If someone is a moser, but thinks he is doing the right thing, do we still kill him?

    aries:

I don’t have good numbers on molesting. I’ll make numbers up.

What if 60% if molested became molesters? Would you say it is all bad choices?

If it’s 20%, isn’t it at least a strong contributing factor?

(Further imagining that the population at large has a say, 5% rate.)

Ok, Let’s say you are correct in this instance. Tell me, at what point would you say that the blame is mitigated.

If you say never, we have nothing to talk about. If you say any number, now we’re just negotiating.

Do you have any idea how much more money our communities would have to support our institutions if we had an Ayn Rand tax policy?

I’m betting we as a community put in a lot more than we take out.

The Torah tells us not to be greedy or narrow minded.

How does one know if one is narrow minded? How do you know you are not narrow minded? How much real thought did you give to the responses on this thread? When you started the thread, were you looking to convince us or looking for answers?

If you were really looking for answers, would you tie your questions to an election issue the day before the election? You want to talk about something, ask one question at a time,in a few days, and we can talk about it. Maybe you’ll convince me.

Usually ignore them. It’s not worth getting in a road rage incident, or having them follow you home and slash your tires.

I don’t mind that you are appalled at me. I assume it is because your teacher yelled at you in third grade.

    🙂

But really, I do think so. How do you know I’m wrong? Does it make sense that I’m wrong? Isn’t the difference between the murderer and the president where and how they grew up? It bothers me to think that also, but isn’t it true?

I don’t think I am promoting acting any differently than you are promoting. I don’t think we quite agree on their level of culpability, but I hope you’re at least willing to move past the “there are no excuses at all” mantra of some.

Now let’s find something else to bicker about. Like what to eat at Carlos and Gabby’s. I’d like to warn everyone that the one in Queens in under the Queens Vaad, so if you only eat the CRC from Brooklyn, I don’t know what you will do.

    squeak:

    A. More of my comments are serious than some think.

    B. Fine, maybe I’m going to far, but I really think there should be a greater understanding. We can only blame bad choices so far. At a certain point, it is disingenuous to blame everything on bad choices.

I don’t think I am wrong in asserting that among the “risk factors” for molesting, having been molested is higher than being a rasha.

I don’t ask you to fully excuse molesters, certainly their choices play a large part. I do ask that we have a certain understanding in our criticism.

I perceive that societies feel a need to blame those who harm us. We don’t want to be told that killers and thieves are merely doing what they were programmed to do. All the evidence in the world is not enough to convince us that the real difference between the guy on death row and the president is that one grew up on the south side of Chicago, and one grew up in Hawaii; not their character.

If we were to find out that Hitler was really suffering from a mental illness which was genetic and uncontrollable, and he is not in Hell, how would you accept that? Why? Do you need to blame a person? Why can’t we just trace things back to G-d only?

If you found out that the most horrible molester in our community was really not very able to choose and was not held very accountable in heaven, would that bother you? If it would, is your condemnation really a product of true belief or of what you want to think?

    Who goes to Florida?

Florida has a good airport though, it connects to the Caribbean destinations.

I went to Belize. It was great. We stayed on Caye Caulker. Our “hotel” cost 12.50 a night, and slept 3.

    Double class sizes.

The frum community cannot afford 15-20 kids in a class. We need 30-35.

Half the teachers won’t be able to handle it. Luckily, we will only need the other half.

Sorry, I haven’t been online. What is absurd is that you are not recognizing something as being a mitigating factor, and largely, an excuse, despite overwhelming evidence.

The fact of the matter is that if you were a man(are you?) and had been molested, you would very likely be a molester now. So when you hear about a molestation, you should cry for the child, and you should be angry at society for not doing more to stop it. But then, you should cry for the molester, and say, “there, but for the grace of G-d, go I”.

While your position seems reasonable, the truth is that moderates do not win. 2008 was a race between a moderate and a far left candidate; Obama won handily.

I imagine the reason is that moderates are not able to engender emotions and so cannot create movements.

I personally think moderates are dumb and simplistic. I am conservative, but I can see how someone would have different values than I have. Moderates seem to have no values, or no idea how their values translate into specific actions.

Wow! Sick monsters!

Did you all know that, by and large, molesters were molested themselves and that is why they do it. They are sick, but monsters?

Unless it is just coincidence that the monsters are the ones who got molested as kids.

Ok, I’m pretty sure you can take both advil and tylenol at the same time, the full dose of each. So you may want to try that.

That said, be very careful not to overdose on tylenol, or any acetaminophen product. I think you can go somewhat over the dose, but anything more can cause liver damage even the first time.

“It is moral for innocents to be killed.”

I call that murder.

And you’d likely be a lot less smug if it were a family member who had been wrongfully convicted.

You should not call that murder. Murder in common law is an unlawful killing with malice aforethought. A killing sanctioned by the court is a lawful killing.

I would be less smug if my, say, wife, was wrongfully convicted. But I would be wrong. Not wrong to be upset, but wrong to think that it was immoral or murder.

Come now, do you consider every unfortunate result of a proper policy to be criminal? Would you indict the Canadian parliament on murder charges if someone’s medical care is delayed and he dies?
