Even assuming she is not telling you to break halacha, it is still highly questionable if there is kibud eim where the issue does not affect her.

Charles M Byner (D) was a US senator for IL from 1956-1988.
He is considered the worst senator in US history, and is infamously known for throwing food from the capitol cafeteria on the speaker’s podium to protest rising food prices.
He was defeated by Dick Durbin in the 1988 primary, after a fierce race which saw Byner launching attack ads which portrayed Durbin as a child eating whale.
He is running for mayor this year and is considered to be the frontrunner.

That is one reason.
I was more thinking along the lines of harassing you, lying to you, etc.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantRB:
I would say that feeling anger is a manifestation of kaas. Of course, not letting it out is a good thing, and helps to abate it.
I should mention here that I don’t really think bad middos exist today. I think it is really all emotional issues.
Ex. Nobody has gaava. To have gaava, you first need a health self esteem. Everyone who I know who manifests gaava has a terrible self esteem, and is just manifesting that.

popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhat are you saying? That all character traits have a proper usage? That is true with the exception of gaava, (see orchos tzadikim shaar hagaava. ????? ??? ????? ??? ??? ????) http://hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=42062&st=&pgnum=13&hilite=
I don’t think that negates anything I said.
February 22, 2011 6:06 pm at 6:06 pm in reply to: Mod Orth Machmir Shidduchim and Shadchanus #743490popa_bar_abbaParticipantIs that what you would do to reward your parents’ Shadchan for being a Shituf with Hashem in bringing you into the world?
That is a silly thing to say. You have no idea what I think about my parents being put together.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantRB: Yes, I did write that intentionally.
“Bad” middos are character traits which need improvement, and improving them is our life’s work.
For example, people are born with different proclivities to anger. Some people anger easily, and some less easily. Our goal is to improve ourselves so we will anger less easily and be consoled more easily. We do this by realizing that what happens to us is from Hashem.
The same is true for jealousy. People are born with different tendencies towards being jealous, and our work is to make ourselves less likely to be jealous by realizing that what we own is from Hashem.
So I wouldn’t say yelling at someone is a bad middah. The bad midda is kaas. You yell at people when your are feeling kaas.
We are probably not disagreeing on anything more than semantics, but I wanted to write this anyway.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantPopa thinks it comes from bad middos.
But look, as things go, it is better to yell at your chavrusah than at your wife, so…

popa_bar_abbaParticipantIts not. They don’t have near 50 full time. I am talking about a yeshiva gedolah- post high school.

February 21, 2011 9:45 pm at 9:45 pm in reply to: Women & Girls Out There: I Really, Really Need Your Help!!!! #747682popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhy am I interested? It’s fascinating.
I think what I am finding so interesting is that you are pretending that the issue is that you found a great outfit, or you had a great ourfit, etc.; as if the issue is that you want this particular outfit and it is not replaceable.
The issue really is that you have a y”h to dress specifically in a non tznius manner.
There is nothing wrong with that feeling; it is natural and intended by G-d. It is one of women’s nisyonos in this world.
Maybe the better approach is to recognize the real issue?
February 21, 2011 9:34 pm at 9:34 pm in reply to: Women & Girls Out There: I Really, Really Need Your Help!!!! #747677popa_bar_abbaParticipantSo the issue here is money? That you don’t want to throw out old outfits and buy new ones?
This shouldn’t be a big problem, since after you are 16 or so you won’t be getting taller anymore.

But, I have heard that girls are more likely to be chronic “dumpers”.

popa_bar_abbaParticipantI took my kids to a cockfight once.
It was ridiculous. Why should I pay $8 dollars for a beer while watching a bunch of chickens pecking at each other when I can drink at home for much cheaper?
My kids liked it, but they would be just as happy eating the same peanuts in the backyard.
February 21, 2011 7:05 pm at 7:05 pm in reply to: Guys-things that a girl does or says on a date that makes you lose interest #743591popa_bar_abbaParticipantFirstly, the girls end it far more than 50% of the time.
But more important, there are common factors in why a guy might stop dating someone, but nothing which can be reduced to checklists.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantam I playing wrong?
Do you need your first word to be related to the last word, or just any word to be related to any word in the last post?
popa_bar_abbaParticipant?? ???? ??? ??? ?? ???? ????
popa_bar_abbaParticipantPopa says it is all about context.
If you are dating a guy from Lakewood, your principal question is whether you want to date a guy from lakewood- not the fact that he wears white shirts. Of course he wears white shirts, he is from lakewood.
If you are dating a guy from YU, your question is whether you want a guy from YU.
I really don’t see how the shirt color issue could ever come up. You aren’t going to find a guy in lakewood wearing colored shirts, and you shouldn’t fool yourself into thinking that a guy from YU is not YU because he wears white shirts.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantYes, I think WITS is the largest yeshiva in America west of the Delaware river (measured by number of students learning full time; 50-60)
February 21, 2011 5:33 pm at 5:33 pm in reply to: Guys-things that a girl does or says on a date that makes you lose interest #743589popa_bar_abbaParticipantThat is not the question of this thread. The question of this thread asks for lists of things which make guys say no.
Most guys don’t have such a list.
If you want to know what balance of things guys look for, there have been multiple threads about that.
February 21, 2011 3:23 pm at 3:23 pm in reply to: Guys-things that a girl does or says on a date that makes you lose interest #743585popa_bar_abbaParticipantNot too many guys commenting.
Guys are more judicious. We don’t make big decisions based on one thing.

So I figured to give a differing opinion. I chose women’s readings because I figured people might think I was serious.
