Well, since we aren’t going to quote any real statistics here…this thread is pretty pointless.

Agreed. I might add that it would be pointless even if we had real statistics.

Re: Posters who are pointing out that many women put on weight after kids anyway.

Most guys I know think that is a reason to insist on an even lighter girl than they imagine they can be attracted to. They think that if attraction is borderline now, then after kids they will not be able to handle it.

So this argument usually backfires. Don’t tell it to a guy who is concerned about a girl he is dating.

That does not sound too good. I think she better speak with someone (a therapist) fast. Especially if her wedding is scheduled for the week after pesach.

    Ooof.

This wasn’t an insult though, he was posting private information about me on a public forum. It wasn’t secret or negative stuff, it was just where I live, what I do, my family, all kinds of stuff that you don’t necessarily want to be public on a forum you chat on.

My friend’s sister was on a date, and the guy parked in an illegal spot.

The guy was being a real jerk, so she went to the “bathroom”, and flagged down a cop, showed him the car, and said it was her boyfriend’s who had just dumped her.

The cop had it towed to Islip.

The dictionary provides 7 definitions of romance, all of which I quoted above (i.e. medieval tale, imaginary characters, something that lacks basis in fact, heroic era, adventure, etc.) Which definition of the term that the dictionary defines it are you referring to?

I was referring to definition 5, the Romance languages.

I think it is very important for a husband and wife to be able to communicate in Italian, since that is the language of food.

    How about this?

In every society, there have always been traits which were considered attractive.

In China, women were supposed to have small feet, so they used to bind their feet so they wouldn’t grow.

In the Kayan culture, women are supposed to put coils on their neck so it stretches.

In the scheme of things, an infatuation with being a normal weight, is a lot better than those alternatives.

(Popa: you don’t know what normal is. Women are being coerced into being waaaaaaay below normal weight. Normal weight is 180 lbs.)

Now you don’t even need to respond.

No, David99, that is not what I think.

Go back and re-read all your posts. You do not argue nicely.

Look at the contrast between your language, (ex. “you are simply incorrect”, “you have no idea what you’re talking about”, etc.), and other posters on this forum.

It doesn’t even serve your purpose, because it makes people defensive, and then they will never agree.

Well, thank you Avram in MD for agreeing with me at least in part.

Different communities have different notions of dating, and certainly communities where dating is 2 nights, do not have a concept of developing a romantic relationship before engagement.

But, communities where dating is over a month, are certainly attempting to establish romance during the dating process.

romance seems like such a goyish concept.

    That is very unfortunate.

It is not a goyish concept. It is a human concept.

Romance is the most important part of the spousal relationship. Dating is not an interview for a job.

I think you should ask someone you respect about this.

if a guy spends only $10.00 on every date

That is not really realistic. The guy has to drive from somewhere, and even if it is only queens to brooklyn to manhattan to brooklyn to queens, he is using a few gallons.

If he is coming from Lakewood, then figure half a tank of gas, 15-20 in tolls, and probably a rental car.

A girl at 5’8” 180, although that may sound a little overweight if in shape and toned, thats what a woman is supposed to look like!

Sac: Are you sure about that?

According to some online weight calculator I found, her ideal weight would be 140.

I am 5’7″, and I weigh less than 140, and I do not look “skinny”, and I have a broader build than most women.

    A. You people have no idea what drinks cost. If you go to a random hotel lobby in Manhattan, and order a diet sprite and a seltzer, your bill is about $10-15.

    B. There is absolutely no reason to spend $10 going back and forth in the Battery tunnel, when there are 2 free bridges 5 minutes away.

    C. Parking costs $30. Cut the guy some slack if he looks for parking for 5 minutes. (I once spent 5 minutes trying to fit into a spot, and then gave up. I was pushing both cars at the same time. I bet a few more minutes and I could have gotten it.)

    D. If a guy takes you for dinner, it is a mighty expensive date. The costs and dates add up fast. I once spent approximately $1500 dating one person, and that did not include any flights, but did include a bit of driving. (19 dates- average $78).

“Anyone may arrange his affairs so that his taxes shall be as low as possible; he is not bound to choose that pattern which best pays the treasury. There is not even a patriotic duty to increase one’s taxes. Over and over again the Courts have said that there is nothing sinister in so arranging affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. Everyone does it, rich and poor alike and all do right, for nobody owes any public duty to pay more than the law demands.”

If teachers are able to bargain for this time, it means the market has given it to them.

Juries are necessary. Even if you just sit around, the fact that the court can assemble a jury on short notice helps move the justice system along. Many defendants (or their lawyers) will seek to plea bargain rather than face a trial by jury.

But I am opposed to the plea bargain system, and I don’t want to contribute to the process which facilitates it.

Prosecutors use the plea bargain system to force defendants to forgo trial by threatening to ask for maximum punishments, which are far out of proportion to the crime.

Lawmakers make sentencing guidelines with built in allowance for prosecutors to make leniency for plea bargains, which means that the ones who go to trial are being punished excessively.

We are basically punishing them for insisting on their right to trial.

I want no part in that.
