Many people have felt this way before. They generally fall into two groups: (i) those who got married, and (ii) those who wouldn’t go to therapy.
December 17, 2015 2:17 pm at 2:17 pm in reply to: The differences between Yeshivish and Chasidish marriages #1118142popa_bar_abbaParticipantSo why do you think beshows wouldn’t work for us?
I think it would work just as well for us as it does for them.
December 17, 2015 5:21 am at 5:21 am in reply to: Are chassidic women allowed to fly planes? #1117799popa_bar_abbaParticipantI think it would be much more common for a specific woman pilot to be paired with a male pilot than for a specific male pilot to be paired with a woman pilot. In fact a woman pilot is more likely to be paired with a male pilot than with another woman pilot, whereas a male pilot is more likely to be paired with another male pilot than with a woman pilot.
But over a career it’s a statistical certainty for either?
December 17, 2015 5:01 am at 5:01 am in reply to: Are chassidic women allowed to fly planes? #1117797popa_bar_abbaParticipantIt would be a problem for any frum woman or girl, because you’re secluded in the front with another pilot for hours on end. Unless she can always secure the company of another female, I think it wouldn’t be wise. I don’t know Halacha, just common sense.
That would apply to men also, who would be in a cockpit with a woman sometimes.
But you didn’t think of that.
You only think of this stuff for other people.
December 17, 2015 4:21 am at 4:21 am in reply to: The differences between Yeshivish and Chasidish marriages #1118137popa_bar_abbaParticipantNo. But not because we have different relationships.
December 17, 2015 3:34 am at 3:34 am in reply to: The differences between Yeshivish and Chasidish marriages #1118135popa_bar_abbaParticipantah, so DY disagrees with me.
December 17, 2015 12:23 am at 12:23 am in reply to: The differences between Yeshivish and Chasidish marriages #1118130popa_bar_abbaParticipantJoseph: DY’s quote was a different context.
DY–do you think that difference would lead to beshows vs dating?
popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhy should they? Instead, they tow your car AND get to do your work.
December 16, 2015 10:32 pm at 10:32 pm in reply to: The differences between Yeshivish and Chasidish marriages #1118116popa_bar_abbaParticipantI’ve never heard this theory before.
Maybe today is strawman day.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantPick it up?
popa_bar_abbaParticipantlol we’re still on this
popa_bar_abbaParticipantSee a therapist, and tell them exactly that. You are correct that it isn’t healthy to need the “perfect” one, although it is common.
Do you have the same issue when you shop for clothes–do you need to see every outfit in the store, and every other store nearby, before you buy one?
December 15, 2015 5:45 pm at 5:45 pm in reply to: Buying returned food equipment or utensils #1116456popa_bar_abbaParticipantWho says the halacha definition of a pig goes by pig DNA?
December 15, 2015 4:46 am at 4:46 am in reply to: Buying returned food equipment or utensils #1116447popa_bar_abbaParticipantPig saliva is nosein ta’am lifgam.
Not to a pig it isn’t.
December 15, 2015 4:12 am at 4:12 am in reply to: Buying returned food equipment or utensils #1116444popa_bar_abbaParticipantHow can you eat anything, why don’t you have to assume you’re a pig, and your saliva is yotzei min hatamei?
popa_bar_abbaParticipantWell done rebyidd
popa_bar_abbaParticipantYou can’t be frum and a feminist.
I know some people who are frum and call themselves feminist, but I have spoken with them and they are not feminist. Some are not frum.
December 11, 2015 3:36 am at 3:36 am in reply to: Parents visiting married children uninvited at night??? #1117024popa_bar_abbaParticipantIt’s fine unless the kids don’t like it.
Either tell them you don’t like it, or learn to live with it. It’s totally normal, so there’s no reason for them to think you don’t like it.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantMy insurance says they would cover me, but that they would limit the coverage to less than my usual limits.
December 10, 2015 2:12 pm at 2:12 pm in reply to: Invited to the Wedding Feast, not the Ceremony-would you be offended? #1143001popa_bar_abbaParticipantIt’s much more tax efficient to let them into the business.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantIf you’re not the customer, then you’re the product.
December 7, 2015 8:02 pm at 8:02 pm in reply to: Bais yaakov cookbook doesn't have recipe for latkes? #1115020popa_bar_abbaParticipantI used the spice and spirit recipe last night. It was excellent. But make sure you put lots of oil in the pan–don’t just spray with cooking spray.
Even better, use butter. Or shmaltz.
December 6, 2015 2:15 pm at 2:15 pm in reply to: When will the chareidim join the army like the Chashmonaim? #1115238popa_bar_abbaParticipantUbiquitin: yes, that is what I was responding to.
And in the real story the father would respond that chareidim will carry weapons and join an army when its time to fight against the chilonim.
December 6, 2015 2:45 am at 2:45 am in reply to: When will the chareidim join the army like the Chashmonaim? #1115228popa_bar_abbaParticipantI thought they fought both.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantPopa making this tonight.
popa_bar_abbaParticipant1000 from each side. I don’t agree that it ever went up past that.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI’m not sure what is so hard for you all to understand. He said it 16 times.
December 3, 2015 4:36 am at 4:36 am in reply to: Invited to the Wedding Feast, not the Ceremony-would you be offended? #1142970popa_bar_abbaParticipantIf I was the chosson, I would object to having a wedding that essentially lasted 12 hours.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI’m a retired trauma surgeon.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantIt isn’t fair for you to ask someone at their medical degree is, when you’ve refused to tell us your degree for the past 5 years, and just insisted you are in a “medical field”
popa_bar_abbaParticipantCool.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI had been saying for years that he was going to be released on November 21, 2015, and I got massive pushback, most of it unbelievably nasty, from people claiming to be Pollard supporters.
Affiliate link?
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI don’t believe you. Proof, or you’re making it up.
In any two car crash, there’s a high likelihood that one car caused it, which could imply an underlying medical cause.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantIn many crashes you can tell who is at fault. So is a rear end collission like a 1 car collission? Or if one car veered into oncoming traffic?
popa_bar_abbaParticipantThat doesn’t make any sense. There is no more higher probability of driver impairment causing a 1 car crash than a 2 car crash, and even if it is higher, I don’t believe it would be so significantly higher as to make checking for impairment protocol in one and not the other.
You’re making this up. Give us proof.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantYou should assume possible driver impairment as the cause of a 1 car accident.
Heart attack, stroke, drug use, drunk, suicide, etc.
I thought of that, but doesn’t driver impairment also cause 2-car crashes?
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI knew the answer the whole time.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhy? Did you once tip over his apple cart and now want to apologize?
November 28, 2015 11:46 pm at 11:46 pm in reply to: Legal Studies Student – Aspiring for Lawyer #1113879popa_bar_abbaParticipantPlenty of non-lawyers work sometimes on motzei shabbos and sunday, and make a lot less than biglaw lawyers do. Did you know last year bonuses for first year associates were 15000? That’s dollars, not doll-hairs. And for second year associates were 25000?
popa_bar_abbaParticipantThere’s a reason nobody carries a fire extinguisher in their car.
If you put it in the trunk, you won’t be able to get it. If you put it in the cabin, it could become a dangerous missile in a crash.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantYou are all idiots.
If the patient is in a safe place, sure you take spinal precautions. But if patient is in a car from a car crash that could blow up, you yank them out of the car fast.
Also, you don’t “assume” spinal injury. Why assume? You can just injure their spine if you need it.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantThere’s no such thing as “multiple personality disorder.” Properly known as disassociative identity disorder.
It has never been observed by anyone who didn’t already believe in it.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI first take the patient out of the car. Then assess whether there are any injuries. If there are none, I quickly advise them that I will pretend there are injured for a cut of the proceeds. When they syay yes, I quickly hit them over the head so they won’t have to pretend.
November 26, 2015 10:58 pm at 10:58 pm in reply to: Legal Studies Student – Aspiring for Lawyer #1113877popa_bar_abbaParticipantThere are very few top tier Wall Street or White Shoe law firms hiring the top 2% of graduates from the top 10 Law schools at 6 figure salaries. This especially goes for frum first year associates who would not slave away and bill thousands of hours because of Shabbos and Yuntif restrictions.
I think you’re exaggerating. At least 70 percent at a top ten school can get a job paying 160000 first year (and far more after that). And closer to 90 percent at a top 6 school. And there are hundreds of frum lawyers at these firms.
November 26, 2015 5:50 pm at 5:50 pm in reply to: Legal Studies Student – Aspiring for Lawyer #1113870popa_bar_abbaParticipantI can get all the first and second year associates I want from good law schools for 45k.
Don’t all law firms pay 160? Plus bonus?
November 25, 2015 7:02 pm at 7:02 pm in reply to: Legal Studies Student – Aspiring for Lawyer #1113863popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhich yeshivos are you interested in? Call them.
November 25, 2015 5:48 pm at 5:48 pm in reply to: Legal Studies Student – Aspiring for Lawyer #1113861popa_bar_abbaParticipantLSAC is going to count all credits earned before you get a 4 year degree as part of your reported GPA.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantAnyone else think its weird that CT lawyer has a 1971 Jaguar XKE 5.3 Liter V12 engine Roadster in Bright Red, and I’m the one posting love threads for my car?
popa_bar_abbaParticipantbeers in america made do require a hechsher because they often add a treif ingredient to make a head.
Which ingredient is that? I’m fairly certain that you are either (i) wrong, or (ii) saying something as fact that is actually a minority opinion.
european brewers never add anything to their beers. its against the law to put in anything besides malt and hops and water.
And yeast. And a bazillion other additivis, like isinglas.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantwon….a seat on the municipal legislative council
Awesome! Can you pass a bill allocating funds to the CR?
