Shulchan Aruch is an insufficient source to demonstrate that it really is an issue???

I didn’t see that in gefen’s question. I saw her curious as to the original sources.

I am surprised that you would write a post about the language on YWN, without mentioning the substantive language problems–like people using the words retard and molester.

    I have free health advice.

If you are using a lancet to draw blood, prick the side of your finger, not the middle where all the nerves are.

If someone else is doing it to you, make them prick the side of your finger. If they don’t, kick them in the shins.

Do you honestly believe that popa’s a girl?

I think I earned that subtitled for my “are women jewish” thread.

Personally, I treat the CR as though I’m having a conversation with people. They say what they say, I say what I say, etc. etc.

I try not to be offensive.

Yes, that is how I treat it. I’m not sure if I agree about the offensive bit. I have to think about whether I am trying to be offensive, or if I just hold that people shouldn’t be getting offended by what I say. Or something else.

Maybe Bar shattya can figure this out for us.

If the Israeli settlers are truly interested in settling in all parts of Eretz Yisroel, even if risking Jewish lives by doing so, why don’t they as well settle in Southern Lebanon — which is as much a part of Eretz Yisroel as Judea and Samaria?

I don’t understand. You say “if they are truly interested…” as if you think there is really a different motivation, which explains why not southern lebanon.

Well, let’s hear the other explanation.

They came again yesterday. (Really, it is a coincidence that it is 3 days to pesach. Really.)

They wouldn’t let me give, because I had given 8 weeks ago today, and yesterday was a day before today.

Not that I would have given anyway. I was just stringing them along. I was gonna let them get halfway done, and then pull the thing out and spray blood from my arm all over the place.

Before the CR was started, a poll was taken as to whether it was a good idea. I voted against. Popa claimed to have done so as well.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I was not involved in the CR for years after it was made. And I was certainly not involved in the decision to make it.

I don’t know why you are lying, and I don’t know why you are leaving, and I care even less.

OK, so the chassam sofer says that. So what?

Nobody is arguing that your practice (and my practice, as it happens) of not doing metzitza b’peh is illegitimate. We’re just saying that other people’s practice of doing metzitza b’peh is legitimate.

There are other opinions besides the chassam sofer. You can’t say an opinion is illegitimate because of the chassam sofer.

I trust that their rabbonim are acting in good faith, and are basing their decisions on the torah. And that’s enough for me.

in reply to: drinking on purim, teaching kids? #1056429
    popa_bar_abba

Can anyone state clearly and sincerely that their drinking on Purim is only to fulfill the mitzvah, and absolutely not to experience the mind-altering effects of alcohol? If it is not leshem mitzvah, I have no doubt that it is antithetical to avodas Hashem, and is the aveiro that Reb Shmuel Kaminetzky described. Purim is not a heter to let loose with shikrus. It is disgraceful to interpret Chazal that way. Chayav inish l’ivsumai is a positive mitzvah, not a dismantling of the prohibitions against shikrus.

I think your question, is your answer. You asset that nobody is able to drink on purim the way you think chazal meant.

Well, chazal must have meant something. So actually, what is possible for people to do, is probably what they meant.

Popa, the first time it was funny (maybe– even that’s debatable). After a while (even only a couple times) it becomes stale.

Can’t you find a new line?

I hold that doing something which was controversially funny again, is funny in its own right. Because I’m referring back to the controversy.

The only difference between “moser” and “molester” is “let”.

Meaning, that if you “let” someone be “moser”, you cause a “molester”.
