    People are not concerned about such minor matters. They are refering to such practices are “Paying off the books” or not charging sales tax for example

    I almost wrote that, but it’s not really true. Obama isn’t a joke, he has many other problems including being a rasha, and hating the country, and having no respect for the rule of law, but I don’t think he is a joke.

    These seminaries must be doing an incredible job. They take a girl who has had 12 years of schooling and 17 years of parental chinuch. And in the short 9 months they have her, they radicalize her. They convince her to abandon all the wonderful values of her schooling and upbringing and instead, marry a kollel guy and live in suffering and poverty.

    Or, the 12 years of schooling and 17 years of parents have done a terrible job.

    yeah, that’s basically what we think of your opinions generally. It doesn’t matter what the French right and left were in the middle ages.     we have often invited couples where my wife is friendly with the mrs. and me with the mr. she shmoozes with her friend about lady things, i drink with my friend and talk sports and we all enjoy a nice shabbos seuda.

    I *support* people saving money and that is why I am calling out Uber. It is preying on people who don’t realize that in many cases an ordinary livery cab or even green or yellow cab is less expensive because they aren’t familiar with NYC.

    Well, above your example was comparing Uber Black to your local car service. That was highly misleading since most people use Uberx which is way cheaper than your local car service.

    I assume when you say “in many cases,” you are again being intentionally misleading, and what you mean to say is that when surge pricing is in effect, it can be cheaper to take a cab. However, this is clearly disclosed before you order the Uber, and in fact you can instead choose to order a regular cab and pay regular cab prices through the Uber app–and can compare the wait times.

    I have no issue with you disliking Uber’s business model, or that they have effectively deregulated a formerly regulated industry. But why can’t you just make your real arguments instead of misleading us?

    It’s the same with every liberal argument. You don’t like Trump so you call him a bigot, but when you’re called on it, you aren’t even willing to post one post backing it up. FWIW, I haven’t been following the Trump news closely, and there’s a decent chance you’d convince me that he is.

    Don’t wish for a frum.landlord as you might be sorry. My in-laws lived in a two family house and the frum landlord would “accidentally” turn then their heat down erev Shabbos and then say he couldn’t raise the heat because it was Shabbos.

    I have a frum landlord. They’re great. They live upstairs.

    Again it depends what the lease says.

    Well, partially.

    Firstly, if the lease says something too landlord-favorable, there is likely a local law that overrides it. Google “tenant rights [name of town].”

    Second, you can’t take the lease language too literally, or it becomes absurd. Suppose it says:

    Right of Entry. The Lessor shall have the right to enter the premises at any time, upon notice, to make all repairs, to inspect the premises, and to show the premises to prospective tenants and purchasers.

    And suppose there is no local tenant law. So that means the landlord can send you an email that he’s going to show the apartment to a string of people for the next month 24/7 and will be staying in your apartment continuously for that time. (Don’t worry, he won’t sit on your couch.)

    Of course not. No court in the world would read the contract that literally, and a contract means only so much as a court would legally enforce. There’s an obvious assumed interpretation that there is a reasonability aspect, and it’s quite reasonable to tell the landlord “I’m eating dinner with my family during that time, can you come a few hours later; my baby is napping during that time; I’m napping during that time; it’s too late at night; you’ve been in here for half an hour already I need you to leave; etc”.

    ALWAYS read a lease before signing one and if you cant understand the legalize , get someone who CAN read it and explain it to you

    Good luck negotiating the terms of a residential lease. Best you can do is probably to just change the terms you don’t like before you sign and hope they don’t notice. BTDT; no idea what a court would do.
