And? I’m not sure why that should affect her.
It affects his ability to hire her or allow her into the office with her hair uncovered. Since it is assur for him to see her hair, he can’t allow her into his office as such.
PeacemakerMemberBut he has no heter to see her hair. It is still assur for him.
PeacemakerMemberOK. And?
There is a conflict then between halacha and secular law (assuming your legal assertion is correct.)
What do you do in such a situation? Break halacha or break secular law, if it comes down to one or the other.
PeacemakerMemberYour tefilos are more likely to be accepted when you daven with a minyan, than if you daven alone.
PeacemakerMemberThe Midrash says Avraham Avinu viewing the stars from the back of the rakia.
Chazal, and certainly the rishonim, recognize that the sun lights the moon.
PeacemakerMemberDo you even know what the rakia is?
PeacemakerMemberskiaddict’s story only indicated the protagonist calmed down an irate Arab who was railing against Jews. He wasn’t under assault, and didn’t save his own skin. Their goal, however much you disagree with their methodologies, is to save Torah Jews’ lives, not necessarily their own.
PeacemakerMemberThey themselves live in Israel, so that characterization cannot be correct.
PeacemakerMemberSeriously, why do you think NK does it, if not to make a difference?
Their own argument is that it ingratiates “Torah-True Judaism” with the Arab world, lessening their hatred of us. And can possibly save Jewish lives down the line. Obviously based on your above comments you disagree.
It strengthens the arguments against us, since they can say that even some of our people are against us.
And, again, how does that (assistance from NK) equal Jewish deaths?
PeacemakerMemberLet me rephrase: How does bad PR generated by NK = Jewish deaths?
PeacemakerMemberHow does bad PR = Jewish deaths?
PeacemakerMemberHow do they “aid and abet our enemies in murdering us”? I understand they yank people’s chains, but that is quite over the top hyperbole.

PeacemakerMemberI understand most of the comments are focusing on the Times, yet my OP pointed out this issue exists (and is indeed prevalent) on this very site over here as well. As on ALL news sources.
PeacemakerMemberWhat’s chanky?
PeacemakerMemberSilly question, kapusta. Why did you start it, if you are thanking them for getting rid of it? (I’m just scratching my head, LOL.)

PeacemakerMemberThey live in Eretz Yisroel (since the 1800’s). They’re not against it, they’re against the State.
PeacemakerMembermetrodriver: No. He is from the offshoot that the original group (R. Amram Blau zt’l) had nothing to do with. The original group (which still stands) was formed in the early 1900’s. NK was a split-off from Agudas Yisroel.

PeacemakerMemberAnd the Country Yossi children’s radio show Tuesday nights.
PeacemakerMemberThe original NK are actually Talmidei HaGRA (i.e. Litvish) that came to Eretz Yisroel in the 1800’s. The group that gets all the attention is an offshoot of some of the original members relatives, but aren’t the original group.
PeacemakerMemberAnd considering the practical impossibility of doing that?

September 20, 2011 4:24 pm at 4:24 pm in reply to: Where There’s A Will, There’s A Violation What The Torah Wants? #812371PeacemakerMemberIs there any support for DDD, instead of halacha, in the Rishonim? I never saw any.
September 20, 2011 4:11 pm at 4:11 pm in reply to: Where There’s A Will, There’s A Violation What The Torah Wants? #812369PeacemakerMemberSam: If they agree beforehand, sure. That would be in accordance with S”A. But in the absence of a prior agreement, unless it is common business custom to follow a certain rule (in which case it again would be in accordance with S”A), I don’t see how DDD can take precedence over Shulchan Aruch. And issues between two private parties outside of a business setting would surely follow S”A.
As far as Yerusha, what argument could anyone advance as to why halacha would be set aside? And this machlokes you reference, is it between Rishonim? Achronim? Others?
PeacemakerMemberM80: Why don’t you discuss other issues than that?
September 20, 2011 3:42 pm at 3:42 pm in reply to: Where There’s A Will, There’s A Violation What The Torah Wants? #812366PeacemakerMemberSam: In that case you can throw most of Choshen Mishpat out the window, since secular law addresses almost all monetary issues (differently).
Even without names, what is the machlokes you speak of? What do they say?

Regarding the machlokes you mentioned, a machlokes between whom? And who holds what (halacha l’maisa)?
PeacemakerMemberNo.
