The story is told about a number of gedolim of yesteryear that they would put a matzoh ball in their windows throughout pesach to make a statement about what they hold of gebrochts

As an added benefit a trip to the Beis Medrash is generally free (unless you get solicited for a donation)

According to HaLeiVi’s logic it comes out that we’re not trying to mimick the confusion, rather we are mimicking the rushing and mimayla the confusion is also mimicked.

Trust me the kids never get cranky on a trip to the Bais Medrash (and the Bais medrash doesn’t get cranky either so it solves both of your problems chickpea)

“they had to get a “get” (no pun intended).”

If you ever learn maseches gittin make sure your chavrusa knows in advance that he’ll be getting at least 5 no pun intendeds per day

“It is a minhag because when they went out of mitzrayim,, they were rushed and confused. So we want to mimic the confusion.”

I guess that’s also the source of the inyan to rush through the seder.

But think you might be misquoting him a little. Because I highly doubt that there was such a thing as a bedikas chometz kit in Europe. What he probably meant is that they give out wooden spoons as a zecher to those in Europe who would get new wooden spoons evey pesach.

Klach: I don’t think Rasha Gamur was trying to bash orthodox Jews. I think he was merely trying to ascertain what the metzius is.

I think the debate stems from the verse in Leviticus 22:14 which states “Thou shalt not eat gebrochts on Passover”

Since when is there a chiyuv to go on a trip on chol hamoed. i was always under the impression that the purpose of chol hamoed was so that people who don’t normally have the oppurtunity to learn during the course of their regular workweek would have some extra time to pursue d’veykus with Hashem.

Rasha: correct me if i’m wrong but it sounds as if you are implying that there is something wrong with making every religious custom into an excuse to get drunk. If that is indeed what you meant, would you care to explain why it is wrong?
