PatriMember
Adolph Hitler, too, was a great orator. Did you ever see a video him speaking — and how he would get the crowd roaring? He too was very telegenic.
PatriMemberI don’t know of it technically qualifies as chukas hagoyim, but it certainly is a very unjewish thing to do. Quite ekeldik.
PatriMemberActually, Oberlanders usually do get lumped together with Chasidim while Yekkes usually get lumped together with Litvaks/Misnagdim. Regardless, my above point about the comparitive equivelence of government aid between chasidim and non-chasidic chareidim holds true whether or not you include Oberlanders and/or Yekkes in the sample size. Both Oberlanders and Yekkes are a very small minority of the Frum Ashkenazic population.
January 9, 2013 3:48 pm at 3:48 pm in reply to: Inadvertently taking extra merchandise – halacha #918191PatriMemberAn attack on Bris Milah is a far greater threat than some getchke visiting the Kosel.
PatriMemberYes, some people have certain genes that make them more prone to be a serial killer, homosexual or adulteror. Those people must overcome those tendencies. Otherwise they are reshoyim gemurim. We must not make public support “clubs” that do nothing more than legitimize these sickos.
PatriMemberanon1m0us: Please read the gemora. It clearly demonstrates that something as minor as the color of a shoelace can define Jewish clothing. And as the gemora says, the Jewish clothing were for reasons of Jewish modesty as well as for us to consciously choose to seperate ourselves from the Gentiles.
Yes, there is disticntive Jewish clothing and dress code today as there has been throughout Jewish history from the time we were in Eretz Mitzrayim.
PatriMemberYou have statistics? No you don’t. You merely have preconceived notions that you are projecting on others. Other Chareidim (non-Chasidim) are on government assistance at the same rate. Furthermore, no other frum groups have established the numerous chesed organizations (not to mention mosdos) as the Chasidim have at great financial cost. That money is not coming from the government.
PatriMemberChasidim are no poorer than other Chareidim. And in fact may be overall richer. Look at the great mosdos, yeshivos, tzedakah organizations and untold other chesed organizations they built. Witness who runs the diamond districts in New York and Europe. Witness B&H Photo, etc.
PatriMemberGershomi:
1) How old was she when converting – under 12 or over 12 years old?
2) Was she converted through an Orthodox Rabbi? If so, which Rabbi?
If it was a kosher Orthodox conversion where she intended to keep all the Mitzvos (and from the vague information you provided it sounds probable it was), then once she became a Jew at her young age she will always remain a Jew.
PatriMemberThe YU derech includes such things as what was published in YU’s Beacon discussing having znus.
January 8, 2013 4:00 pm at 4:00 pm in reply to: Insanity!! Netura Karta Sicko Forces His Boys Into Frum Girls School in Antwerp #928833PatriMember“Creamed”? Whatever that means. He is seeking attention. And what you might consider embarrassing for him on the radio interview, he doesn’t and actually considers he embarrassed the host.
mi pueblo: Someone already tried that. But what happened instead was that the guy who tried it ended up in a cast for a few months. Wasnt a good idea.
I don’t understand why the school is being so stubborn and doesn’t let the boys into their boys school instead of giving everyone the problem of a girls school having a couple of boys roaming around every day.
PatriMemberCuriosity: You completely missed the point, either intentionally or unintentionally, of that gemora in Sanhedrin. The gemora clearly demonstrates that yidden have a unique yiddishe way of dress. And that unique yiddishe style of dress can go down to being as specific as a shoelace color. Now the gemora then goes on to say that during a shas shmad if the goyim threaten your life if you don’t stop wearing “the Jewish shoelace color” then you are obligated to be prepared to die rather than change from wearing the Jewish shoelace color. But that doesn’t change the gemora’s starting basis that even during normal times (with no shas shmad) there can be such a thing as a specific shoelace color that is “The Jewish” form of dress.
Oh, and great point you made associating a nazir with a chup.
PatriMemberBeing a soldier in the Army requires a uniform.
The uniform includes the haircut.
So does being a soldier in Hashem’s Army.
January 6, 2013 5:29 pm at 5:29 pm in reply to: Inadvertently taking extra merchandise – halacha #918127PatriMemberNo. Since they are ovdei a”z you need not take any corrective action. (In fact, it may even be halachicly assur to take corrective action since it benefits ovdei a”z.) This is based on the presumption there is no likelihood of them realizing their error.
PatriMemberI work in the human resources department of a large national firm with all types of employees including a number of Touro grads. And many of the Touro alumni are earning significantly higher salaries than some of our Ivy Leaguers.
PatriMemberUh, what is the difference between a “message” of a story and a “lesson” of a story? The Rebbe was specific what the lesson and message of this story is.
June 17, 2012 3:41 pm at 3:41 pm in reply to: car hit by truck on Gowanus Exp…driver lies…can i sue? #879940PatriMemberNo. The insurance companies (yours and his) sue each other (or settle) to determine fault. Everyone expects that one or both people in an accident may have lied to the police officer. It’s very common to lie.
PatriMemberSam: The Mishna Brura and others say to wear a double head covering.
The mashgiach of a prominent yeshiva told my brother that the only reason he wears his hat at the shabbos meal is that his kids do.
He was kidding around. He wouldn’t just blindly follow his children’s narishkeit. He wear it because its the right thing to do.
PatriMemberYou’ll almost surely end up for settling for much less than you have know, if you divorce and remarry post-divorce.
PatriMemberKFB, for parnassa there is sometimes a heter to go somewhere otherwise permitted. Here there is no such heter.
PatriMemberMP, not only is it correct, but it is precisely when a wife eschews her husbands opinions that often a relationship turns bitter and abusive.
June 3, 2012 4:11 pm at 4:11 pm in reply to: MUST READ- Real Solutions to the Internet Challenge #922526PatriMemberIs this the booklet they intend to distribute at the Flatbush Internet Asifa?
Rav Solomon shlita will be there. So everyone can confirm he supports the psak announced at the main Asifa.
PatriMemberTwo Jews, three opinions.
In any event, a good wife accepts her husbands opinions.
PatriMemberI’d sooner go to the Carribean Day Parade than this.
PatriMemberThere are no more misnagdim. The Gra’s biggest talmidim today learn Torah with Chasidim, join Chasidish Rabbonim on issues for the klal, consider them gedolim and marry Chasidim. And have been doing so for over a hundred years.
PatriMemberCare to defend?
Indefensible.
PatriMemberWhat’s the difference between a Sefardi and a Mizrachi?
PatriMemberI have the same problem. No talis bag and no eruv (so can’t put in pocket.) The garbage is near the hallway and I would have to trip over 25 people in middle of davening to get there. (Some of them in middle of shemone esrei sometimes.)
So I put it on the table near the guy sitting across from me. Just kidding. I put it near me.
PatriMember147: No he did not. He pointed out the excuses some attendees used to ignore the message of gedolei yisroel.
PatriMemberThe vast majority of frum American Yidden live in the NY Metro Area.
PatriMemberYasher Koach Loyal Jew.
PatriMemberrabbiofberlin: You are incorrectly comparing the UTJ and Shas to the Chilonim. The OP is comparing them to MO/DL. You should only be looking at the DL-only parties. You also need to consider the fact that a lot of Chareidim in EY do not vote al pi shitta (i.e. Eidah, Brisk, etc.)
PatriMemberAny amount is a sufficient tip. No one should complain.

PatriMemberPinsk is an offshoot from Stolin.
PatriMemberI would be very surprised if chareidim don’t represent, at least, well into the 80%’s.

PatriMemberIs popa’s wife a rebbetzin (or will she be)?
PatriMemberYou can negotiate a better price with anyone, including local retailers or phone sales (including phoning or chatting an online retailer). Just be prepared to walk away from the deal, if necessary.
PatriMemberwriter – The reason it is all his is because the husband is legally responsible to support his wife. See Rambam.
PatriMemberI thought I saw another thread where Sam2 recently said it has a legit basis.
PatriMemberBoys have a looot more ground to cover and what to learn. Shas, etc. It takes time.
April 22, 2012 4:23 pm at 4:23 pm in reply to: What to research b4 going on the shidduch date??? #869751PatriMemberResearch her middos, yichus, eidelkeit, her family (is her father a talmid chochom, are they all frum and ehrlich).
PatriMemberSam, like squeak said. You rwally think all the gedolom of the previous doros were blind to what you see? You really think some Achron invented this or worse copied it, and other Achronim blindly followed it?
PatriMemberSam: Other poskim disagree with Rav Moshe.
PatriMemberThat’s no mistake, zahavasdad. It is intentional, since it makes the Jewish calendar be able to be calculated on a regular human not overly complicated cycle.
PatriMemberYichusdik,
Stop calling the words quoted verbatim here from the Seforim Hakedoshim as being my position. It isnt. It is the Seforim Hakedoshim’s position. Not mine. I take and took no position other than to accept what the quoted Seforim state. Your disagreement is with the Seforim, not with me. Even if you falsely wrap your 20th century beliefs around general statements by Achronim.
PatriMemberyichusdik,
Forget about reconciling facts, evidence, experience, or knowledge with my or others here assertions. Simply acknowledge, accept, embrace and love the sweet and heilige direct verter of the Seforim Hakedoshim as simply stated in the Medrash Talpiot, Nitai Gavriel, Shulchan HaEzer and Chesed L’Avraham and others. And IY”H when you get married, take advice from the Seforim Hakedoshim. It has helped countless Yidden over many many generations and centuries.
Chachmei Yisroel, with siyata dshmaya from the Aibershter, never let us down.
PatriMemberIt depends if the girl in question is worthy of a Brisker Talmid. Is she a bas talmid chochom? A baalas middos? A baalas chesed? All of the above?
