What is it like to be in a relationship with somebody who suffers from anxiety?
outoftownerMemberI know someone who went to yale and brisk 🙂
Why choose one 😉
outoftownerMemberThe American Heart Association (I believe) made an announcement that CPR is just as effective without breaths, and just with compressions. That means- if you wouldn’t do mouth to mouth on a person. Do compressions- it still can keep the heart going, and it could save someone’s life. Those trained still give breaths. But do compressions!

outoftownerMemberoutoftownerMember“totally, i just didnt expect him to look the way he does! everyone talks so much abt him, so when i finally did see him i was quite shocked!”
“yups, same here! but I guess that comes to show us that the outside doesn’t make a person!”
Isn’t it a good rule of thumb not to talk about people…..?

outoftownerMemberTo care for a stroke victim, all you have to do is think “FAST”
F-ace- weakness on one side (ask victim to smile to look for drooping)
A-rm- weakness or numbness in one arm (ask victim to raise both arms)
S-peech- slurred speech or trouble speaking (ask victim to say a simple sentence)
T-ime- time to summon EMS if any of these signs or symptoms are seen (note the time symptoms began)

outoftownerMemberI have a hard time believing that noone has had a funny date in the past 2 weeks…
outoftownerMemberAdding to what Mazca said,
I heard a mashal this shabbos… An old man had one last request before he died… He was on his deathbed, and his one last request was to be buried with his socks… He asked his family members to please find a heter for him to be buried with his socks.. They didn’t really know what to say, because they knew it was an impossible request. They told him they would see what they could do, but the man kept insisting that he be buried wearing his socks… The man was niftar, and his family tried to get a heter from a rav, but all of the rabbanim said it was not allowed, and impossible. The family felt bad not to follow with their father/grandfathers wish on his death bed, but what could they do? Halacha was halacha. The matter was forgotten. A few years later a closed envelope was found. They opened it up, and inside was a letter from their deceased father. They read it and inside the father mentioned the matter of the socks. He wrote he knew it would be impossible to bury him in his socks, and it was impossible to find such a heter. He wanted to teach a lesson that after you die, nothing comes with you. Not your money, your wealth, your car, your house, your designer labels, fancy clothes, and not even your socks… The only thing that comes with you is the Torah you learned, the mitzvos you did and your maasim tovim.
I am the last one to talk, I enjoy my jewelry, I enjoy my labels… I think the thing to keep in perspective is that the reason you should be doing the things you do is to impress the shechina, and not the schuna.

They are warm and friendly, and I am right too.. They are mostly from in town… No sdeera… Yes, they are there because they enjoy the warm and friendly, and close knot environment… All valid points…
Not necessarily contradicting one another 🙂
June 11, 2009 3:42 am at 3:42 am in reply to: Waterbury Connecticut: The In Town Out of Town Alternative #697428outoftownerMemberumm… Azi, I can half agree with you, But 90% of them are from Brooklyn, so maybe the refreshing thing that these boys DON’T have is in the air that they breathe in Waterbury 🙂
outoftownerMemberAny more? C’mon, I have a hard time believing that noone has had a funny dating experience this week. Besides, I could use a good laugh.
outoftownerMemberBecause I am not a feminist, and I personally would rather feeling like the girl on a date and have a guy take me out… I have driven my car on the first date when I had to, I like to drive, and I have also driven on dates later on.. I have no problem with it, I just prefer that the guy drive.. They seem better at talking and driving then I do 🙂
outoftownerMemberThis is getting boring- any new stories…?
In reference to the guy with the learners permit..
I once went out with a guy, and the shadchan told me,
He doesn’t have a license but hes a very good driver (he had been in eretz yisroel since before he could get a license) So she hasked me if i minded if he drove… (MY CAR)
Since I am over 18 and had my license for over 5 years, in my state it is legal for someone without a license to drive with someone who has their license (With those conditions met)…
He was a half decent driver,
but the whole time my was hand was grabbing the arm rest by the window for dear life! And I was gasping every time he stopped short…
outoftownerMembera friend of mine once got picked up by a guy in a car service…
Oops, the service ran out of regular sedans, so he picked her up in a 15 seater…
Not all of the seats were installed, just the back one, so she told me they were sliding all over the van…
No, they did not get married.
Another one…
Once someone I know Went out with a guy in Eretz Yisroel who was very tall.
When they were leaving the hotel lobby, he hailed a cab, and opened the door for her so she could get in behind the passenger seat. Since he was a good 6-7 inches taller than her (She is 5’9″) She began to slide over behind the driver’s seat (which is pushed farther back) so he would have some leg room (aww so considerate) She leaned over to move over, and her leg was a little bit out the door… He closed the door on her leg… He felt terrible! And apologized profusely… She very much in pain responded, “It’s ok, I still have another one…”
They didn’t get married either..
outoftownerMemberoomis: “I don’t feel that I or my family members should be dressing the way the Yeshivish crowd does”
I’m not saying you should feel the need to dress that way- The problem comes when people associate a person’s level of frumkeit with accessories they adorn… I wonder if it would bother you if someone felt you were less frum because you weren’t wearing a hat and jacket (not saying you should or shouldn’t- that’s for another thread) I think people see people in hats in jackets in sweltering weather, and maybe think in the back of their minds “Oh, so you think you are better than me because you are wearing a hat and jacket at the zoo in 9o degrees.” Where it may look silly to them, like I said… Who cares, that’s between them and the Ribono Shel Olam… Not you
aussieboy: “reason is not because they feel bad that they are so hot.”
I was being facetious… people said they believed it looked silly to be shvitzing in the zoo in 90+ weather in a hat and jacket– I know they aren’t sympathetic towards how hot they are 😉
outoftownerMemberI think there are a few issues here…
1) I don’t see why it should bother the next person if they see someone wearing a suit and a hat… What’s it it you? Let them be hot- it was obviously their conscious choice. Goyim have seen Yidden, they know this is the way some dress, and they are pretty accepting of it.. (It doesn’t bother them) I think it bothers their Jewish “brethren” (for lack of a better word) Who don’t necessarily wear the same levush who have more of an problem, and who are more sensitive. –> Which gets me to my second issue.
2) I believe that people who see these men wearing hats and jackets out of the beis medrash or shul, don’t necessarily have their best interests at heart. What’s bothering them is not that they look hot and they feel bad that they are wearing a few extra layers. They are self conscious that they themselves choose not to dress that way (not making a statement that they should or shouldn’t) and that because these men are making a statement, they feel that it reflects poorly on them and their level of frumkeit. The problem is when people think that the hat and jacket creates the ben torah… And that if you are missing the hat and the jacket then you can’t possible be a ben torah (Which is not true)
People see it as these men are looking to be superior and better because they are dressing in a certain way. (Which my or may not be true depending on the person)
But the most important thing is that however you dress YOU ARE DRESSING TO IMPRESS THE SHECHINA, NOT THE SHECHUNA and as “heilige” as you want to dress on the outside, make sure that your insides match…
Just my 2-sense
Take it for what its worth..
But, I feel like worrying about the hat and jacket isn’t what’s going to make moshiach come sooner, rather we should be working on becoming better and growing in our Yiddishkeit, and be accepting of other Yidden who are being Ovdei Hashem, but maybe not the exact way as you.
outoftownerMemberI didn’t say how COULD they remember a guy they went out with a year ago….
I said, how could they NOT remember a person they went out with a year ago.. I hear that in a year you could potentially forget the NAME of a person, but usually when you are face to face, you remember that you dated before… And what’s weirder is that it took them all the way to the hotel lobby to remember… Interesting…

outoftownerMemberThis thread should be called…
People With Too Much Time on Their Hands
outoftownerMemberThere is a certain out of town yeshiva (mesivta) where the rule is that the bochurim may only have kosher phones, they must be turned in during school hours, and are returned to them during free time. Here is what all of the bochurim did… They got kosher phones, they follow the rules with the phones, and at all other times they have their regular phones that they are able to use and call whoever they want whenever they want…. Hmm… Sounds like cell phones for responsible mesivta bochurim is a great idea, don’t you think?
outoftownerMembertorahls1, sorry I don’t respond to shtusim and to people who don’t ask questions to get real answers, but rather to fight their point without caring what anyone else says. Enough people answered back to the meshugas that you wrote, you don’t need to hear more from me. I didn’t start this thread to fight with people. I started it to express an issue.
outoftownerMemberThese back and forth postings are not getting anywhere. There are those that believe that the surface should hold more weight (No pun intended) And there are those who believe that you should in many cases look beyond surface deep. We all I think, I hope realize that in the IDEAL world it’s middos that are the ikar over chitzonius and gashmius, but many people aren’t there, and they need a perfectly trim package to seal the deal. Unfortunately people aren’t changing their views, because there is too much pressure and too much caring about what the oilam thinks to choose a spouse that doesn’t depict that which everyone will be impressed by. But I hope that people will stop and think about what is important in a shidduch before a potential is “nixed” over something that after getting to know and appreciate a person isn’t as important as a name and a pretty picture of someone you don’t know. OF course attractiveness is important, of course being healthy and taking care of yourself is important, but if a person doesn’t fit that picture perfect image you had in your head, then maybe think, twice and give it a chance.
