optimusprimeMemberFay,
How do I contact TTI? Is it acreditted?
optimusprimeMemberI am unsure. The yeshiva’s American address is 1072 Madison Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701. The phone number is 732-987-7776. Contact the yeshiva to determine the correct percentage.
optimusprimeMemberIt is located in Jerusalem and is officially called Yeshivas Aderes Hatorah. The student enrollment is predominantly jewish males looking for a yeshiva that places an emphasis on the belief that every student with a desire to excel in his learning deserves the attention and support needed to truly do so.
optimusprimeMemberEven though it does not have a program for girls, I know students in Yeshivas Tzvi Yaakov receive a degree from Thomas Edison State College of New Jersey. It is fully accredited and a great way to further your education.
optimusprimeMemberA similar situation happened to a close colleague. He went to Zeev HaTorah, which is in Jerusalem. The Rosh Yeshiva is Rav Shmuel Brazil who is a world class Talmud Chochom and musical artist. He used to teach in Shor Yoshuv in Long Island but came to Israel a few years ago and started Zeev HaTorah.
May 29, 2011 3:07 am at 3:07 am in reply to: Looking for Yeshiva half day learning half day structured activity program #772049optimusprimeMemberA fantastic program is offered at the Jerusalem College of Technology. JCT (known as Machon Lev in Israel) offers a year program that has structured learning in the morning. Afternoon sessions are dedicated to college courses, with occasional trips, hikes, and other extracurricular activities.
optimusprimeMemberThere are Sfardic yeshivos that are on a high level equal to Brisk or Mir (there are many others, I am just typing offhand.) Two that come to mind are Ahavat Shalom and Ben Porat Yosef. Both are located in Jerusalem, with Ben Porat Yosef having campuses in the Old City of Jerusalem and the Geula neighborhood. Ben Porat Yosef is headed by Rav Moshe Tzadkah, while in Ahavat Shalom the Rosh Yeshiva is Rav Yaakov Hillel.
optimusprimeMemberTorahsEmes:
I am unsure about how long you must attend to get the degree. A close friend of mine learned in Israel for two years and it took him two years to get his BTL from Ner Yisroel. I would assume every institution has different rules concerning this issue.

I was just stating the fact that this whole movement of Sfardim adopting Ashkenzic customs and attending Ashkenzic yeshivos has happened in recent years due to the settlement of both Sfardic and Ashkenazic jews in the same area. In America, Brooklyn and Queens are prime examples. In Israel, there is Jerusalem and other towns and cities where this has occurred.
Whether this is good or bad is not what I was speaking of. All I know is that in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, and other Sfardic countries the yeshivish uniform of black hat and white shirt were certainly not the norm. Then again the same could be said for Mir and Slabodka. Why now is there a new standard is a whole different story.
optimusprimeMemberThe Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary is under Yeshiva University, while the Rabbinical Seminary of America is a part of Chofetz Chaim
optimusprimeMemberJust to clarify on charliehall, in the RIETS system there are different programs of learning Torah. The highest and most prestigious is the Yeshiva Program. If you are the Maggid Shiur in YP, then you are a Rosh Yeshiva.
optimusprimeMember“I feel we should abolish this expensive preposition.”
Are you opposed to learning in Eretz Yisroel because it is expensive? Did your parents not spend money on your bris (the bagels and lox are a commodity), bar mitzvah, and high school tuition (depending on location but still not as cheap as public school.)? Did your in-laws and parents not spend money on your wedding (assuming you are not single.)
We are willing to go the extra mile for things we see as special. Studying the holy Torah in the holy land is certainly worthwhile and valuable.

optimusprimeMemberGetting a BTL does not mean law school is the only option. I know of some who have gotten into master’s programs in the arts (like Jewish Education) and political science with a BTL. It is a worthwhile endeavor and have many advantages for the future.

May 26, 2011 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm in reply to: Cultural differences – sepharadim vs ashkenazim #793708optimusprimeMemberOf course! Historical and geographical factors lead to differences not just between Sfardim and Ashkenazim but between Ashkenazim themselves! Compare to the Torah Im Derech Eretz of German jewry to the philosophy of the Eastern European jews.
An issue was brought with me from a younger bachur. Raised Sfardic, he became perplexed over whether to continue to wear a black hat or not since his Saba told him in Iraq they never did. While I did tell him to ask one with more experience in the matter (like the Mashgiach), it seems that this cross-culturalism has only become abundant in the past fifty years or so in America where we live in closer contact.
optimusprimeMemberI was recently introduced to Stop Surviving, Start Living by Rabbi BenTzion Shafier. He is a musmach of Yeshivat Rabbeinu Yisrael Meir HaKohen and was close to the R”Y Rav Henoch Leibowitz ZT”L. He uses the first chapter of Mesilas Yesharim as a guide to answer difficult hashkafic questions that come up everyday.
It was a real joy to read. I would highly recommend it.
optimusprimeMemberThe way it works in Ner Yisroel is the BTL takes four years to complete. So if you learned in the Mir for two years, you can learn in Ner Yisroel for another two years and get a fully accredited BTL. I think Chaim Berlin and MTJ also grant a BTL that is fully accredited as well.

Sorry to be the grammar police, but I believe it was Rav Yitzchak Herzog, not Rav Yisroel,
optimusprimeMemberIts only a waste for those that use it for illicit purposes, like Seforim that they’ll never use. I will not even go into illegal activities which, unfortunately, are all too common as well for the Israel Year
