We do.
OneOfManyParticipantThat happened to me too, once. It was the 6th time I was editing the post, and I think the mods got fed up with me. 😛 That’s my theory.
OneOfManyParticipantWhat’s up with the mods today?
OneOfManyParticipantBSD, what do those mean?
November 6, 2011 10:03 pm at 10:03 pm in reply to: Cain/Gingrich debate tonight carried on C-Span #824327OneOfManyParticipantI don’t have any opinion on Cain, but I agree with 2scents on one point – the career politician-types, by virtue of being politicians, are most likely to change their agendas to suit themselves. No matter how little/much experience they have under their belts.
OneOfManyParticipantI love Toi’s subtitle. *tee hee*
OneOfManyParticipantZeesKite: It was intended 100% humorously. BPers are cool by me. 🙂
OneOfManyParticipantaries2756: It all depends on the sem. Different ones have different accommodations. There are some that do provide all meals/cutlery/etc. and have laundry services on premises.
But the footwear is a VERY valid point – the most important thing to bring is a good pair of sneakers! You walk A LOT in Eretz Yisroel (esp. Har Nof) and there are also tiyulim to consider…
OneOfManyParticipantYeah – and you have a brother, all the better! 😉
OneOfManyParticipantButtons identifying your group are a good way to start. Secret club meetings are good too – everyone loves being part of something mysterious. Then you can progress to leaflets, quarterly rallies, and advertisements in the mass media.
OneOfManyParticipantIf I see someone of the opposite gender that it would be awkward not to acknowledge, yet the setting makes a greeting equally awkward, I just sort of nod.
OneOfManyParticipantStart a fan club. I’m telling you, she will love it.
OneOfManyParticipantI second ZeesKite: it’s a nice way of greeting people with deference to Shabbos. Plus, you can even say “Good Shabbos” to people you don’t know – what a way to bring achdus to Klal Yisroel! (Unless, of course, you’re from Borough Park – then it’s just a way of broadcasting that you are a nut.)
OneOfManyParticipant…
My hair has no gender.
OneOfManyParticipantPenny for the guy?
😉
OneOfManyParticipantIt’s different for girls, though. Girl’s seminaries usually (some don’t) have cooks. And while the food usually isn’t gourmet, it’s edible.
And your son needs to take the 101 on 1001 Ways To Cook Eggs (in a sandwich maker. This is a required course for all yeshiva bochurim staying away from home. 😛
OneOfManyParticipantBaalHabooze: Mah zeh?
Edit: Oh, I get it…why did they turn into musical notes? It was much cooler before…

OneOfManyParticipantAvram in MD: +1
OneOfManyParticipantkapusta: I happen to thing that the chocolate coating on HD bars is the best chocolate out there, and that they should make bars out of it. (How did you know? :P)
Oh, but I HATE chocolate ice cream. Unless it’s REALLY good, it tastes nothing like chocolate…
OneOfManyParticipantOoh, creepy…
OneOfManyParticipantG’shbs! 😀
OneOfManyParticipantOh, old man reminded me of something: they do NOT have good deodorant! If you need the extra-strength type (like me :)) then you MUST bring it!
whatelseisleft: Myth. I brought from America (to start off with) and it made absolutely no difference.
The different water CAN cause stomach issues, though.
OneOfManyParticipantEncore! 😀
OneOfManyParticipantand through the vents.
XD
Seriously, though, it’s mamish the stupidest thing ever…regardless of the cost.
OneOfManyParticipantZeeskite: XD
OneOfManyParticipantOneOfManyParticipantDisclaimer: I am not a grammar Nazi. The idea of pluralizing “lol” just was too amusing to ignore.
OneOfManyParticipantWhat most people don’t realize is that you really DON’T have to bring so many things. It’s extra baggage, and you really CAN buy most things there.
What do you mean by “hashkafah”?
OneOfManyParticipantJothar: 🙂
OneOfManyParticipantaries2756: I think most girls’ high schools/seminaries DO have workshops on relationship building, communication, etc.
yitayningwut: Nice way to frame it.
OneOfManyParticipantJothar: “Laugh out louds”? Sounds kinda off…
😛
OneOfManyParticipanttoomuch00: Well, I *guess* I can help you with that, too…:P
When I was in high school (back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth), I was kinda in a similar situation. I pretty much stayed out of the social scene, thinking all the girls were flighty and obnoxious, and stuck to my little, loose group of friends. Now that I look back, I don’t think what I did was so mature. :/ But I feel what you are saying.
My advice – you don’t have to be friends with EVERYBODY. Nor do you have to hate them. If you have some people to hang out/study with, it’s enough. Just be civil to the rest, and they may even turn out decent.
And as for close friends – I have more of them from my year of seminary than all previous twelve combined. 😉
OneOfManyParticipantHaLeiVi: Do you know that people ACTUALLY do that? It drives me right up the wall and through the roof.
(Yeah, so this is really irrelevant…:P)
OneOfManyParticipantolderwiser:
if there not focusing on shidduchim are we ready to just place these girls in the workplace? college (chv’s)?
I know quite a number of girls who are doing exactly that… And nobody had a problem with it (last time I checked).
OneOfManyParticipantALL of John Steinbeck’s works are EXCELLENT. I particularly recommend East of Eden. It’s fascinating. I could see why Of Mice and Men (and perhaps a couple of his other short novels) might be objectionable (on basis of language).
OneOfManyParticipantAstrix: Very true. Didn’t mean to doubt you. May you have a long life. 🙂
OneOfManyParticipantZeesKite: “Big Fish Caught”
XD
OneOfManyParticipantChemistry midterm? Heh…I could refer you to some people. 😛
Haven’t taken chemistry for a LOOOOONG time, but if I remember correctly, endothermic reactions absorb heat, and exothermic release. So I think endothermic.
OneOfManyParticipanttoomuch00: *response*
OneOfManyParticipantMindOverChatter: They should totally sticky this thread, just for your post there. 😛
OneOfManyParticipantAstrix: You seem to be saying that since sheitels can be worn in an un-tzniusdig fashion, they should preferably not be worn at all. To my mind, that is the same as saying that since clothing can be worn in an un-tzniusdig fashion, women should preferably dress in hijab. I’m not sure that this concept shtims with the tznius philosophy.
OneOfManyParticipantTo clarify: they don’t stitch the extensions in, they glue them with special medical-grade glue. The glue lasts for several months, but eventually it loosens and you have to get them replaced. It’s a relatively non-invasive procedure, though.
November 3, 2011 4:05 am at 4:05 am in reply to: If you've read "NASI Project Responds", have you changed your mind? #847690OneOfManyParticipantEnder: That’s not a fair thing to say. Many of these girls DO shoulder full financial responsibility. And what they do have saved up should be for their wedding/home/old age. Why should they have to spend their life savings in shadchanus?
OneOfManyParticipantsimcha613: +1,000,000
November 2, 2011 10:22 pm at 10:22 pm in reply to: Inglish – as She is spoken around the world #823324OneOfManyParticipantYay, new ones! These are really funny! 😀
OneOfManyParticipant<– 😀
Thanks, mod!
OneOfManyParticipantMost Intriguing SN – Ms. Critique who may always know the answers correctly
OneOfManyParticipantHey, charlie brown and Jothar aren’t trying to close the thread. They are just trying to raise awareness. I think that’s a good thing.
“If you see something – say something.” 😛
OneOfManyParticipantHey, where’s BaalHabooze?
OneOfManyParticipantVery nice. 🙂
