QB, do you mind if I ask why you think seminary shouldn’t exist? I promise to to argue with you about it – I just want to know.

It’s not chulent, it’s not alive, it’s not aluminum, diamonds, gold, nickel, lead, zinc or copper, it’s manmade, it does not grow from the ground, it has electronic components, it’s not green, it is tangible, it’s used for general-purpose use, it sometimes is (and sometimes isn’t) larger than a 2 liter soda bottle, it doesn’t have a screen, it doesn’t have audio output.

Basically, we’re looking for some sort of consumer electronic equipment, with no screen or sound (so probably for task-oriented vs. entertainment use), that comes in different sizes.

Well, I could never figure out why Rogue couldn’t control her power. Obviously, they had to do that to make the story believable, but I never got how it fit into cannon. So MY Rogue would be able to assimilate and retain all and any abilites at will (WITHOUT the pesky memories), so she’d ALSO be a telepath who could combat Jean. And everything else, of course.

But apart from abilities, you have to admit that Rogue is sooo much cooler. Jean is just so perfect and bland.

WIY: All that you’ve mentioned above is NOT making kids “dumber” – it’s just cultural conditioning. I really don’t think that texting or Facebook or whatever reduces a person’s actual mental capacity. And you can’t attack the kids for whatever apathy or intellectual slovenliness they may have – it’s not even a conscious decision on their part, so that won’t do any good.

It’s funny how some of the greatest novelists have written some gems of non-fiction that nobody goes near. For the hikers here – I think I liked “The Salmon of Doubt” even more than the Hitchhiker series.

The only reason her power isn’t better is because she can’t control it…otherwise, she would be completely invincible. They had to give her some sort of failing.

Toi, those books are the just the best. And for all those who think otherwise, you should try them. Seriously. (Except if you’re REALLY a pedant. Then you won’t like them. 🙂 )

Thanks, sam. What sort of book is the codex Judaica? SG – what yitay said. FTR, I did do a search to see if there were any threads on non-fiction already. But alas. 🙁 yitay – thanks, I’m not really looking for any specific something, I just want to see if anyone else likes non-fiction and what they like.

I’ll say mine – I absolutely love “How to Lie with Statistics” by Darrell Huff. I think it’s actually my favorite book, novel or non-fiction alike. And William Zinsser’s “On Writing Well.” Also “The Book of Where: Or How to Be Naturally Geographic” by Neil Bell and “The Stars” by H. A. Rey (although they’re both kids’ books, I think they’re better than a lot I’ve read).

Anyone ever read these or anything similar?
