I think they are knowingly exaggerating – like when people say they are claustrophobic or insomniac. I don’t see why that would make the real disorder not real, though…

Logician: I think you are talking from the perspective of the individual. It’s definitely good if a person is able to remove themselves completely from the temptations of the Web. But looking at the big picture – it is completely unrealistic to assume that this solution is implementable by everyone, even if it hypothetically should be. The problem will exist on some level in any scenario. And I really think the problem is everyone’s individual problem, because if those around you have trouble managing it, it will probably effect you too.

Girls: I hate to say this, but it’s really dumb to judge something you can’t understand. (I am a girl in shidduchim, for the record). The fact that the practice of requiring pictures of girls may or may not be over the top does not mean that the idea behind it is bunk.

Hmm…I don’t think that contradicts what I said. My point is that they need to be proactively dealt with. Davening that we should not be lead to nisyonos does not mean that once they are upon us, we should spin fantasies instead of dealing with them.

The reality is that we’ve always has nisyonos, tefilos notwithstanding. Perhaps these tefilos are being used to save us from harsher nisyonos. I don’t think it’s fruitful to dwell on such ideas.

    Sheesh, don’t flaunt your ignorance.

I do think life would be manageable, or even improved without consumer-based Web services. Removing the Internet alters the paradigm too much for your hypothesizing, though. Do you even know what you are talking about?

One more thing – if we didn’t the spiritual challenges we have today, we would have different ones. Wishing and shutting them away doesn’t do anything. You have to learn how to overcome them. That’s what this asifa is for, isn’t it? Just saying.

I also learned what kapusta meant from the CR…we call it chlupshes (I really have no idea how to spell that). My mother also makes yebret, which is basically the same thing but with grape leaves. (We used to call it just “stuffed grape leaves” until my mother’s Syrian friend told us they had a catchier name for it. :D) Yebret is yummy. 🙂

Obviously I do, but only if it is a well-informed opinion. Otherwise I indicate that my own feelings my be tainting my knowledge of the subject.

I really don’t know how you define yeshivish, but I define it as having a fixed devotion and sense of self-efficacy toward Torah, da’as Torah, and a torah lifestyle.. The externals don’t figure in primarily, but they are generally influenced. Why don’t you share what you think yeshivish means?

Don’t worry, because apart from credits, APs look good in admissions. The more you take the better (only if you plan on getting good marks on them, that is.) 🙂

Taking AP Euro is probably a sound idea because it’s (I think) a general studies core, so it will definitely save you time. See, I took AP U.S. History, which I later found out is just plain electie credit, which I don’t have to spare. So I will graduate with those 6 credits as superfluous. 🙁

Also, you probably won’t be stuck with crummy classes because the beauty of college is that if you choose your field of study *coughEnglishcoughcough* wisely, you will probably have a lot of wiggle room for classes. 😀 I only take stuff I like, and core classes that I know have good teachers.
