OneOfManyParticipant…aaaaaand back again to 80 and sunny. 🙁
OneOfManyParticipantIs THAT why everyone goes into either teaching or PT/OT? lol

OneOfManyParticipantOh whoops. Then I don’t think you can (and if there is a way, it probably isn’t so kosher…).
OneOfManyParticipantWhen you plug your iPod in, it should pop up in the pane on the left-hand side of the iTunes window (under “Devices” or something like that.) Then just drag the album you want to add from your library to the icon for the iPod (make sure the cursor changes to “+20” [or however many songs are in the album]).
OneOfManyParticipantWelcome back, Mr. Mensa…ah, you forgot to respond to this:

OneOfManyParticipantI had to go out earlier today and it was really bleeech…luckily now I am safely ensconced in my air-conditioning. ^_^

OneOfManyParticipantI don’t know why everyone is trying to excuse this person. Whether she was right or wrong is irrelevant. She commented on Goq’s personal issue, and the thing about involving yourself in someone else’s personal issues is that there are certain rules of conduct you have to follow. She most obviously didn’t, so her comment was really no more than a gross invasion of privacy. I don’t know why Goq should have to humbly take such a thing just because “it’s really meant for his own good.”
OneOfManyParticipantUSB drives…
OneOfManyParticipantHm, point taken. ^_^
OneOfManyParticipantYeah, it’s one of those books that you can enjoy as a child and enjoy when your older in a whole different way. ^_^
OneOfManyParticipantBump.
OneOfManyParticipantI also associate Baltimore with creepiness, because of Edgar Allen Poe. But I know it isn’t really. ^_^
OneOfManyParticipantUsed as a tool to accomplish a task?
OneOfManyParticipantYou have no right to talk, you troll you. 😛
OneOfManyParticipantAll studies conclude that males have a higher average IQ.
And you know this how…? Because you’ve conducted all of them? I suggest you look harder.
Agav, the brain size thing is a poor explanation. The brain of the average child is smaller than the brain of a mentally retarded adult, yet the child’s cognitive abilities are clearly superior. There may be a correlation between brain size and cognitive ability, but it cannot be a definitive explanation.
(And, no, the discussion here isn’t based on Yiddishkeit.)
Oho. Then what is it based on?
P.S. What are you talking about? I don’t think it’s the same thing that I’m talking about.
OneOfManyParticipantI have no idea what my IQ is. My parents never let me get tested (and I really wanted to when I was younger). And now that I’m old enough to get it done on my own, I don’t even want to. Do you want to know why? When I asked my parents why they wouldn’t let me get tested, they told me that they didn’t want me to get tested because it would be the worst thing they could do to me. I invested so my of my self-worth in that number that if I got a really high score, become complacent and lose my drive to work hard, and if I got a score lower than I expected, I would become depressed and not care about success anymore. And regardless of what I got, there would always come a day when I found someone with a higher IQ, which of course would shatter my illusions of superiority. They didn’t let me get tested because they wanted to instill in me the knowledge that the numbers are completely meaningless. They have no effect on your life. The only thing that will prove your intelligence is how you use and develop it. And that is what I believe, and I know it’s worth believing, because my parents’ successes are something to strive for.
OneOfManyParticipantI would like to disregard all your studies, but everything in this paragraph
Why are there twice as many men with an IQ of 125 as there are women? Why are there 5.5 times as many men with an IQ of 155 as there are women? Why at the near-genius level brilliant men outnumber brilliant women by 8 to one? Why at or above the 99.9th percentile there are about 15 times more males?
is STILL part and parcel of selected studies. And there are different studies that do not support these findings. And I still am not interested fighting that battle with you.
So why don’t you disregard all the studies you’ve seen and explain what basis you have for thinking men are more intelligent than women? And withing that answer, please have the courtesy to address this:
I think that this is what we really should be arguing: does your motivation in all of this have to do with the roles of men and women in Yiddishkeit? If that is the case, why do you have to insist that men are “smarter”? Hahsem created men and women differently to fulfill different roles. If you say the difference is intrinsic in intelligence – even a man and woman of the same intelligence are still different. And a woman he is more intelligent than the average man still can’t fulfill a man’s role. And unquestionably, if Hashem wanted men to be unequivocably “smarter” than women, He could have made it so. Why can’t you just accept that Hashem’s motivation (kaviyachol) is whatever it is, and can’t be reconciled to your own understanding? I think most women are able to do this…so why can’t you?
P.S. Before you spruce your up vocabulary, you might want to work on your topic headings. Try googling “capitalization in titles,” and find a result that references the Chicago Manual of Style. I think this one is okay, but it will probably make it harder for me to spot your multiple identities in the future, so I suggest you go for it.
OneOfManyParticipantAny mechanical/electronic components?
OneOfManyParticipantOneOfManyParticipantYou should tell her that the fact that there are people more intelligent than her renders her intelligence insignificant. So she should really get over the idea that she’s got a brain. ^_^
OneOfManyParticipantExactly what I said in my post (did you read it?). Your argument and its basis were reached by a gross oversimplification of the actual statistical data and the studies done on it. You are assuming that you fully understand research that scientists have debated for a very long time, and believe that the conclusion you chose is therefore unquestionably more accurate than all others. You already reached this conclusion before finding evidence, and are willfully ignoring all evidence to the contrary (and there is plenty), and the multitude of different explanations and hypotheses. Like I said, I am not interested in parrying Scholarly Names as neither you not I represent them properly. So please drop the act already.
And unquestionably, if Hashem wanted men to be unequivocally “smarter” than women, He could have made it so. Why can’t you just accept that Hashem’s motivation (kaviyachol) is whatever it is, and can’t be reconciled to your own understanding? I think most women are able to do this…so why can’t you?
OneOfManyParticipantIs the fact that the Jewish People, as a whole, are on average significantly more intelligent than gentiles similarly irrelevant?
I don’t know, but your argument certainly is.
OneOfManyParticipantThanks for the vote of confidence, yitay. 🙂
OneOfManyParticipant“I’ve checked out Churchill’s Second World War and the statement is quite correct – not a single mention of Nazi ‘gas chambers,’ a ‘genocide’ of the Jews, or of ‘six million’ Jewish victims of the war.
– Richard Lynn, Professor Emeritus University of Ulster, December 5, 2005
This is of course a mere scholarly observation, there is no real meaning imputed, of course, hur hur.
3. Nobel Prize achievements are an incredibly shoddy basis for your argument, for a number of reasons.
OneOfManyParticipanthumbug
OneOfManyParticipantI just told you that you are relying on the research of ardent Neo-Nazis. I rather think you’ll have to rebuild your position a little better than that.
Also, think upon the reason why they were the first ones you found.
OneOfManyParticipantBump.
Did anyone here ever read The Phantom Tollbooth when they were little? I loved that book…I even used it for a college admissions essay as the book the made the most impact on my life. 🙂
OneOfManyParticipantApparently men also have the edge in the imbecilic range, so I’d say that makes us even, no? 🙂
On a more serious note, you might want to look up your two esteemed professors before relying on their assertions. Both are known for their very controversial stances on holocaust denial and eugenics. It throws a little doubt on their motives and impartiality, I think.
OneOfManyParticipantPlease don’t kill me, everyone, but I’m going to say this: A size zero is not most obviously not a normal (or even just slightly below normal) size for most people. Your body size has to do with your bone structure and musculature AND your body fat, so it’s dumb to try to say that any single size is the ideal. However, by the same token, it is dumb to label anyone who IS a size zero, two, whatever as unhealthily skinny. I think that in their zeal to defend the big people, very often people don’t realize that they are attacking the small people with the same prejudice that they are so against. I am a small person and I get this a lot in real life, and can’t for the life of me understand why people think it is less inappropriate than commenting on someone who is big.
OneOfManyParticipantI know someone (Sefardi) who got married when she was 16, and her eldest daughter got married when she was 17. She was a grandparent by her mid-thirties.
OneOfManyParticipantlol
OneOfManyParticipantoomis: Lucille Ball’s dress size is the equivalent of a modern day size 6. (Not that I disagree with your point, but sizing standards have changed since then, mainly due to vanity sizing.)
OneOfManyParticipantNo, you said people should research the payment plan on their spouse, because even though it might sound fanatic, that’s what we do for our washing machines…here, I’ll pull up your post for you:
I was just wondering, why do you have to be religiously compatible with your washing machine? I mean, as long as you have a nice fancy dira to put it in…
OneOfManyParticipantOh wait, I meant washing machine.
OneOfManyParticipantLoyal Jew: What, you’re supposed to be religiously compatible with your dishwasher? That’s very fascinating…
OneOfManyParticipantOh, those charming little tales of sordid juvenile violence… 🙂 I once got into a fight with a classmate and in typical girl-war style, she made this really sly and spiteful remark to someone else about me within my earshot – but instead of using the same tactic against her (which would have been the protocol), I walked right up to her and SLAPPED her so hard…the whole room was SHOCKED. (This wouldn’t really be as shocking but I think we were like twelve at the time…) Later, the kid comes up to me like nothing happened, all chummy again… Mind you, I think this was the only time I ever hit someone in anger (except my siblings, of course), but boy did it work…
Another funny story – I had a friend who was a little goody-goody overachiever just as I was (don’t worry, I outgrew it), and we always used to sit in those two seats right in front of the teachers desk. We always used to play tic-tac-toe with a piece of chalk on the teacher’s desk during certain classes – and the teacher always allowed this because it prevented us front raising our hands and shouting out answers (very mature, I know). And that was eleventh grade. :S
OneOfManyParticipantBecause we won’t be in proximity?
OneOfManyParticipantLaw of Pedantry: At any given level of education, there will always be a teacher who does not give perfect scores because “only God is perfect.”
OneOfManyParticipantIt’s one of the Mishpacha’s Yom Tov supplements.
OneOfManyParticipantHeh heh, couldn’t resist. ^_^
