wallflower: the problem with the thrill is that once they get married and the “thrill” of a new marriage fades, they will be looking for the thrill of hatzoloh calls and the nitty gritty that a marriage needs in order to work will be lacking and might strain the marriage as the wife can feel something is more important than she is. thats why shana rishona guidelines are needed and why single guys shouldn’t be allowed on

i know that they had to make shana rishona gedarim for hatzoloh members in certain areas because of sholom bayis i.e.:calls late at night, too many calls

i was in bmg and i saw signs both announcing the petira and listing where the live hook ups were. it was also in the middle of the chavrusa tumult and I’m not really offended if a 25 yr old yeshiva guy learning lumdus all day isn’t interested in the levaya i don’t know if many can appreciate what chacham ovadia ztl meant to us. i saw a story brought down there was someone in his library and the rebbetzin told him that every sefer in this library was studied and know to chacham or else it wouldn’t be there

i don’t know if the juice requires a hechsher or not but i do know that all the parts to make your own flavor are avail with a hechsher except the nicotine and menthol crystals. as far as effectiveness, in my experience using it and seeing my friends use it, its a mental commitment that you are no longer smoking cigarettes and even with that commitment the second you don’t have it like on holidays and passover most guys run straight back to the real thing. its good because when u use it ur not actually smoking but bad because you use it much more increasing you nicotine intake and is not really effective in helping one quit

while i agree with your point, i don’t think the problem is the parents. its the people who tell the parents that joining the army is worthy of disowning. as unconditional as that love is and should be there are times when it should be overridden i don’t believe this is one of them

again zd has no interest in any debate he wants to rip rip rip (proven by the fact that he made up a story) so he sits by his computer where no one knows who he is and does just that.

thats a nice way of saying lets find anything we think is controversial and rip on it… you don’t even know for sure its true and you don’t know where or any of the details you completely jumped the gun just to rip when you saw the opportunity. and lets say it was in fact true and some chasidishe rebbe went and made such a ban YOUR the one to question him?! bringing it up can only lead to lashon hara nothing practical and nothing lemaysa so please leave saving the world to superman you accomplished nothing with this thread and the only thing you could have accomplished was bringing more bad publicity to a world that doesn’t need it. your not in the same league as any rebbe and said rebbe certainly would not have had to answer to you. and by the way every type of orthodoxy has kids at risk and going off the derech the motivation to go on a tv show is purely money

o and if your trying to save the world i don’t think the coffee room on yeshiva world is going to help anything its just for the sake of ranting and can only lead to extreme lashon hara

i think nisht’s point is that 1. the OP decided to take a story and blow it up into something bigger and make it a religious and chumra fight when theres nothing to support that, 2. i have not been here long but zd does seem to have a vendetta against these types of things which explains nisht’s uneasiness 3. even if this ban were true none is forcing it upon anyone except those people in that community and 4. don’t hide behind your religion and say kol yisroel areivim and use it as an excuse to spread sin as chinam on those you don’t necessarily agree with hashkafically.

as an SY from the community i must say rebdoniel is completely off. yes in the past we needed to import rabbonim but now? in the past five to ten years there has been a huge push in prioritizing learning there are numerous programs for full time learners and hundreds of baalebatim learning every morning from as early as five o’clock am before they run off to work and many young people finishing up kollel are now returning and taking positions in the community. the reason why we don’t have so many doctors and lawyers is because syrians didn’t need to go run after these professions in order to make money they went into businesses and were very successful without the need for years of college and please don’t “poster boy” our community with this rabbis four was kicked out a long time ago, ask any competent person their thoughts on “r” shammah, and rabbi abadie has no bearing on the community except for his seemingly lenient passover list

and i thought the whole greatness of sem is that girls could rough it and don’t have to worry about looking perfect bec its only friends around them not every outfit needs its own shoe and makeup doesn’t need to be reapplied every seven min.

i didn’t mean that because she brought to much they shouldn’t help her i for one would have definitely helped her and since when does grabbing a suitcase violate shomer negia? theres nothing worse than ppl being too religious that they totally disregard others irrationally like the guy who prays for fifteen minutes when theres ten ppl in a minyan and were waiting to start chazara or when that fifteen minutes guy doesn’t let me finish praying because he’s standing behind me
