A lot of people, who made a wedding in Lakewood, do not live and do not plan to live in Lakewood. Do you think it is a good idea for a Chasan after the wedding to drive 1-1,5 hours?

Some Jewish people don’t mind to be counted, but some do.

    – even for a minyan men not counted as 1-2-3 etc.

    – some Jewish people do not want a number to be related to their name, because this remind them numbers given in concetration camp (some still have a number on their arm)

so, please don’t give me a number

I know girls who have been sent home because their skirts were too long, is covering our legs a breach of tznius?

No, it is not a breach of tznius, but some (not me) has an opinion, that TOO long skirt can also take too much attention from the people on the street.

but once they decide to do teshuva and become frum, they don’t have to do everything at one time.

a ger on the other hand it’s all or nothing

BT can’t do everything at one time, the same like a ger do not learn everything at one time. Not Jew spent a few years to learn and then make a convergin – became a Jew. This is the reason, why it’s all or nothing (Jew or not Jew)

BT IS a Jew, who is getting back to her/his roots. And whatever BT learn, s/he must to keep from the time s/he learn. I may be very wrong, but I think most of BT started to learn from everyday Halachah ( which for women include the law of tznius) and then got farther.

ps where were you when we discussed masser?

    1. would you be so kind and translate for me in English, I’m not good with Hebrew – I’m BT.

    2. I keep two jobs and not every day open my computer, sorry.

This is not just a problem in Eretz Yisroel it is a bigger problem here in Galus. Just walk the streets of Brooklyn or the Five towns. Women who consider themselves frum and would not walk out of their homes without their $2000 sheitels would walk out with their knees and more showing.

If this is a reality, why husbands and fathers keep quite? Why they let their wife / daughter to be dressed this way?

in reply to: Breach in Tznius: Recent affliction attacking Klal Yisroel #1024994

    it’s worded

“if a person knows something is an avera, and habitually does it anyway, s/he is a rasha”

ps unless they’re a baal teshuva

Does it mean if BT knows this is an avera s/he can keep doing it any way because s/he BT? Really? And for how long? One year? Ten years? Till 120?

IMHO, if person (Jewish or not, observant or not) knows s/he is doing something wrong and keep doing – it is something wrong with person.

I did not go to BY or any other religious school – we did not have it. I’m BT and I’m following what I learn from my daughter ( who is observant 18 years out of her 30), my mentor and different classes I take. I was learn that Jewish woman suppose to cover her knees, elbows and collarbones and I personally follow it. Being a fashion designer I made a new gowns and kind of “creative” alteration for ladies from our community. Till one day. That day someone call me and asked to make gowns for her daughters (15 and 18 yo) and I was agree. Next day I could not believe my eyes – girls ask me to make strapless gowns with small boleros. I gave my word just a day before and did not know what to do now. I asked the shaila and I was told I can do it, because: 1. I’m not only a dressmaker in community, 2. I’m doing this for money, 3. girls will not listen to me any way, because the mother does not care about the way they dressed. So, I did. But I do not want to do this any more, I do not want to help ffb girls to be dressed this way. Every road starts from the first step and not long enough skirt may be this first step. I do not judge anybody – just my thoughts.

What is “SEPERATE WOMEN ONLY minyan”? Does not MINYAN a group of 10 MEN 13yo and older?

If Rav’s wife (an Orthodox Rav) has skirts, which hardly cover her knees, what do you want from her daughters and their friends? It is very sad.

in reply to: Tuition Assistance Guidelines #684848

Being a stranger in this country, I have a few questions:

1.Why every year parents need to pay registration fee for the same student in the same school?

    2. Why every year parents need to pay application fee for the same student in the same school?

Registration + application fee = a couple hundred dollars per student every year.

    4. If most of us try to send our children to good school, to give them a really good education, why our well educated children need to hire a tutor to teach our grandchildren? Why well educated parents not able to teach / to help their own children?

Because their education is not really good or because they do not have time for their children? I’m asking, because my parents were able to help me and my sister and no one of my friends ever had a tutor as well – we had parents for it.

    yoheved,

before you take any actions think about huge work rabbies /lawers etc. did and keep doing to help these boys. Think if your actions will help them or, has v’sholom, will demage the situation rabbies got as of today.

The best we (people who do not know all details of this deal) can do – to daven for boys, to help with $$.

in reply to: Mothers Day: Yes, Or No? #684419

This is the list of holidays not mentioned in Torah ( from calendar I got from Kolel Shomre Hachomos of Jerusalem):

    Labor Day

    Columbus Day

    Veterans Day

    Thanksgiving Day

New Years Day (I think in Jewish calendar will be better to call it “bris anniversary”)

    M.L. King Jr. Day

    President’s Day

    Mother’s Day

    Memorial Day

    Father’s Day

    Independence Day

The only day missed – December’s “big day”.

If according to this calendar Jews celebrate bris anniversary, I’m wondering who’s mother and father days they celebrate.

“notrichenough, if you were more rich you wouldn’t need any gemachs!!!”

    da, I don’t use gemachs, I’m a fashion designer.

And yes, I’m not rich enough to pay for yeshivah for 8 grandchildren, I wish I can afford it. It will be very big help for my son-in-law.

in reply to: Why Wear For People? #692010

Check “Luach.com”. I believe I saw there a gemach for Choson’s ties. If a Kallah can have a gown from a gemach, why Choson can’t get a tie?

da, not at all. I’m really keep learning from everything and everyone.

in reply to: Ripped Off Working In Camps #685739

da: thank you. I was not born in US, so I’m learning about America and Americans.

in reply to: Ripped Off Working In Camps #685735

Does somebody know from what age person can be legally hired? If teenager is under the age, camp owner can pay whatever he wants, because the teenager (with parents permission) and the owner braking the law. In this case you can’t tell camp owner what is the minimum wages s/b. Minimum wages – for legal employee.

I’m working for a big corporation and our corporate office not allowed to hire anybody under age 18 for temporary summer job, no matter what kind of position it is. Very possible, for camp employees law can be different.

in reply to: Ripped Off Working In Camps #685719

Youngbutnotstupid, do you know what mature person doing, when he is not happy with the size of his paycheck? He start looking for another job. Why you stock with kids, if you do not like them, why you need babysitting on a side? Wal-Mart or bakery will pay you more then camp owner. Cleaning lady makes $ 8.00 – 10.00 per hour. Would you like to try? This way you will not changing annoying kids, you will learn some skils and make more money.
