when to start hating when you’re in collage
notasheepMemberI saw the ad. Why is there a character called Gimpel? There was no Yiddish at the time of the Purim story!
notasheepMemberI didn’t gain weight in sem! I actually stayed the same…
Anyway, my roommate in sem became borderline anorexic in the middle of the year, she was obsessed with dieting and doing major exercise the whole time – literally. It got so bad she was actually hospitalised for what was a regular stomach bug. In the end the aim bayit told her to eat properly or she would have to leave sem.
notasheepMemberMaybe something like, “I would like to come back here with you sometime in the future… will you marry me?”
notasheepMemberPerhaps not right in front, but maybe somewhere in the plaza if it’s done right, just a simple proposal and nothing schticky or flashy.
notasheepMemberI see that Squeak has nothing to reply
notasheepMemberif you can get your words out in the order right
notasheepMemberPerhaps she was davening all along for Penina. Perhaps that was the way Hashem wanted it – that Penina needed to lose children so she should feel some of Channah’s pain. Squeak, you can’t ascribe imaginary reasons to the thought processes of two very special and holy women, and nor to females in general. You don’t know why a person does what they do, unless you are that person.
notasheepMemberSqueak, the only reason Penina didn’t lose all of her children after Channah started to have children was because of Channah. So how exactly did Channah become like Penina?
FYI, I would not abuse someone just to make them daven harder…
notasheepMemberI don’t do themes. My kids will be dressed up the same, but I am doing liquor and biscuits, in a nice package. Best part? It can be made in advance!

February 26, 2014 1:40 pm at 1:40 pm in reply to: what is your worst language? what's ur favorite? #1006502notasheepMemberoomis – English is actually a mixture of many languages at its root: Anglo-Saxon , Latin, Greek, Norman (as in 1066), Norse (from the Vikings)and the original Celtic languages that were used by the many different tribes such as Gaelic, Breton, Cornish, Welsh and others. Many of the Celtic languages have all but disappeared, with only a few words here and there that survived until today. I could go on for hours about the origins of the English language but I’m afraid I may bore everyone to death…
Anyway! Favourite language (apart from English, obviously): Italian
Worst language: French!
notasheepMemberHeLeivi – NO! The last thing you want to put on an open burn is anything fabric! It will stick to the top layer of damaged skin and therefore when you try to pull it off it will pull off the skin with it, causing more damage. If you don’y have any gauze in the house, a plastic bag is the best thing you can put on it. Any paramedic will tell you NOT to put a clean white undershirt on, please don’t guess!
Just for reference, most gauze dressings are made of plastic…
notasheepMemberBeen really busy…
notasheepMemberHealth – where would it be underneath clothing? Most minor burns are on the hands (think cooking burns). How did a minor burn get through clothes and yet is still a minor burn? If it was done with clothes off at the time, but is not a bad burn, a simple plaster (band-aid) will be enough to stop it rubbing and being uncomfortable. A dressing is to stop an open wound from sticking to clothing, like I said.
He didn’t write that, I did. It was directed to him, not you
notasheepMemberHealth, as someone who has burnt herself on numerous occasions (mostly in the kitchen), I can tell you that minor burns do not need a dressing. Run under cold water for long enough and it won’t even blister. If a burn is so bad it needs a dressing on it then you need to go to A+E cause in case of infection. If it blisters but is not an open wound, it does not need a dressing, just something to protect the blister and stop it from bursting. Burns that require dressings (or the plastic bag until you get to A+E)can be nasty, open burns where the top layer of skin has been completely damaged, and this is what I am referring to.
notasheepMemberI wasn’t saying that you shouldn’t put a proper burn dressing on it, I was merely mentioning what you can do at home if you don’t have immediate access to burn dressings. Not everyone has a fully stocked first aid kit at home. And if the burn is bad enough that you need to put a proper dressing on it, then you should be going to A+E as soon as possible anyway.
notasheepMemberHow about being realistic? The ones where someone is kidnapped or recruited by the CIA to infiltrate a terrorist cell, or becomes a secret detective on the trail of some crime… come on, that never happens! It’s one thing in secular fiction but in Jewish fiction? Please.
And why is there no such thing as a Jewish fantasy story?
notasheepMemberNo it didn’t make me laugh, that’s why I wasn’t sure. I don’t get this kind of humour. Give me sharp wit and sarcasm any day.
notasheepMembervashtischwartz, many people do not have gauze in their house, the next best thing is a plastic shopping bag – they have tiny holes in that let the wound breathe. Believe me, I did first aid and the paramedic specifically said to put a plastic bag on it.
notasheepMemberI often feel that nursery teachers get very left out – we are setting very young children on the right path to Torah, why should Beis Yaakov teachers be any more heroic? Please don’t forget about us!
February 19, 2014 1:45 pm at 1:45 pm in reply to: Why is child marriage being promoted on this site? #1004778notasheepMemberI am still my parents’ child, and I’m 25. My mother is still my grandmother’s child, and she’s in her 50s. It doesn’t matter how old your kids are, they will always be your children. So I doubt they were referring to ‘child’ as a young child.
notasheepMemberIs this some kind of purim shtick thread?
notasheepMemberThe word sushi is Japanese for rice. So it may have been referring to the stalks of the rice plant…
notasheepMemberHe does sing here and there. My husband actually met him at a chasuna in London last year.
notasheepMemberWhere do you live? We had no snow here but I saw pictures from Monsey and it was literally 3 ft deep.
notasheepMemberIf it’s a very bad burn you should (after soaking it under running cool water) dress the area in clear plastic wrap or a polythene bag, since this won’t stick to the damaged skin. DO NOT PUT A BANDAGE ON IT – this will stick to the skin and make it peel off when you take the bandage off.
notasheepMemberI was lost in the dark and I never saw the sign… please don’t punish me
notasheepMemberI had mine done when I was 6. So if it was painful, I should remember the experience. I don’t. It stings for a couple of seconds and then goes away. I agree with BaalHabooze. My girls look beautiful without earrings, and I have the added easiness to my life of not having to look for lost earrings or fret about holes closing up.
As a nursery teacher, I have seen many girls who have lost an earring but their mother leaves the other one in so the hole doesn’t close up. Why make life harder for yourself.
notasheepMemberNot as a baby cause then you give yourself the extra work of looking after the holes, putting on spirit and turning the earrings. Once they are old enough to understand that they have to take care of their earrings is best.
notasheepMemberUnfortunately, the people who really need to hear this message don’t think it applies to them. That’s the way it has always been.
notasheepMemberPesukim for names only work for Hebrew names. You might be lucky with a yiddish name, but remember that there was no such thing as yiddish names when David Hamelech wrote tehillim, so it will be difficult to find one.
notasheepMemberThis is all very mysterious… unless he has bribed one of the mods to hide his identity, or maybe his profile was removed after his last post, which was a day ago, before anyone tried to go to his profile…
Anyway if you want to know the year of my birth, it is 1892. I’m either very old, or a ghost. You choose.
notasheepMember+3.14000000000000000000000000 😉
notasheepMemberI’m with you! Where is JMH, he can help us!
notasheepMemberHow about 3.141592653589?
Sorry, just showing off. Why can’t I remember the other things, like where I put my shopping?
notasheepMemberI honestly don’t know why someone would choose to be normal. Shudder. Being slightly daft is so much fun!
January 28, 2014 7:04 pm at 7:04 pm in reply to: The Betrayal and The Outcast *WARNING-CONTAINS SPOILERS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK* #1016675notasheepMemberNo idea! The Outcast only came out in English about four months ago so it’s not likely to be for at least a year
notasheepMemberbecause being normal is boring
notasheepMemberGood, now life will get more interesting for you again.
January 27, 2014 8:49 pm at 8:49 pm in reply to: The Betrayal and The Outcast *WARNING-CONTAINS SPOILERS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK* #1016673notasheepMemberYou make it sound so simple for how life can make sense…
January 27, 2014 1:55 pm at 1:55 pm in reply to: The Betrayal and The Outcast *WARNING-CONTAINS SPOILERS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK* #1016671notasheepMemberTAOM – there will definitely be a third so don’t worry!
notasheepMemberWritersoul, maybe you like it, but that doesn’t make it beautiful. Please, as subjective as music is, you cannot call rock, heavy metal or garage beautiful. It’s just noise. When something has been composed with real feeling, you can be transported somewhere else. When you can match up a song with a scene in a play that fits the scene and really makes people feel as if they were there and not just watching a play, then that has been composed with real feeling. I know what I am talking about because I have done that – put together a soundtrack for a play that really worked and made people a part of it.
January 26, 2014 10:06 pm at 10:06 pm in reply to: The Betrayal and The Outcast *WARNING-CONTAINS SPOILERS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK* #1016669notasheepMemberSorry, 29! Can’t we have some sort of code in the site where spoilers are invisible unless the cursor hovers over it?
You’re clear now. We put a warning in the title 🙂 – 29
notasheepMemberfroggie, what’s normal? Normal is boring…
notasheepMemberWritersoul: there, you’ve said it yourself. The Jewish music that is composed with real feeling brings out real feeling in me. But there are some songwriters who will just take any words from tanach and put them to any style music cause they want to sell a good song. Don’t get me started on zochreini nah (the catchy, fast one, not Miami Boys’), but that is a case in point. You cannot call that song ‘Jewish’. What I was talking about was purposely copying a style of music because it’s fast/beaty/catchy etc, not composing original music that may sound like another style. When the melody fits the words and you know that some thought went into that, then that song can be called Jewish.
Mench, don’t you think the way some Jewish teenagers jump up and down at ‘Jewish’ music concerts because of the style of music is just wrong, and smacks of pop fanculture?
January 26, 2014 4:55 pm at 4:55 pm in reply to: The Betrayal and The Outcast *WARNING-CONTAINS SPOILERS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK* #1016668notasheepMemberNo, Sanpal died in the ambush at Batar ravine, which happened in the first book, but I don’t think the gunpowder was mentioned. New plot lines are ok, why would we have heard about the powder before? But for a character who is present in the storyline to suddenly have a baby, without any clues or hints that it is going to happen at some point is just odd. And it happens twice? But like I said, that’s my only issue.
Please be more sensitive when giving away information from books by putting an alert of some kind before doing so. Thanks – 29
notasheepMembershe wasn’t making fun of mental illness, she was making fun of insanity. There’s a difference.
notasheepMemberPringles are one at a time. That way they last longer. I also like Kettle Chips, but if you want really amazing crisps try Simba chips (from South Africa), they have great flavours that are all kosher.
notasheepMemberGoq are you being serious?
