PYid.
Just for your info Hamodia is officially affiliated with the Aguda who although not zionistic are n’t anti the way you make it sound.
I did hear that quote from Reb Yakov. it came as a reaction to a certian piece they ran at soem point actually!
October 28, 2010 1:27 pm at 1:27 pm in reply to: Yated, Hamodia, Jewish Press? What Is Your Choice? #707557not IMemberHamodia is by far the BEST! yated is sdo difficult to read with the flippping you have to do inorder to read teh end of an article.. almost always 70+ pages forward.
Mishpacha has weird articles in my opinion!
Hamodia is the way to go. As most things are the older, the better..
not IMemberThere was a boy named Ned
Who never went to bed
He would stay up all night
In the morn was nice and bright
One day he dropped dead!
Had to share my sisters.. From 5th Grade.. was the teachers favorite!
not IMemberScams are all over. I work in a field related to travel. I receievd an email from someone in soem tiny town in Europe someowhere.. I thought it wasa scam but I replied.. for the sake of it.. I was surprised when they responded but once we had further correspondence I felt it was getting fishy so I googled the phone number on the bottom.
It turns out the way these scammers work is that they give you a credit card number to charge in advance. Once you charge it but before it is authorized they refute the charge. Then once it goes through again they reverse the charge again. Basically they earn from you..
I would be very sceptical of any financial thing that sounds more secure than what you’d expect!..
not IMemberTo answer the original question about who defines a ben torah..
Someone who is an erliche yid. Someone who understands ‘lehavdil bein yisroel l’amim’ he is proud to be a Yid. By having that pride he lives with the torah all the time and is not tempted to go even a small distance from the torah. By doing that he will seak the advice of rabbanim at all times and will have an Ahavas Yisroel- if he is a ‘harry,’ ‘ben torah,’ ‘brisker,’ ‘tuna beigel,’ BP Totty’ etc..
bekitzur someone who brings Koved Shomayim to this world..
not IMemberJust thinking.. You want to date a guy who is undecided or not passionate for a or against a tv. You want a guy who will appreciate you for who you are.. growing.. But where do you think he will come in there .. growing but possibly you will hold him back..
not IMemberI am not sure which “emeser” Chassidim you are talking about..
Aren’t they supposed to get triple zero haircuts?
Not sure where this ties in anyway!
Can you quit the business about spelling..
October 22, 2010 5:06 pm at 5:06 pm in reply to: Are the Reform and Conservative Still Jewish? #755253not IMemberThese days the reform, conservative marry anyone. Mamzer, eishes ish (due to lack of kosher get)
How would their children be Jewish then. They make invalid conversions and basically hold by a few of the mitzvos..
not IMemberI guess it would be similar to an eiruv. Some people hold by them bichlal, others not at all. So one is under the hashgacha of so-and-so..
Some people are makpid about washing even on ‘mezonos bread’ etc..
not IMemberyecheskel- What Tzippi meant to say was that today a bochur who is not in yeshive has a MUCH harder time to remain Erlich! he doesn’t have the insulation of the yeshiva velt. Therefore it is harder to find a good, erlich boy who is working!
(In the times of our parents it was a different story.. The world was a different place!)
not IMemberLimud Torah is the only thing that allows a person to live a life of that- Torah. In todays society there needs to be something to comabt th tuma. Torah is the thing that keeps us going.
There is nothing as important, saying that would you only want to be someone who involves themselves in something like that for a mere hr or too a day! “I save the world for 2hrs a day.. teh other time i spend keeping myself alive..”
Arguable I guess..
October 19, 2010 4:59 pm at 4:59 pm in reply to: Why do some wives (newlyweds) act like Mashgichim to their husbands? #701964not IMemberThere is something about a person marrying the boy/girl that is meant to be their spouse. So you keep your mouth shut… respect him anyway! Don’t they say that there are adjustments to make when you get married. This is one I guess. I am a married woman who gets up earlier or the same time as my husband..
To tell you the truth it bothered me at the begining.. than I thought about how he has to concentrate all day and a few extra minutes mean alot!
not IMemberMine used to be candy corns!
Now my husband makes fun that all I eat is cake and cookies..
not IMemberTalking of the eiruv.. Plenty of Machlokes about that..
yay there is an eiruv but it is just another subject of Machlokes.
There are people that think Eiruvin bichlal are not so good cause when you go somewhere with out one you carry by mistake!
not IMemberThis is my favorite topic. I grew up out of town and wish I could go back. Quality and family life is worth so much more.. My mother grew up in BP and whenever she visits she thanks HaShem for not bringing us up there. WHo needs a shul on every corner? Who needs 5 cafes, 5 restaurants and 12 pizza stores in a 3 mile radius? Maybe that’s why obesity is in the rise even in the Frum circles!!
OK Shidduchim don’t necessarily come easily to an out-of towner.. Eventhough some only want them!! (more don’t want to think of it) That wont even hint to the mind set of a large size population there!!!!!
*Side note I am married to a boro parker who doesn’t stop raving about NY…
not IMemberThe story goes like this..
My uncle was ready to propose to my Israeli aunt(then she didn’t speak such good English).
He asks her ” Will you take my hand in marriage?” She replied “What does Marriage mean!!!
not IMemberThe story is that my mother told my father when he picked her up for a date that she didn’t eat supper yet. My father said politely “That’s OK I will wait!!” She had to explain to my father, no when a girl says that it means she wants to go out to eat!!!
They are married for 30 yrs KAH
October 8, 2010 3:51 pm at 3:51 pm in reply to: What does this mean, its a quote from the Kotzker. #699376not IMemberI am a girl and I definitely heard about him!
not IMemberRegarding getting a job in the market today from a secon rate college- The Frum firms/ companies don’t neccesarily seem to be too picky!
No opinion if that is good or bad!
October 8, 2010 3:08 pm at 3:08 pm in reply to: Do they teach girls how to cook in Seminary? #700412not IMemberMy high school B’kiyus teacher always stressed that learning Rashi was the KEY to Yiras Shomayim!
Yes if one learns the Meforshim… they are receiving the best lessons in life. They will then know how to prioritise. They will decide when the time is to make a fancy cheese cake with a zebra effect or rather be busy with the kids.
not IMemberEver heard of the phrase “Chill Zich”?!!
before Yom Kippur and you could feel the heat in these exchanges!
not IMemberI am post hih school and would love a uniform. Not for the reason of tznius but rather due to the issue of not finding clothes that I like. If you don’t wear pencil skirts for the reason being discusseed you are left wwith the pleated skirt you could have bought 5 years ago. Recently I was asked shidduch information about a girl. After being asked how she dresses i told her she is from out of town.. She said so you mean she wears pleated skirts and not straight… I didn’t want to say ” what I meant is that she dresses in tzniusdik way..
September 15, 2010 7:58 pm at 7:58 pm in reply to: Why don't heimeishe ladies use baby slings to schlep babies? #696191not IMemberThey are great when travelling. In airports shleeping suit cases, carry-ons, hat boxes they are great! Who said there is something not tznius about it. More likely there is a problem with pushing around a RED carriage!!
You must be pretty thick not to undertand that not a frum woman could be a frum man! I guess you think only women are looking here!
