These air bags who portray themselves as some sort of political honchos for the heimishe community, are nothing more than a bunch goof balls who speak for no one but themselves. Time and time again, when they supported some leftist, they are repeatedly embarassed on election day when their candidate gets about 1% of the vote in the heimishe districts.
All they seek, other than fame and attention, is gelt from whichever candidate most enriches them.
NaysbergMemberThe engagement should be as short as possible. (Unless you are Chasidish and will not be seeing your fiance.)
NaysbergMemberThat’s only necessary if there is a reason for doubt. (Like Reform marriages in the mix.)
NaysbergMemberIt’s too long.
NaysbergMemberHaRav Karelitz’s geirim are generally uninterested in obtaining Israeli citizenship.

Ask Rav Shmuel Kaminetzky shlit”a (or any of the other rabbonim.)
They are easily reachable and will be happy to answer your kasha.

And, btw, there is a video of Rav Cohen and other rabbonim with 40 yungerleit at the Trenton statehouse protesting the toeiva bill.
NaysbergMemberShas is run on the word of Chacham Ovadia. Period. And Rav Ovadia has taken a hard-line in the sand on no draft.
January 25, 2013 5:08 pm at 5:08 pm in reply to: Blaming the Same Gender Unions: A Personal Rant #927614NaysbergMemberRav Shmuel Kaminetzky later signed that letter after those three Rabbonim signed it. There is another copy of the letter with Rav Shmuel’s signature on that same site. If you can’t find it, I can post the link later. (Can’t easily do links from here.)

January 25, 2013 11:28 am at 11:28 am in reply to: English is Absent and Math Doesn't Count at Brooklyn's Biggest Yeshivas #924947NaysbergMemberThe point is that the average Brooklyn Litvish Yeshiva grad knows better English and math than the average NYC public school grad.
That’s a pretty good compliment for Yeshivas whose main focus is on Torah scholarship.
January 25, 2013 3:40 am at 3:40 am in reply to: Blaming the Same Gender Unions: A Personal Rant #927607NaysbergMemberThere is a letter signed by Rav Shmuel Kaminetzky and Rav Simcha Bunim Cohen (Rav Miller’s grandson-in-law) and other rabbonim asking yidden to go to Trenton to protest NJ’s legistature consideration of a toeiva marriage bill.
January 25, 2013 3:36 am at 3:36 am in reply to: Blaming the Same Gender Unions: A Personal Rant #927606NaysbergMemberRav Miller wrote letters to the editor of the New York Times protesting toeiva. He organized the group “Jews for Morality”. He sent over 20 of his mispallelim out to a public protests against toieva with representitives of other organizations when the NYC Council was considering a “toeiva rights” bill. He advised mispallelim who to vote for. One year he told his mispallelim that he spent Erev Yom Kippur writing letters protesting immorality. Another time he asked people to write letters to the NYC Council protesting a toeive bill under consideration.
NaysbergMemberIf you admittedly cannot refute torah613’s point, you ought to concede it.
Additionally, the religious aspects are indeed part and parcel and very relevant to the discussion.
NaysbergMemberI notice that akuperma ONLY posts on threads in the CR when they are one of the top five threads. IOW, the 5 threads that appear on the main page. He never posts on a thread when it isn’t on the top 5, even if someone addresses a comment directly to him. Obviously he never looks at the front page of the CR and only clicks on threads from the main page of YWN.
January 25, 2013 12:02 am at 12:02 am in reply to: Blaming the Same Gender Unions: A Personal Rant #927604NaysbergMemberVarious gedolim in fact have protested the abortion decisions, Rav Avigdor Miller most prominently perhaps, and have further encouraged the tzibbur to protest the same.
December 31, 2012 9:34 am at 9:34 am in reply to: Picking Up A Neighbor's Phone Calls on a Scanner #917141NaysbergMemberThe cheaper cordless systems use the lower frequency for its handset-to-base (usually in the 900s which are accessible on scanners) because it is cheaper to manafacture lower frequency transmitters and they use less power. (And the handsets use a battery as opposed to the base which has an ac power supply.) You can find out what frequency your cordless system uses by looking up its FCC ID on the bottom of the phone with its FCC regulatory filing on fcc.gov. Its a federal code violation to listen to cell calls but not cordless. (Not that it should be done anyways.)
December 30, 2012 8:23 pm at 8:23 pm in reply to: Picking Up A Neighbor's Phone Calls on a Scanner #917132NaysbergMemberNot all 900 Mhz, 2.4 Ghz or 5.8 Ghz phones are digital. If it is, it should say something like DSS (Digital Spread Spectrum). Otherwise it may be analog and picked up on a scanner.
Also, even if the phone is called a 900Mhz, 2.4Ghz or 5.8Ghz, it may be only operating on that frequency from the base to the handset. The handset to base could transmit on a lower frequency, allowing a cheap scanner to pick up one side of the conversation.
It’s best to make sure it is digital. The newer DECT 6.0 are all digital as well as some of the older models with the other frequencies.

December 30, 2012 12:10 am at 12:10 am in reply to: Validity of Vilna Gaon's Cherem Against Chassidim #915949NaysbergMember1) The cherem was applied against certain people practicing certain specific practices. a) Those people no longer exist (a cherem does not carry over to as of yet unborn children) and b) those specific practices are no longer practiced by anyone. (Even in the absence of point “b”, point “a” still applies and is sufficient on its own.)
2) The gedolei talmidim of the Gra recognized the error of the cherem in the first place and recognize it is inapplicable. This is evidenced by the fact that the spiritual heirs of the Gra today completely intermarry their children with Chasidim’s children, they learn in Chasidish yeshivos and accept Chasidish bochorim and yungerleit into their Litvish yeshivos, and sit and work with Chasidish Gedolim on Torah and communal matters on the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah and other Torah bodies that are fully integrated with both Chasidish gedolim and Litvish gedolim who are followers of the Vilna Gaon.
NaysbergMemberOn Dec. 25, Yidden mourn the rivers of Jewish blood spilled in the name of a false god. We mourn the suffering we had on this accursed date throughout 2,000 years. We remember the galochim inciting the masses at mass to kill Jews. The Jews who they accuse of deicide. And we are repulsed by the bloody holiday lights prevelent in our midst celebrating this bloody history.
NaysbergMemberAnyone remember Glatt Chow?
NaysbergMemberzsdad: If that were true, in fact we’d be halachicly required to give you tzedaka to maintain that lifestyle should you lose your high income.
But we are not even talking about a rich man having a drop in income. We are talking about a poor man who became poorer and now cannot afford even the little he previously had.
It would be cruel and unjewish to brush him off and tell him to move elsewhere. And unhalachic.
NaysbergMemberWhat is the proper size (0, 1, 2) haircut for a Ben Torah?
Also, what is the going rate of a haircut? And what is a typical tipping amount?
NaysbergMemberR.T.: Nowhere has shmendrik insulted your rabbonim or mekubalim.
December 27, 2012 8:52 pm at 8:52 pm in reply to: Some notes about what it means to be truly poor… #1001025NaysbergMemberOngoing governmental rental assistance is unavailable in most of the U.S. Besides, a poor person should not be thrown out of town since he cannot afford to live in the area and he is G-d forbid told to move elsewhere.
December 27, 2012 8:32 pm at 8:32 pm in reply to: Some notes about what it means to be truly poor… #1001018NaysbergMemberGovernment does not accept any new Section 8 cases to pay rent (unless you are a battered woman) in NYC and other places.
NaysbergMemberWith a kindle or phone you miss the kedusha of the words in the siddur.
NaysbergMemberRambam paskens Christianity is avoda zora for goyim. (Some of the achronim living in European countries couldn’t write this fact, too, since the church censors didn’t allow them to publish it.)
December 27, 2012 5:46 pm at 5:46 pm in reply to: Some notes about what it means to be truly poor… #1001006NaysbergMemberRent (or mortgage) is a killer expense that government does not help with. Section 8 is closed to new receipients, and has been so for well over a decade. (At least in NYC.)
NaysbergMemberAnd there was zero “shas hadchak” for R. Sacks. His predecessor as Chief Rabbi skipped the Royal Wedding (and wasn’t beheaded.)
NaysbergMemberThe Noda B’Yehuda paskens that shituf is pure avoda zora even for a goy. Everyone agrees it is avoda zora for a Yid. So, clearly, a Yid cannot go into any church as the shituf they espouse is pure avoda zora for him.
December 27, 2012 2:36 pm at 2:36 pm in reply to: Jews protesting against a job fair! How low will they fall? #915856NaysbergMemberThe Czar’s shmad draft is no different than the proposed Zionist shmad draft of dragging yeshivaleit out of the Beis Medrash and into the Zionist Army.
NaysbergMemberrd: You’re incorrect. The previous Chief Rabbi skipped the wedding (i.e. Church service) of Prince Charles and Diana. Unlike R. Sacks.
NaysbergMemberBy Royal Command, Her Majesty the Queen commands the Chief Rabbi to bow before the cross.
Little different than commanding him to attend a church for a christian worship service.
December 26, 2012 6:31 pm at 6:31 pm in reply to: Jews protesting against a job fair! How low will they fall? #915834NaysbergMemberzd: And most of the zionists came after WWII and even after ’48.
NaysbergMemberFor anyone positing that no one dare consider being a BT a point of consideration in deciding against dating or marrying a prospective boy or girl, presumably you similarly posit that being a convert to Judaism dare not be considered in determining whether to date or marry someone.
NaysbergMemberWhich histrocial time period Yushka Pundrik lived in, is not know with certainty by anyone (despite any claims otherwise.) The early Christians fabricated a large portion of their history, especially of their leaders. And during Yushke’s lifetime, he was no one especially notable. Just one of a bunch of tiny cult leaders that were pervasive at that time.
NaysbergMemberSam2: The reason mentioned by Avi K above is a legitimate reason to not marry (even if there may be good reasons to overlook that negative.)
NaysbergMemberIf someone unfolded the New York Times and started reading the business or sports section during Modim, would you feel that no one should be bothered (much like they shouldn’t be bothered by the web surfer during Modim)?
NaysbergMemberSo people should date (and marry) baal teshuvos even if they are looking for a frum from birth?
NaysbergMemberWho said it is looked at differently? It is looked at the same.
NaysbergMemberzsdad: Rav Moshe never did any such thing, such as later invalidate witnesses from an Orthodox wedding.
NaysbergMemberRav Eliashev and others paskened a Get from a husband with this type of prenup constitutes a Get Me’usa, and thus an invalid Get. She remains married to him even after the Get.
NaysbergMemberHe is definitly correct that she should not be “attracting to others” (as he put it.)
