1) How did you raise enough money to cover all your spending money in sem?
2) What cell phone plan is the best in EY in terms of service and price?
nannyMemberAll I know about Chedvas is that its shana bet for American girls, however they might also have quite a number of Israeli girls going there for shana alef. I’m in twelth grade now and I have a friend my age who is planning on going to Chedvas next year (they are one of the only sems who allow girls living in Israel for some reason). My friend told me they don’t have tests or homework (I could check that with her again if you want)and they are mostly a BY crowd- more so that Pninim.
Thats all I know- hope it helps… 🙂
nannyMemberI think she’s talking about AtereT- it makes more sense with Darchei Binah, no?
nannyMemberMy favorites are Handel (water music), Tchaikovsky (nutcracker suite) and Vivaldi (spring).
My more modern-day favorites are Yanni (one man’s dream) and Yiruma (a river flows in you). (Yanni and Yiruma are very classical-style.)
I LOVE classical music!! 😀
nannyMemberThanks everyone!!
2 people in my family need makeup done; myself and my mother. After calling a lot of your recommended people, and discovering that they all charge an average of like $80, I booked with Esther Levy who only charges $45. I called 4 references and they all loved her. So I guess we’ll stick to her- hope she really is as good as she sounds… I’ll let you know if she is! If anyone else has had experience with her you’re more than welcome to let me know!
nannyMemberThanks so much. Do you know how much she charges by any chance? I can’t reach her.
nannyMemberOh awesome– do you have her number?
nannyMemberThanks to all! Has anyone heard of a makeup artist with the last name of Taub?
And has anyone been to Adam’s? I’m hearing good things about them… though it’s not a Jewish place…
nannyMemberOh… That’s annoying. You’ve tried it?
nannyMemberSo if I go aboard, I’m not considered part of an American collage?
Lets say I’ll get credits through Touro next year; I think Touro tuition is aprox $900 for your seminary year (if your planning on taking credits). Could I get a collage scholarship? If I could, would it only go toward the $900 I’m paying Touro or could it also go toward the rest of seminary tuition??
nannyMemberIf I apply to online scholarship programs, do I also need to be enrolled in a collage (or get collage credits through the seminary) in order to receive scholarships from types of programs like scholarshipexperts.com (they say they are collage scholarships but could seminary be considered my first year of collage?) thanks… sorry it my thoughts aren’t so clear…
nannyMemberhttp://www.oorah.org/tuition/login.asp
Why does it say they are not taking any more applications?? I’m so confused!!
nannyMemberdo all seminaries take these scholarships?
nannyMemberI’m not really understanding. Which scholarship programs did you apply to? I just have to find them online? And the amount you got covered your full tuition plus more?
nannyMemberIs it true that you can only get a scholarship if you’re an amazing student? Is there any good scholarship I could get without that?
nannyMemberAre you trying to get full tuition coverage? I don’t think that’s possible…

nannyMemberHi! I just discovered that I’m going to have my interview for Seminar with Mrs. Flam pretty soon.
Does anyone remember what types of questions are asked? I hear there are some sems that ask VERY wierd questions… and I would need to prepare for them.
If you remember any specific questions that would be VERY helpful. (Weird or not.)
And is there any specific traits Seminar is looking for?
nannyMemberYummy, rugelach! Are they the soft or flaky type? How long do they take to make?
nannyMemberYes, Obama. He is currently working day and night through dark and light, rain, hail, sleet, snow, etc. TRYING with all his might to finally find a solution to the shidduch crisis.
nannyMemberMy sister’s getting married soon! 🙂
nannyMemberWhat we learned in Halacha class is that if it looks like bread and tastes like bread– guess what, it’s bread. If it’s eaten with a meal-like filling (tuna, cream cheese, egg, etc.) no one can get away with calling it a snack. Technically, if you take 2 slices of marble cake and eat them with tuna in between, you have to make a hamotzi. We were taught that really people should wash on pizza, because its generally eaten as a meal, whether you have 1 slice or 2, and it has a “meal-like filling” (cheese and sauce)but that’s a machlokes. Even it a person has a certain amount of, say, cake (don’t know the amount- but a lot) they even have to wash on that (even if its just for a “snack”).
As you see, this gets complicated. I suggest you ask your rabbi how he paskins.
nannyMemberAnyone know anyone specific in Brooklyn who does this stuff? I hear there is one on Kings Highway and east 19th… anyone used her?
nannyMemberWell, why don’t you share the doughnut recipe with us? I was actually looking for a good one…
nannyMemberThanks… why wouldn’t you use them though?
nannyMemberI hope so! Thanks a ton 🙂
nannyMemberWell what if you can’t read properly under pressure? Do they understand? And is it a big issue if you can’t translate something?
Do you know who does interviews for NY? Thanks so much!
nannyMemberLaffy taffy wrapper:
What do you call something that makes music on your head?
a headband HAHAHA
🙁 No I’m not exactly the biggest fan of corny jokes lol
nannyMemberI was actually about to start a topic just like this. I applied to Seminar and I would really like to know what the interview will be like!
ATT. SEMINAR GIRLS: What type of questions are asked? Do they make you read? If so, what? Like just Chumash text or Rashi, Ramban… And the interviewer is male or female? Intimidating? Do they mostly want to ask lots of questions or get into a conversation with you and let you do all the talking?
loveparty, did you apply to Seminar too?
nannyMemberAnd what type of grades do you need to get into BYA?
nannyMemberOn Black Friday only electronics are on sale? If I need a gown for a simcha would I be able to get it on a Black Friday sale?
nannyMemberloveparty, Nachlas is a great place. Yes I have heard that it is very yeshivish… and I think you need a pretty high average to get in. They are looking for amazing girls, the location is a dream, and the dorms are gorgeous. That’s just about all I know about Nachlas.
nannyMemberbygirly, that’s actually really funny because I was ALMOST 100% sure that I know you too. Hints, perhaps?
Here’s my hint… I think we should take you to a rabbi! 🙂
nannyMemberThere’s not much more to be said 🙂 candy613 so graciously helped us out so much! So I would recommend you read through these 4 pages and then ask if you have any more specific questions. This thread is FULL of info on Ateres! Check it out!
nannyMemberAha– does that mean that there ARE girls with those problems?
nannyMemberYes good question, bygirly (if I may say so). I’m looking for the same info on Seminar. HELP?!?!
nannyMemberJust you wait and see. Obama will somehow find a way to repeal the amendment that states that a president can only have 2 terms. This guy found a way to somehow pass an unconstitutional law that requires mandatory healthcare, and more. He’s capable of anything and next thing you know, he’ll be president for the next 30 years, chas v’sholom. Goodbye America.

nannyMemberWell, one thing that I do know about Meohr (from a girl who is there this year) is that R’ Greenwald made it very clear that no iPods will be tolerated. (with or without Jewish music.) That’s what I was told anyway.
nannyMemberHold on– your in seminary? And online? Am I missing something here?
I never knew Meohr has internet!!
nannyMemberLahav is a 4-month program. you get back home in time for 2nd semester in collage.
nannyMemberA friend of mine who is a really good girl is applying to MMY. I don’t know much about it, but it really is out of town, with really nice girls. I also heard that it’s quite Zionistic. Good luck 🙂
nannyMemberHow many girls are in Seminar this year?
nannyMemberHi! I will also IM”H be applying to Seminar! YAYY! What’s the difference between Seminar and Ateres? They sound very similar… And are the dorms nice?
nannyMemberOK, not sure if my past post went thru… Candy613, do you know these 2 girls who where head counselors in a day camp in your area? (your age)
nannyMemberI agree- three cheers for CANDY!
nannyMemberWell, I might be very wrong, but did you attend either the 9th or 10th High School that you have mentioned in an earlier post? (page 2)
Also what was your Ateres interview like?
nannyMembercandy, can I ask you a weird question?
You think I should apply to Tiferes really really?
And why?
+, I think I know you…
nannyMemberahavas_yisroel, sounds like Darchei Binah might be just what she is looking for! Maybe also check out Meohr and Bnos Chava. She should talk to a seminary adviser in school (if her school provides).
helpmeoutplease- ever considered Meohr? Sounds like the girls there would suit what you are looking for. I’m surprised you know someone who had a bad experience in Darchei Binah- it’s supposed to be really good.
nannyMemberLots of girls from my school go to Darchei Bina! It’s supposed to be a great place. I hear lots of great stuff about it. How academic and BY does your granddaughter want?
