Dear Milhouse,
This is confusing. I will write as if you made these points. If I got you wrong, just assert your opinion.
1) Who could more truthfully claim “I am the state”, Charles V or Donald Trump? (Slight spoiler alert the President has made the point without saying it.)
2) What matters is if he is a legal king. Therefore a puppet king is also a king. A president with vast powers is not. I do not think that would hold up to an inquiry of our Torah sources.
3) Because the law allows it, the advice in Mishlei does not apply. WOW!!! I could think of many reasons not to do things that are lawful.n0mesorahParticipantDear Milhouse,
My mistake. Make that poetic justice. If I had the genius of our President, that first comment would be sarcasm. Alas, forgive my grotesque blunder. But, I still have no reason to hold him to any standard. He could hold himself to his own standard.n0mesorahParticipantThe main is always relative to what the extremes of the stream appears to be. When standing on the head is no longer considered extreme, it becomes mainstream.
n0mesorahParticipantDear Milhouse,
I’m not sure that there can be any concept of a governing body, without the concept of respect. Your opinion is that respect is completely subjective? Like, if I decide he deserves my respect than I should give it even though he has no idea why I respect him? You seem very sure of yourself. And I have no idea what you mean.Anyways……….. It sure seems like our President does not think of himself as a public servant. Many great kings felt beholden to their realm. In your opinion, what makes a king a king? Pharaoh was called Pharaoh.
n0mesorahParticipantHowever, sponsored content are deemed essential. Migrant workers were brought in from Honduras to fill in for the sick.
n0mesorahParticipantDear Health,
I have no idea what you could be referencing. You seem to be a liberal, just not like those liberals. You can stand up to whomever you like, I am just drinking coffee.n0mesorahParticipantDear Little,
Agreed.
Dear Milhouse,
Feel free? A lot of comments here do not care for personal accountability. And to Reb Eliezer too. From an historical perspective, President Trump is as wealthy and as powerful as just about any king mentioned in TaNaCh. Even puppet kings have the din of a melech.
n0mesorahParticipantDear Gadol,
Whoooooops! Icee is Quick Check. I think food is pretty much off the table. There is no smoothies in the WaWa I went to. Excellent view of the mountains, though.n0mesorahParticipantDear Jersey,
Forget the news. Do the math. From a geographic perspective the only country worse off is Russia. Even Europe as a whole is better off.n0mesorahParticipantDear Gadol,
There are no slurpees (Correction Icees.) in wawa now. Most of them have a nice outdoor area. Especially away from the cities.n0mesorahParticipantDear Milhouse,
That is an extremely liberal interpretation of justice.May 17, 2020 12:27 am at 12:27 am in reply to: Lawsuit in NJ to force the state to allow worship service #1861292n0mesorahParticipantBut we need to sue the NJ Governor to maintain our rights!
n0mesorahParticipantDear Jersey,
Which news outlet one follows does not matter here., It only matters if they cannot do math themselves. Take any official count, and tell us how this country is in good shape. Additionally, a lot of the testing is reactive, not proactive. (There is still no cohesive plan how to test and track cases.) Factor in the geography of the various hot spots, and the country as a whole is in a really bad spot. It seems like it is up to regional groups. (Like the northeast Governors joining together. The Great Lake Region and the Pacific Coast States.) Or each Governor for themeself.n0mesorahParticipantDear Common,
If so, we should end the conversation on this thread.n0mesorahParticipantDear Defend,
Being blunt or sharp, is not an indicator of hate. Lack of patience, maybe. An attempt to highlight the point, likely.n0mesorahParticipantMaybe the first date could be much shorter, and walk an empty neighborhood.
Or, maybe go to a WaWa. Find one with a lot of grass and a good view. They are somewhat empty now.
An, older single called me today. I’ll ask him.n0mesorahParticipantDear Joseph,
Is that an opinion? Rhetoric? Sarcasm? Why do I always feel like I am missing the joke? If we want to talk sensibly about the pandemic, we should reference scientists, not politicians.n0mesorahParticipantDear Joseph,
they may even have something a about limiting guests on your patio. This is efsher l’varer. Maybe the contract is available online.n0mesorahParticipantDear Pekak,
Exactly! Success in this endeavor, is incidental. Not recurring, throughout the ages. And definitely not through out the land. But to say only one of these matches in my ancestry was successful, is a bit harsh.n0mesorahParticipantDear Akuperma,
A President is supposed to be able to listen to expert opinions. He should not be watching television all day. It seems people buy a media narrative, way more than the media story. The american media downplayed the severity of this virus, and helped delay the response. Go look at the facts on the ground on any day in march, and compare it with the news cycle of that day.n0mesorahParticipantDear Health,
Please tell me where this comes from. Very few conservative thinkers write about these topics. (Why? Maybe because they are true conservatives? It is a vexing question!) If you are a liberal, than universalism is at or near the center of your worldview. Therefore, liberals are always getting caught up in what others are practicing or preaching. Hence, The common hypocrisy. For a conservative, universalism is peripheral or non-existent. There is no automatic reason to fight anyone else’s worldview. I do not mean to call you a liberal, but why is any of this important to you.n0mesorahParticipantWe have more people affected, by a gigantic number. If I would act like he does, you would not call me stupid, You would call me immature. What is this about? The President? Or the virus?
n0mesorahParticipantTwo years ago I read a court decision about freedom of religion in a private community. It was not discussing gatherings, but it seemed like they could ban them. Because they want everyone to use/rent the social hall.
n0mesorahParticipantDear Yankelle,
The term “Sar HaTorah” is not new. In the most recent era, it was given to the great marbeetzai torah. The Netziv. R’ Chaim Brisker, R’ Aaron, R’ Moshe, R’ Shach, R’ Shmuel Rozovsky, and R’ Chaim Shmuelevitz. (I know there other factions that use the title. But that does not relate to my point.) It Switched with Rav Shmuel Birnbaum. He was not a public figure and he had a small shiur in the Mir. The last ten years of his life, his shiur grew (Until he was ill.) and he gave shiurim all over. [Also, a high percentage of his talmidim became influential marbbetzai torah. With R’ Chaim Kanievsky it switched to a public figure who personifies the Torah.n0mesorahParticipantDear London,
Rav Chaim is a very special yid. I would not talk about him. But, if we go by seforim, It is not even in the top ten of today’s authors in vast Torah knowledge.n0mesorahParticipantDear Reb Eliezer,
If that is a chatzitza by netilas yaddaim, we would almost never eat bread. It clearly was an issue of the day. And, most bnei torahin Europe did not think it was issue to have long hair.n0mesorahParticipantDear Joseph,
The Guy had lice.n0mesorahParticipantDear Joseph,
In context, emunah peshutah means that which we believe, but we cannot behold. It is what is. If I would say it works for me, that is evidence that I do not have enough. I think you got accurate answers.n0mesorahParticipantDear Health,
Who cares what they do? Welcome to genuine conservatism.OOOPS! There is no one left to invite you. All the conservatives have joined the liberals, in assessing viewpoints of other people’s outlook. A true conservative sticks his own view to his own outlook. And he sticks it to himself.
n0mesorahParticipantHere is a little ditty!
We shut down (City, state, landmark, or shop, in the U. S. A.),
Because, (same) has coronavirus,
We voted for the President,
And, POP! goes (same).n0mesorahParticipantThis is why there should be (At this point, have been.) no minyanim at all. They were getting into trouble the whole time, and did not have the proper morals to act respectfully. If all the leaders would have said no minyanim now we have to focus on other things, the outliers would clearly be outsiders.
n0mesorahParticipantDear Joseph,
Millennia? Honored? Go read some Jewish biographies.May 15, 2020 2:06 am at 2:06 am in reply to: Lawsuit in NJ to force the state to allow worship service #1860962n0mesorahParticipantAfter what happened last night, some people need to be reminded that human dignity precedes human rights.
n0mesorahParticipantDear Abba,
Why Go to a minyan? Why daven? Zero walking. Zero cost.n0mesorahParticipantDear Kluger,
Walmart management would have wanted the clerk to put it back on the shelf. Laziness/lack of intelligence is why they threw it out. But either way, your thinking is completely irrational. If someone would steal the a/c that would be stealing. If someone pays for it and keeps it, the store has money. When the item is returned the store does not have the money, the customer does. That money was rightfully earned by the store. The customer reclaiming it without deserving it, is theft. That is not based on policy, it is common law. I have not found anything resembling your rational in Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz, or Kant. The onus of reason is on you to show your ‘rationality’.n0mesorahParticipantDear Care,
Thank you! You are very kind. Been there, worked on that. (No such thing as done.) Maybe you can point me to something new. On a different post I wrote that I am have respect for all Rabbonim. That was not my point. My point is, this is an issue of social conflict. People who follow their own paths away from the community, have to be amicable about it. If the Rav is for or against is not a factor. People have to answer to themselves first.
n0mesorahParticipantDear Gadol,
I think I agree with that part. But, to say a breakoff minyan is covered by 100 percent entitlement is a little bit mean.n0mesorahParticipantDear Social,
I would love to. Besides for food, medical, and construction, they are closed.n0mesorahParticipantI hear that there is a lot less dating. Bless those that scratch their heads at this time for the sake of others. Older non-learners that are not living with their parents are very lonely now.
n0mesorahParticipantDear Health,
From a conservative viewpoint, why would one care about someone else’s personal life?P. S. It is an interesting read how this thread went upside down.
n0mesorahParticipantDear History,
Maybe that should be despite physical……….. The way it is written, I would not call it emunah as much as mental fortitude. That may answer the mystery.n0mesorahParticipantThis thread is too much of a mix between rhetoric and sarcasm for the humor/jokes section. If one would right a parody for Democrats, it would be too over the top for the rants section.
May 14, 2020 5:48 pm at 5:48 pm in reply to: Dr. Scott Atlas of Stanford: Confining Young People to Makes No Sense. #1860826n0mesorahParticipantDear Yisroel,
She doesn’t want anyone to think that she believes chicken soup is medicine.n0mesorahParticipantDear Joseph,
If we would hold politics to the Light Of Torah, every politician you (or just about anyone) approve of, is sorely lacking. But if you can, please point me to the basics. Where does the parsha or sugya of politics start in Torah? [I am attempting to clear up the conversation muddling that happens when the Torah is inserted into political conversations.n0mesorahParticipantDear Common,
What happened to “Perkay avos says ahsay lecho rav, therefore people in Passaic should listen to the Passaic psak and people kin Lakewood should listen to Lakewood”?n0mesorahParticipantDear Joseph,
So, how an opinion is presented to the public reflects more than personal actions?n0mesorahParticipantDear Common,
Agreed! With friends and neighbors there almost never a good enough reason to report. There is little gain in reporting strangers for gathering during this pandemic. But we got shown up a bit here. Would you report a neo nazi?n0mesorahParticipantDear Care, Realistic & Rebeliezer,
How is this applicable to our Rabonim? There is no difference between a rabbinic position or an academic one. Why is a local Rav different than a Rosh Yeshivah? How are they both different from the day laborer who knows more Torah than anybody alive?Dear Gadol,
A hundred percent entitled? That is too far.n0mesorahParticipantDear Just,
I was not speaking about you. On the contrary you have been very fair minded. It played out on this thread, and even more in the real world, a pro/anti minyan dispute. It is lost on me why this became the issue of the day. Yidden took it as a public issue how others should cope with shuls being closed. First comfort my fearful, heal my sick, and comfort my mourners. Then, invite me to daven with you. The way things happened is a serious reproach to how we understand the idea behind the tzibbur. What is a minyan according to halacha is not an excuse.n0mesorahParticipantDear Joseph,
You make it sound like he posted to the coffee room. -
