    Dear Milhouse,
Paul Broun (R-GA) was the poster boy for congressional anti-science. In general anti-science appears to be equal across all groups of people. With the current virus, it appears that Democrats are more scientific, while Republicans are more political. Which probably has to do with the current administration. [As well as the other two this century. But nobody remembers their past mistakes anymore.]

All of a sudden everyone is so pro big government! Figure out your options from a medical and legal prospective, and make it work. The Governor is letting you practice as you wish. We have to work out the practical details.

It seems very likely that there will be another shutdown. Wal-mart can take care of itself. For a small business owner to go off unemployment, re-open and be shut down again, is crushing. Where was everybody to protect small business the last twenty years? Every election, policy, or court ruling this century, favors the growth of big business.

    Dear Syag,
    Regarding number 7 a & b.
Their is reason to assume any disease is effective at spreading indoors where people congregate for hours. Remember, that a lot of the early spread was because of prayer services, e. g. South Korea. Time was of essence at that point. The research available now, points to minyanim as a great way to spread any coronavirus.
People were contacting their community leaders in a very civil manner to fix the shopping issue. They were using all their energy on the denialists, they thought the stores could work it out on their own. They eventually did. And those in denial took the minyan as the rally cry. Nobody from the religious sector was advising against hysterical shopping, we had to be told that by our secular leaders. The minyan question took up way too much energy, and it led to tragedy.

    Dear Som,
Do you think Trump ‘gets it’ with the pandemic? We could agree hat he is the right man for the job in general. But he seems to have not grasped that there is serious work to be done. [Or, as his biography (pre-politics) indicates, he loathes problem solving.] Again, just one question. Does he understand the nature of a pandemic? If you think he does, you may be on the wrong thread. Or hanging on by one.

    Dear Syag,
Are you talking to me? Thousands of mourners? Hundreds of orphans? Unknown without income? Everyone missing smiling faces daily? All the children without their friends? Elderly that have not seen their descendants in two months? Many of our elder leaders passed on?

Why would anyone care about that? Just give them their minyan etc. because that gives clarity and meaning to everything!

    Dear Milhouse,
There is a tiny difference between fundamentalism and honesty. (Honesty is related to the truth.) Nowhere does it implicate that the idea is getting caught. You never mentioned any reason to think a king is what you claim it be. Your opinions are not bad. You made no attempt to source them, either.

What is so complicated here? The U. S. has the highest numbers in hospitalizations, critical, and fatal cases. That is not good. Very, very, bad. Nobody thought that the global superpower could be hit so hard. The President should say that things are very bad, and offer hope and comfort. If he does that he seals reelection. Clearly, he is not able to relate.

    Dear Milhouse,
Climate change is not a scientific discovery, it is a mathematical one. Is that what you meant? Either way, the study of it has been going on since before you were born. The more data we get, the clearer the picture becomes. It is not a pretty picture. [It does not concern me much.] Do you think the earth is cooling? Why not?

    Dear Milhouse,
I looked, it up. Koheles 10 20. You are incorrect. The next phrase says to not to curse the wealthy. It seems to convey that it weakens society when people belittle their leaders. All the more so in democracy. I would like one source that the ancient pharaohs were the state more than the president is.

These two together do not sit well with me.
    1) “only life in this world is Hashem’s lifeforce”
2)”very real part of your identity” and “part of your identity is just an illusion”
Each view by itself is fine. The two together, give off some strange implications.

    Dear Doing,
Herd immunity is less than that. I thought kids out of school was because of a child with kidney disease got chicken pox and will never be the same. That school had enough and removed all unvaccinated students. And other large schools followed. The smaller schools did not. Large schools have the ability to deal with immunocompromised children. Small schools can deal with parents that do not vaccinate.
An eliminated disease does not come back even without herd immunity. (i. e. smallpox) Herd immunity protects us from all getting sick. Compare coronavirus where almost all the people in the same house get in once. As opposed to the flu where some get it in October, some in Dec/Jan, one in the spring, and some seem to evade it completely. There will still be small pockets until it is eliminated.

    Dear Common,
I posed the question about davening at home, and was told Kol Hakovod! The Rosh Yeshivos and Rabbonim who have very busy schedules daven in private often. Those that deem it a serious risk will still daven at home. There is not much to say. Many shuls are not as beneficial as they should be. But what is there to do? Maybe we could daven.

Last year, during the measles (The disease that kills 100,000 children a year.) I was in Lakewood. I overheard a yungerman who had conducted his own study: Unvaccinated children have autistic parents.

    Dear Milhouse,
So a king is a ruler who cannot be legally deposed. That is your opinion. I do not see it. Definitely not compatible with TaNaCh.

I did not look up the passuk. I recall something to the effect of your words becoming public without mention of danger. Maybe that was Koheles. Okay, I will check it up.

Still why do you insist it is not dangerous? There is a whole thread discussing if someone was illegally in peril because of his place in Washington politics. (Or something like that. It is not my type of game.) Also, why does the danger have to come from the Government? Why can’t some radicals (namely me) act on their own, because of what they read online?

    Come on everybody!
We could discuss each Governor’s policy. We cannot discuss the President’s. Because there is none. He keeps moving on to something else. Bush had his popularity soar (like 85%) after 9/11. Trump wasted an easy chance to win reelection in a landslide. He never acts like a leader. That may be a good thing. But people get frustrated by a lack of leadership during a crisis. This is not about policy or politics. Leave Coumo out. He is leading 5 states right now. Trump is leading 0. I am not saying Coumo is better for it, put it does seem like the President does not get it. [If he does, it is a golden opportunity for him.] Please try to understand the point before making it political.

    Dear Health,
Okay, but your (mine and anyone else’s too) idea of established values is a minority in every aspect, when compared to politics or society at large. Why would you care if Mr. Biden or President Trump line up with your values, your still the same one opinion?
Not okay. This definition is based on allowing societies to develop their traditions according to their own beliefs. Therefore, Conservatism is far, far more introverted than extroverted.
Same idea, different phrase. Why should someone from a different society believe in these values?

    Dear Som,
Reb Eliezer is confused why the President is denying the reality of the pandemic. He did not give specifics. (He does not have to. My hangnail is not a pandemic.) Maybe he does not accept that the President can still be putting his self interest before the country’s. Either way, it is not good leadership.
