If she has expensive standards, that’s kesubah. What decides that standards, I don’t know.

    Dear Coffee,

    I hear your point.

So back to the first post…….

Why are people so hung up on sports? I assume this means fan culture. Now, most ardent fans of teams and clubs, don’t care about the general sport. They do not enjoy the contest as much as seeing ‘their’ team win. Does this not carry over well to politics?

    Dear Gadol,

I’m not trying to defend your lack of political knowledge outside of tv punditry.

Iran is not committing human rights violations with the frequency of Saudi Arabia.

Iran is not involved in civil war by proxy to the extent of Saudi Arabia.

Iran is not helping Russia maintain a stronghold on energy prices. Which one country is……. I’ll leave it you to guess.

Biden has not been a great president. But he is not totally ignorant of politics like your average tv buffoon.

If I had enough sand, my head will definitely be in it. As for you, please do not get your politics out of the television.

    Dear Reb Eliezer,

That is not the question here at all. The OP’s statement implies that if the husband gets financial help, the wife cannot use any of that money. By extension, if he gets a mortgage for their house from the bank she would not add able to live there. Perhaps if he wins the lottery, he cannot spend it on her. Because if their parents support him, then he will not be fulfilling providing for his wife. So obviously, parental support is only intended for the husband. And the wife is not allowed any benefit from it.

    Dear Smerel,

As I read more of your posts from other threads some from years ago, I see what troubles you.

It does not matter to me what specific congressmen seek to gain personally from various proceedings. As long as Congress functions, it’s okay that there is power struggles and avarice. The point of these hearings is to get a better understanding of the threats to our country.

The 16 election hearings, were about tied threat of Russian meddling.
These hearings are about all the different characters and what they intended to achieve on Jan 6.
These are matters of national importance. Trump is not the main target because there isn’t any real target. The goal is to assess the situation honestly and react accordingly.

The Ukraine hearings was all about Trump. The ultimate goal was to indict and then impeach. Still, the hearings were necessary to first assess all the information they had.

    Dear Chaylev,

That is not accurate. Even if she brings in and earns a negative total, she is still entitled to her purchasing preferences.

Under normal circumstances, there is no difference how much she or he earns. It’s all the same setup. I guess chazal did not prioritize making money over martial happiness.

    Dear Smerel,

I’m not saying the Democrats are the heroes to Trump as villain. To uphold our democracy, this work has to be done. And it is being done. Why are you questioning how congressional committees work? They could change the rules anytime they want. Why does that matter here? The question is, how good the evidence is, what does it suggest, and of interest to most viewers whom does it implicate the most.

    Dear Gadol,

I have a lot more gall than that, and it was a comment nothing like a lecture.

Please clarify. You think that your local punk is influenced by politicians, more than entertainers?

Presidents are supposed to fulfill their constitutional role. Not help you yell at your television. It is the clergy’s job to get you to turn off the television and find something to do with your life.

Now, Biden has turned out to be a crummy President. He could still improve. But let’s not whitewash his incompetence by putting together a made for tv list, that does not reflect reality.

    1. The 80s and 90s demonstrated that successful crime stopping is at the local level. In cities, this the police commissioner and the mayor. You think Reagan also failed on crime?

    2. Everything on migration in the last bunch of administrations has gone nowhere. This administration just put in place a major solution. Give it a chance to fall on it’s face.

    3. If you go back to a year ago, the feds were saying that inflation would be temporary. Either they lied, or were wrong. What should have been done?

    4. Biden has done a whole bunch to lower energy prices. Almost none of it helps. Saudi Arabia has the keys. And they dropped it off by Putin for safekeeping.

    5. There has been slow work on supply chain issues. Our advocacy bureaucracy at it’s best. The pandemic did not wait for government input.

    6. What could have been done to prevent the formula shortage? That’s old news. What about the current item shortage? Maybe you can preempt the next one.

    7. A whole lot to deter Russia. Where were you? Unlike Obama or Trump, nobody thinks Biden is a god.

    8. Afghanistan. It looks like a smart move now with Russia in Ukraine. First time this century, that America is not at war.

    9. There is a lot going on with Iran. America does not feel threatened by them. Comparatively, their behaving.

Why didn’t you mention his low television ratings?

    Dear Orange,

    I support your last paragraph.

It’s really hard to guess at what Rav Aaron would say today, because the growth we experienced, was unthinkable sixty years ago.

Eight to twelve blatt a year is not a Lakewood invention. Rav Aaron insisted on two blatt a week in depth for just second seder.

Rav Aaron was not there for the future poskim, or even the future leaders. He was only interested in Torah for the sake of Torah.

    Dear Syag,

Television is what decides America’s course. It’s the tv hosts, athletes, actors, and influencers, that decide the country’s value system. Elon Musk has created a pseudo religion. First on the left and now on the right. His fans can rightly be called worshippers.

MLK, Dolan, Sheen, and Falwell, were all huge public figures their day.

The partisanship is awful. Obama’s fault. But right now the Republican Party, is stuck on Trump adherence. The best result of these hearings would be if the Republicans would drop Trump and resume being the party of the people. Right now we have to parties looking out for the interests of the billionaires.

    A. This issue may be more of a problem outside kollel. Even if it’s equal, it would require leaders from across the spectrum to solve it.

    B. It would be proper for the kids to refuse it. With some exceptions. But that is on the individuals. Which depends on those guiding them in shidduchim. That leads into C.

    C. Those that live in a solid neighborhood will mostly answer the local Rav. A large amount will answer the senior Rabbanim. I think your wrong on this one. A large majority of kolleliet have someone to go to. For the wives or the working fathers, not nearly as much. That’s a real issue.

    D. In twenty minutes a day, they cover the whole Mishna Berurah every couple of years. If you mean a serious three hour Seder, why is that the standard of really knowing? How many start off still learning 8-12 blatt a Seder? A lot. Especially if yeshiva is doing a misechta they missed. But it quickly changes. At five years, those that are doing a few blatt a Seder three times a day, are a tiny percentage. And it’s almost exclusively those that are mentally but out for it.

    E. My dear fellow poster, nobody is more aware of the issues than me. It’s a big factor in why I’m so far out of the system. Why is the Yeshiva so uninformed, as well as non idealistic? To me it seems like the yeshiva boy of yesteryear seamlessly interacted with his college and blue collar, friends, neighbors, and relatives. That doesn’t seem to happen anymore. The Yeshiva is really nervous about outside influences. That makes sense. It is their cornerstone. But when it comes to mature adults, the influence flows the other way. From inside the Yeshiva to out. In a positive way. Lakewood did not do a good job of promoting inter-lifestyle friendships within their expanding borders. So the non yeshiva crowd, has their own society. And it promotes the influences that the Yeshiva is so worried about.

With these last lines, I wrote you one solution.

What’s your preamble, what Rav Aaron would say or the issues that need improvement? Because it’s possible that there are solutions that Rav Aaron would not have implemented or desired. Either one is fine. Just we can’t reasonably expect both to be simultaneously true or possible.

    Dear Coffee,

I think people get hung up on what they cannot grasp. If you could fully control it, you would be bored by it. Just like kids play imaginative games, because they are not aware of how to control their imagination. Some people never understand that, and their adulthood takes on a childish imagination in it’s preoccupation. They become cultists or conspiracy theorists, and thrive on the political fringe. You can find them on the deep of edge of sports too. Just there are too many unbreakable rules in sports. They consume gigantic amounts of non factual material. Movies, novels, comics, television, Disney, etc.

    A. Rav Aaron Joey people that were learning despite being wealthy with a matching lifestyle. He could not understand it. He said it was one of his biggest kushyos.

    B. I think he would say it is worth it. While he would do everything he could to help the children make it feel worthwhile to the parents.

    C. Simply not true. They have guidance. Maybe it’s not the best guidance. Look how many Rabbanim there are in Lakewood today.

    D. Maybe dens short term kollel guys there is some truth. Long term learners know a lot.

    E. I disagree. The responsibility is there. Just there are less ideals today. It’s hard to see a cause worth dedicating one’s life to, in our times.
