mythoughtsParticipant
RebYidd23 – are you stomping your feet and pouting while you declare that Trump is not your president?
mythoughtsParticipantI have to give Obama kudos for making it possible for the Republicans to be in control of the presidency and congress.
mythoughtsParticipantFor the guys…. Don’t be a shoiteh. If you find somebody you click with and admire as a human being then everything else will fall into place. I was lucky to find a great cook in addition to having everything I was looking for but it wasn’t a prerequisite. I know many couples where the husband does the cooking because he enjoys it more. A person can learn how to cook and bake but everything else…….. not so much!
mythoughtsParticipantWhy are some posters using the word “creepy”? You’re making certain assumptions without basis. How many doctors do you know that have a male secretary? If there is a problem with yichud then she needs to deal with it as prescribed by her rav without attributing negative intentions to the doctor.
mythoughtsParticipantI don’t think anybody can answer such a general question. I’ve rented to frum families and have had good results. I can give you some recommendations as a general rule and specifically regarding renting to frum as opposed to renting to others.
1. If this is in NYC apartment do not give a lease. The tenant can get away with not paying rent and it could take you up to a year to get them evicted. No lease means they’re renting month to month. This requires you give them one month notice for them to leave and much less of a headache if they stop paying rent.
2. You might feel much more comfortable asking a non-frum family for documenting income and a credit check.
3. If an maintenance issue develops on yom tov or shabbos, a frum family will be more understanding if there are delays in remediation.
mythoughtsParticipantJust to add to what yichusdik suggested. Studies have shown that exercise in combination with therapy and medication yields the best results. Hatzalacha
mythoughtsParticipantThe YeshivaWorld as well as other frum web sites have been advertising the charidy campaign that is collecting for his granddaughter’s wedding expenses.
Hupat Ha’ir is all over the internet schnorring and HaRav Chaim Kanievsky “is quoted by HaMevaser as saying that there is no excuse to permit the internet for those claiming it is essential for a livelihood since rabbonim have already ruled the threats that are associated with the internet are simply too great and one must simply distance oneself from it.”
From my own experience. My son was initially rejected by a high school because he admitted on the interview that his parents allow him to use filtered internet. That same principal later on asked my son to navigate web sites to post the yeshivos shiurim.
mythoughtsParticipantI’m not referring to Darchei specifically but isn’t it hypocritical that Mosdos bash the internet until they need it to collect money?
mythoughtsParticipantJust to add to mw13’s point. I wouldn’t try to dress in clothing that feels like I’m playing dress up. If you wear the yarmulke/kippa (male) you’re good to go. As you evolve you might find that one particular style of dress or culture “speaks” to you then follow you heart. Slow and steady change can integrate into your normal way of life and will remain. Drastic overnight change can revert just as easily. Good luck!
mythoughtsParticipantFor some reason you’re allowed to use the terrible internet to collect money for Mosdos. What a bunch of phonies!!!
mythoughtsParticipantI have a mind blowing novel concept. A man should look to get married when he is in the position to support a wife financially.
mythoughtsParticipantI’m a loss at what to do. Rubio will turn into another George Bush establishment Republican and Trump is a little looney. I believe Cruz will be declared ineligible to be President due to his Canadian birth.
February 26, 2016 2:50 pm at 2:50 pm in reply to: Parenting advice for your fellow Jewish father #1138842mythoughtsParticipantWill he be living on campus at this secular college or commuting from home?
mythoughtsParticipantJust a note. You should use the scar gel such as Mederma as soon as the wound heals. A fresh scar responds better to treatment. Hatzlacha
mythoughtsParticipantI hope you get in. The Rabbis running the place need somebody to pay their salaries……
mythoughtsParticipantOn a side note, I was wondering if akuperman is a Kohen. I’m just trying to track down mishpucha.
mythoughtsParticipantBlah. Chuck made no public effort to block this and this guy loves a public spectacle.
mythoughtsParticipantIt sure is. The internet is how many of the tzedakas do their schnorring after telling you how bad it is.
March 10, 2015 2:44 pm at 2:44 pm in reply to: Rav Moshe Feinstein – a scion of Chasidishe stock #1063846mythoughtsParticipantWho cares. Chassidus is a behaviour and a way of thinking not something you inherit in your blood. I wonder how many of Rav Moshe’s ancestors were grocery store owners……
mythoughtsParticipantI disagree. If you are trying to help them with a shidduch, that’s the first question a potential suitor will ask. They need to get over it. Don’t ask any questions unless you will follow up. Then it would be prying into their personal life without any purpose.
mythoughtsParticipantDuring Yizkor my father was standing outside shul and a fellow asked my father why he wasn’t inside saying Yizkor. No response was given. My grandparents were alive and doing quite well.
September 4, 2014 8:45 pm at 8:45 pm in reply to: Rejection from yeshivos/school for no tuition #1031556mythoughtsParticipantThis coffee room chat is really hitting home with me. I wasn’t allowed to send my daughter to school until I was paid up in full. I’m earning an ok salary so I don’t qualify for any assistance but tuition’s are sinking me quickly into a dark hole of out of control credit card debt. When I see people go around in shul collecting money I cry on the inside because I should be one of those people but I don’t have guts to do it. Looking for second job but I have no clue on how to get one. Getting very depressed.
March 21, 2014 7:01 pm at 7:01 pm in reply to: Tehillim for missing Monsey man- Peretz Yehuda ben Mirel #1008800mythoughtsParticipant2 questions. From what I could see from the video clips, the police are taking a secondary role to Chaverim. Is that the case?
Will they be continuing the search through Shabbos?
mythoughtsParticipantWhy are we so concerned with the labels that we attach to people? Is it strictly to scare them and keep them quiet?
mythoughtsParticipantYou worried about them being mechalel shabbos and you’re waking people up because they’re sleeping the wrong way????? You shouldn’t be in Kiruv or working with kids at all if you can’t see the over the top expectations you have of these soon to be frum children.
mythoughtsParticipantAbba bar Aristotle – remember, soinah matonos yichya
mythoughtsParticipantBaalHabooze – I guess you’re saying that children in kollel families that are not paying full tuition don’t have hatzlochah and siyato dishmaya in learning. Just curious, is your FIL footing the bill?
December 6, 2012 8:30 pm at 8:30 pm in reply to: Poorer People Bigger Tzadikm; Richer People Not Such Tzadikim #910864mythoughtsParticipantZed – I am a Republican. If you couldn’t figure out whether I agree or disagree with Shmoel’s observation then you must be a Democrat as well.
December 5, 2012 9:52 pm at 9:52 pm in reply to: Poorer People Bigger Tzadikm; Richer People Not Such Tzadikim #910848mythoughtsParticipantDid you ever notice that people like to demonize rich people while idolizing poor people?
Shmoel, you sound like a Democrat.
I think there might be some jealousy involved here.
October 17, 2012 2:07 pm at 2:07 pm in reply to: What is your favorite brand of instant coffee? #902134mythoughtsParticipantTaster’s Choice French Roast has my vote.
mythoughtsParticipantIf Chazal knew everything why didn’t they give us the cure to cancer? It would save many people a lot of pain and suffering.
mythoughtsParticipantWhite with black stripes is really a hot seller these days.
September 27, 2012 7:55 pm at 7:55 pm in reply to: Segulah! Open Hashgacha from the one ABOVE! RE: FoodStamps #897930mythoughtsParticipantI’m thrilled.
September 27, 2012 2:47 pm at 2:47 pm in reply to: What's the going rate for a lulav and esrog in NY? #897907mythoughtsParticipantI would say the range is between $40 and $150.
September 12, 2012 7:42 pm at 7:42 pm in reply to: If someone you know approaches you with a business proposal #896306mythoughtsParticipantHatzlacha!
September 12, 2012 3:07 pm at 3:07 pm in reply to: If someone you know approaches you with a business proposal #896303mythoughtsParticipantThe first question to ask is, do you have unfiltered internet at home? If he does, then he’s probably a low life and can’t be trusted.
mythoughtsParticipantI heard that it might lead to mixed dancing by tichiyas hameisim.
mythoughtsParticipantWhy don’t you turn the tables on your friend? The next time she calls, listen to her for a while and then tell her that its your turn. Start talking about things that are going on in your life and do this everytime she calls. Be sure you both have equal time. My guess is she wants to do all the talking and you to do all the listening and she’ll stop calling you when it doesn’t work out that way.
mythoughtsParticipantSimple comparison:
Odyssey is a more refined vehicle with a smoother engine and tranmission.
Dodge/Chrysler is cheaper $$$ and drives that way too.
mythoughtsParticipantIn my day and age, the chossons friends chipped in for that. Now days it seems that bochurim go shnoring and ask the next person to foot the bill. Sign of our times. I wonder how many of them are going to end up in Kollel?
mythoughtsParticipantI’m not sure what is so hard to understand regarding the belief that you can’t allow your mortal enemy to get a hold of weapons that can annihilate you.
mythoughtsParticipantListen only to his first albums not his latest.
mythoughtsParticipantLet me guess. If there is unfiltered internet in the house.
mythoughtsParticipantSimple answer. If he behaves like a mensch during the competition its a kiddush hashem.
mythoughtsParticipantI’m still waiting for someone to tell me precisely which speaker at the asifa said it was ok for people to have filtered internet at home. Filtered internet should be for business only, period. That is the psak of our gedolim. Rabbi Reisman is wrong.
mythoughtsParticipantI was directed, by a known posek, to call the morgue and ask if there were corpses of Jewish people stored there. I tried to explain the nature of my question to the person answering the phone but they thought I was pranking them and hung up on me.
I could never get a straight answer from a rav about this. Very frustrating.
mythoughtsParticipanttomim tihye (first comment)
I love the way you quote scripture as you recommend that people work off the books and violate both halacha and the law of the land. Is this the “Jewish” way of affording our lifestyle?
mythoughtsParticipantIts a false rumor. Don’t believe everything you read.
mythoughtsParticipantMy wife lessens my financial burden by working a very tough job so I help her with what ever she needs. Nothing is beneath me.
mythoughtsParticipantHow is luck different than mazal?
