When there is a conflict between the Torah laws and secular laws, Torah laws prevails over dina dmalchusa. (Otherwise you could discard most of the Torah.)

shlomozalman: How sweet. A koton reprimand a godol? Well, considering your previous praise of apikorsum professor’s for their Biblical criticism disputing what Rishonim and Achronim said, it actually figures.

“People are convicted on things other than concrete evidence ALL the time, make no mistake about that.”

In goyishe courts. That is antithetical to Torah Judaism and its laws for its courts and evidence.

“As to reputation – once someone has been accused, his/her reputation has gone to the dogs, no matter what truth comes out in the end, especially where molestation is concerned. People usually believe the old adage that “where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” and iof it was not true this time, it probably was true at SOME time.”

Which is exactly why we must tread carefully before false accusations of this crime are hurled at the innocent.

Why didn’t the Zionist authors of this prayer include in it the Yeshivaleit in Eretz Yisroel who are doing much more than the Tzahal by their learning Torah all day, which provides for the safety of Eretz Yisroel?

CRC, based in New York, is the Hisachdus HaRabbonim (Central Rabbinical Congress of the U.S. & Canada). They are affiliated with the Badatz in Yerushlayim and have a Beis Din, one of the most reliable hechsheirim, and other functions. Who is the other one in Chicago?

SJS, perhaps you overlooked this part:

“There is also a severe prohibition from the Torah in close friendships between a young man and woman.”

No posek disputes Rav Moshe on this. (The only question is whether it is m’doraysa like Rav Moshe paskens based on Rambam, or if it is like Ramban that rather than m’doraysa it is “only” a severe rabbinic prohibition, which even according to this shitta is still punished with rabbinic flogging.)

Here is Rav Avigdor Miller ztl’s advice from his Sefer:

A Beis Yaakov girl should be wed soon after or before graduation. Every day after she leaves the Beth Jacob marks another step away from idealism, for the street and the office and the secular school have an unfailing effect which increases from day to day.

Having said that, there are limits and there are mussar concepts like prishus and others which may faintly hint at what the OP wrote. But this must be approached with extreme caution and with the guidance of a wise Rebbi or Rav, and not on one’s own due to a svara that if it was good for Avraham Avinu (assuming that was pshat) then it’s good for me. And one must be certain to not cause tzaar to one’s spouse, CH”V.

I think HaKatan put it well, perhaps understanding the OP’s intent.

I agree with everything artchill said above. Orthodox Jewry needs a public spokesman of Rabbi Levin’s caliber. Unafraid of speaking the emes. Even if that means stepping on people’s toes. And even if it is unpopular in certain segments of the population. And even if it doesn’t help him win any popularity contests. And even when the emes is rough.

I recall a story of some godol who accepted money from the tziyonim for his Yeshiva. There were protesters outside protesting this. His talmidim told him how wrong it was for them to be mevaze him and the Yeshiva by protesting. He answered his talmidim, that while it is a necessary evil for him to take the money, he is glad the protesters are protesting because it isn’t 100% correct, and if the’re weren’t any protests outside, he would have to hire protesters himself to protest taking that money!

    We need Rabbi Levin.

WIY: His views on gays are probably more extreme then theirs!

The Torah’s views are even more extreme. As in execution. Death. Stoning. Rabbi Levin hasn’t been calling for that, so perhaps he can be properly characterized as not extreme enough on this issue.

Agudah is not above reproach. They are a lay organization. Criticism of Agudah, aside from having been often done by Rabbonim, is not a criticism of the Rabbonim affiliated with Agudah, but rather a criticism of the lay leadership of Agudah. (And, no, the lay leaders of Agudah do NOT necessarily ask the Moetzei for approval of every press release they issue or everything they otherwise do.)

Dear midwest2 i am a NYer and admit that my house probably would cost anywhere between 50-150 thousand less in most of the places you just mentioned. If you have four kids out of town living expenses will cost more for a frum family on a daily/year to year basis then living in Brooklyn or Queens. Out of NY there is even more expensive yeshiva and camp tuition, commuting costs, property taxes, and kosher food and neccesity of needing two cars in many of those areas. Additionally, their are of course many amenities to living in a big city such as generally better healthcare social programs etc.. I.E. if for fifteen years you are paying 10-15 thousand more a year in taxes commuting and tuition you definetly as a frum family spend more by living out of town.

Lakewood and Waterbury, are the only two places where this does not hold true as the housing prices in Waterbury are amazingly low and yeshiva tuition is low as well. Housing prices in Lakewood are much lower then many urban Jewish areas with much higher property tax but Yeshiva tuition is comparable to Brooklyn.

    i don’t think youre 100% right

Not only am I correct, my statistics are from the very same government website as you linked to! Fact is not only is NY below the unemployment average, most frum OOT communities currently have much higher unemployment rates than NY.

And why would you — in Florida with 11.7% — highlight NY’s low unemployment rate?

    with an 8.3% unemployment rate

Considering that the national unemployment rate is 9.6%, New York is doing relatively good.

    http://www.bls.gov/cps/

Michigan 13.1%, California 12.4%, Florida 11.7%, Illinois 10.1%, New Jersey 9.6% Pennsylvania 9.2%, Connecticut 9.1%. (Hmm, not only is NY better than all these States, it seems the closer to New York they are, the lower the unemployment rate!)

Moq also was apparently in the wrong circles during his NY bout. He must’ve missed the scores of tmimusdik Yidden all over New York who seek no fame nor glory. They live simple, unfashionable, lives. They live in Boro Park, Flatbush, Williamsburg, and every other frum neighborhood.

That’s because they have 60 (or whatever) frum families living just on their block, while out of town you have just a handful. So, sure, OOT you will know all the neighbors; but in NY you’ll still know more neighbors than OOT — even if not all.

Conservative and Reform are not Judaism. Their so-called synagogues are nothing but foreign churches. Whether you are “in favor of it” or not. It is not I who has cast aspersions on these foreign beliefs — it is the leaders of true Jewry that has. It isn’t a matter of lifestyle, but rather of the law given to Moses. You are Jewish, but you are not practicing Judaism.

Being frum is an option for everyone.
