Well my husband has a chronic cough. He has taken inhalators, antihistamin pills, he even went to an allergy clinic in Houston. They sent him weekly shots, I still don’t think he’s 100% cured. Maybe its nerves?
mybatMemberPies, apple, blueberry, cherry, etc
mybatMemberCherrybim since I live in mexico I speak to my kids only in English (so they could learn the language) does that make English holy?
The people that would take the train to work on shabbat every 5 minutes in Lithuania also spoke Yiddish.

GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!
mybatMemberwow! You guys really know what you’re talking about!
mybatMemberWhat enlightened said about living costs in the NY-NJ area is totally correct.
I’ve heard homeowners in Brooklyn say how their Homes are worth $1000000, so you say if you can’t make ends meet why don’t you move out? And they look at you like you just said the most scandalous comment.
Another point is that before your kids enter the shidduch scene explain to the exactly what it means to be in kollel. Tell them how it is, don’t paint a rosy picture, that’s unrealistic.
mybatMemberJphone if you would see what time the chattan and kallah show up to the sheva berachot in mexico you would be shocked.oh and the guests. (10:30)

My husband wishes nachos and cheese were kosher.

October 21, 2009 11:52 pm at 11:52 pm in reply to: Tznius Support Group PLEASE WOMEN ONLY, even reading #665218mybatMemberI know this has nothing to do with tzniut, but since you’re talking about baby carriers, are they really worth it? I’ve never used one and no one in mexico uses them but maybe its a good option?
October 21, 2009 10:03 pm at 10:03 pm in reply to: Working Mothers – How Do You Find the Strength? #663363mybatMemberBy the way what I wrote wasn’t to put guilt on anyone either. I was responding to Joseph. If a woman really needs to work Hashem should send you the strength.
October 21, 2009 9:18 pm at 9:18 pm in reply to: Working Mothers – How Do You Find the Strength? #663361mybatMemberI’m with says who and anonymrs on this. My husband works and learns, he actually does double duty.
October 21, 2009 3:20 pm at 3:20 pm in reply to: Tznius Support Group PLEASE WOMEN ONLY, even reading #665207mybatMemberHaifa that is really beautiful! Anon I understand what you’re saying. One story stays keep tziniut and hashem will reward you, the other one says if you are too vain hashem will punish you chas ve shalom.
mybatMemberWow! Haifa I’m impressed! You do know what it is!! 😉

mybatMemberJewishandworking why don’t you read the thread of how much a shadchan should get paid? That outta give you. Clue. 🙂
mybatMemberYankdownunder that is a good idea. They should also really scare the socks of the young guys.
mybatMemberTamazaball I don’t think they know what mole is. 😉

mybatMembermybatMembermybatMembermybatMemberYes, bas yisroel middot are essential. Just remember there doesn’t exist perfection. (are we perfect?)
mybatMemberHuh?!
mybatMemberRonsr why don’t you start a thread about aramaic?;)
October 20, 2009 4:32 am at 4:32 am in reply to: What Food Item Would You Like To See Get A Hecsher? #895410mybatMemberTamazaball there is cherry coke in mexico, you just need to know where to find it.
mybatMemberB”H my husband and I don’t smoke. But people should be very aware of its dangers.
mybatMemberYes tamazaball unless there is a very serious problem.
mybatMemberSqueak you are right a dance is perversion of yom kipur. I couldn’t agree with you more. I was just saying what some people do here.
mybatMemberHud what mazca is probably referring to is the secular Yiddish world that most people don’t know too much about because the movement never got to strong in the states. In mexico for example you have Jewish irreligious schools that teach Yiddish and no Torah. You have Yiddish sport centers that put on plays without tziniut in Yiddish. There is a conservative shul that uses Yiddish.
So what we are really saying is that there is alot of Yiddish apikoresut but many people in the states have never seen it because somehow that movement never picked up there.
And another point these people think that by knowing Yiddish it exempts them from doing mitzvot because they know Yiddish!
It really is very sad.
October 20, 2009 1:50 am at 1:50 am in reply to: What Food Item Would You Like To See Get A Hecsher? #895407mybatMemberLakewoodwife that would be great!we are always making picnics if we are somewhere without kosher restaurants. That’s why we usually try to go to places that have some kosher options.
Besides coming from mexico there’s nothing like a good slice of pizza in the states.
mybatMemberOh it wasn’t on yom kipur, it was in the night when it finished.
mybatMemberRonrsr, that’s so weird. In mexico the ashkenaz community used to make a ‘yom kipur dance (for people who weren’t so religious, I think that they still do it) and a lot of shidduchim came from it.
mybatMemberits probably because the communities are so big. If you want to do it the old fashioned way you should look for someone in your family’s circles, that way you know what type of girl she is and what type of family she’s from.
mybatMemberIsn’t this lashon hara against the BPers?
EDITED
mybatMemberOomis and working make good points, another point would be is be realistic. Know that marriage isn’t the excitement of being engaged and the wedding, its real life. Look at the persons character and at his personality. Look out for big laziness and rudeness, traits that you’ll have to live with for the rest of your life. Remember that your friends will not live your life they will get married to other people and make their own lives, don’t choose or reject a spouse because you are afraid of what your friends will think. Its your life and ultimately the one that is going to live with your decisions for the rest of your life is you.
mybatMemberI know of schools that only teach Yiddish, no torah, no mitzvot, no shabbat, no kosher, no tziniut.
I know at least 3 very big schools like that. In NY no one has ever seen anything like it, but unfortunately that’s the “holy” Yiddish for secular Jews.
October 19, 2009 7:01 pm at 7:01 pm in reply to: What Food Item Would You Like To See Get A Hecsher? #895400mybatMemberMazal I’ve seen a macaroni and cheese chalav yisrael in mexico. (a different brand I think its wacky Mac or old city cafe)
October 19, 2009 6:55 pm at 6:55 pm in reply to: Talking With Members of The Opposite Gender #663149mybatMemberHaifa, wasn’t that the wife of one of korachs followers? I forgot the names.
mybatMemberI guess all the rishonim, achronim, rashi, rambam, ramban, Ben ish chai, etc. (many, many more) weren’t holy enough for the lofty Yiddish speakers of todays generation.
Wow! I wouldn’t even dare insinuate that, I hope no one here is.
mybatMemberHow old are the students?
mybatMemberHow about the language from the torah and the gemarah? Ancient Hebrew and Aramaic , which is really closer to Arabic? (they are semetic languages)
By the way I know of many people who are practically assimilated but think that the fact that makes them Jewish is that they speak Yiddish, so sad.
mybatMemberTelegrok, thank you for sharing that. We could all learn something from your sons yeshiva.
mybatMemberTruthsharer, I think the point is that a person should teach their children to be hypocrites. The black hat is a custom and tzitzit is a halachah, so while he may be showing everyone that he is wearing a black hat its what’s in the inside that’s important.
