    As promised: See Beir Halacha – ?????? ????? ???? ????-???? ????

    ?) ????? ????? ??????…

B”H doesn’t say one isn’t yotzei. He says “Nachon L’Hezaher Lchatchila”. Also that’s talking about a trivial shalach manos to an ashir. There is no definition of “davar pachus” nor “ashir”.

But you posken he isn’t yotze vadai.

Cherrybim- For the actual mitzva of shaloch manos, the recipient must feel good about it. In other words, you are not yotze if you give a niggardly shaloch manos to a choshuv or wealthy person because he expects better.

Can you give sources please. As i understand, whether you appreciate or not…the giver is yotze the mitzva.

yitayningwut, you can recycle all you want, but don’t give it to me for your mitzva because you would not be yotze.

    Why wouldn’t he be yotze?

And another American Mishugas is the amount of people who learn Torah. In Europe, the men knew a little bit of Ein Yaakov, and the women some Tzena Urena.

    popa_bar_abba

And the women don’t even know tzena urena anymore!

And really the men don’t know Ein yaakov unless it’s an Artscroll.

Wolf- Note: My parents weren’t frum when the divorce proceeding started, so naturally they went to secular court. During the process, my mother and I became frum. When the judge asked to speak to me, I was already frum by that point. I suppose I should have refused to go, been convicted of contempt of court and been sent to juvenile detention.

When one his married civilly, besides the religious ceremony, then the parties MUST go to civil court to disolve the civil marriage. Dina d’malchusa dina.

    Besalel-

We have arvus..we(each one of us) are responsible for every other Yid. When they do an aveirah, HKB”H asks us why. what did we do to bring them to Torah and Mitzvos. We are all obligated to do kiruv. No yid can be written off. Even though that would be the easiest thing, but L’fum tzara agra.We may not be able to accomplish the kiruv with certain people. that is sad. We have to feel bad about that.

“As for havdalah, even the litvish are more lenient – beer is perfectly acceptable for that (though again, I have never seen anyone make havdalah on any amount of whiskey).”

Interesting! Shabbos morning kiddush is derabbonon and therefore would be easier to be meikel. Havdalla is d’oraissa and one should be more machmir.

Boy i know I’m gonna get it for this but..methinks klal Yisroel has bigger problems than those that follow the Taz and make Shabbos morning kiddush on whiskey. Whether chasid or litvak.

People who drink whiskey rely on the Taz in O.C. siman 210. His shita is halachicly reliable and in fact is not contradicted by the MB. Stop this silliness. The shita is NOT neged halacha!

One cannot learn Tanach properly witout learning it w/ meforshim that are based on Torah shebaal peh. Many pesukim translated by non-yirei shamayaim will result in garbage in-garbage out.

Sam2– I wasn’t arguing that the words aren’t Hebrew. Only that there is a basis to the babylonian names for the months that precludes us from going back to their original names. The babylonian names were good enough for the Anshei K’nesses Hag’dolah it’s good enough for me.

Popa-Gimmee a break. You just looked up a list of eastern european towns and copied and pasted. Most of those towns never had a Jew besides the “Moshke.”

I don’t think Cleveland, Toldos Tzvi,Chabad, etc. are towns in Eastern Europe. Just sayin’

Gedolim aren’t neviim. If a gadol advised a yid to stay in Europe, the gadol felt that is what was best for the person. Actually it probably was the best thing. Going to America for the most part was a ticket to chillul Shabbos and a life of hefkarus. Yes, Europe meant almost certain death, but with olam haba.

WIY- How pat and convenient. That totally takes us and our responsibility out of the picture. We can improve in many areas and we have to and we have to stop waiting for our Rabbanim to do this and say that and the other. Just take a good hard stare in the mirror and decide enough is enough!

I never said that each Yid shouldn’t take responsibility for his actions. But,I am not taking on myself to Poseach Pi L’satan mekatreg Klal Yisroel.
