Fargin all you want. How many are taking from the govt, food stamps, wic? Is the govt a zevulon too?

ROB- thanks for your comments and assumptions. we disagree with you.

Toi, The kollelleit don’t even fulfill the requiremnts of the kesuba, which includes support. It is the man’s responsibility to support the wife, not the other way. I guess you disagree with the kesubah also.

Yes, there are people associated with YCT who are massive Talmidei Chachamim

Oh how we have fallen. “massive talmidei chachamim” Prey tell who are these massive talmidei chacamim? Sam2, i’m calling you out on this one. Who are they? and what makes them massive talmidei chachamim?

FWIW, Lopatin the new president of ytc is about as lw as you can get. The only thing lopatin holds should be below the knee is a mechitza. A complete am haaretz.

Gemara in Taanis says on TU B’Av single women used to dance in the fields and eligible men would choose them for wives. The Chareidim now would probably be raging against Chazal for being so liberal and untznius. I think if we got back to sensible meeting and dating we wouldn’t have a shidduch crisis.

During the times of Chazal they leined the Torah every 3 years and the gemara in megilla 31A tells us they leined Zos habracha on the day after shmini atzere each year.

Hashem didn’t “make” them. they are takanos d’rabanon”

It’s for ordinary loans that the original halachos are for- like if you borrow $100 for a week. Noone does a heter iska for that…

What do you mean “original halachos”?

What I meant about the Rambam not having Rishonim to hash it out was that, had the Rambam been born now he would be like us, subject to the consensus.

If the Rambam were born now..he wouldn’t be the Rambam. Still don’t get your point.

I think there is a difference between the Rambam and someone today in that the Rambam didn’t have the benefit of the gedolei Rishonim and Achronim.

You must be joking…Rambam IS gedolei rishonim. Absolutely ridiculous to say that Ramabam needed any rishon or acharon to clarify his shita. And that we have better understanding of Torah. Too funny.

Recently in one of the big shuls in my neighborhood they had an election for president of the young marrieds minyan between one person who wanted decorum during davening and the incumbent who promised to allow all the schmoozing status quo…. the result incumbent 85% of the vote.. Mi Kaamch Yisrael.

Voting to allow shmoozing?…to bad the “big shul” doesn’t have a Rov to keep the members on the derech. Looks like the inmates are running the asylum.

147 – You take your own biases and declare that to be the halacha.

You should rather opine that the NK can’t be part of a minyan accrding to 147. By making these ridiculous statements you really do yourself a disservice because rational people will ignore you.

Say that in you opinion NK is misguided or mistaken. But we could really do without the hyperbole, especially in ragard to halacha.

And isn’t a megala panim baTorah shelo k’halacha tantamount to an apikores?

The gemara in kiddushin tells us that a wife needs her husband to be happy. But don’t forget the gemara is talking about a time that a woman was completelt dependent on a man for her sustenace.

That said, I think the passuk means a husband must go out of his way to make his wife happy. Regardless of what makes her happy. He must do everything in his power to give her that feelinng of security.

No rebellion against Hashem R’L. It is a moot question really. It is wonderful being a Jew and keeping the Torah. But it is also a great responsibility. Im really saying there is an Omek Hadin. Yiddishkeit isn’t warm fuzzies. Just read thru the yamim hanoraim machzor.

We do mitzvos and stay away from aveiros because as Yidden this is our job. There is no mitzva to volunteer for this. In fact beis din tries there best to disuade potential geirim from joining. Yes we have teshuva and Torah learning. gevaldik. If your teshuva isnt accepted by Hashem. If there isn’t the purest of teshuvah…then there is gehinom. Mishpotecha t’hom raba.

Nothing more to say. I am done with this discussion.

Schreck, I did see it and respectfully disagree. Yes the upside is great by being a Jew, but the potential downside is so much greater. Who can say they are living up to taryag mitzvos. The only reason I do mitzvos is that I am metzuveh. If I wasn’t a yid I certainly would not volunteer for it. It is too easy to be over kares. Nope not volunteering for that. Do you even realize how serious every aveirah is? Tread carefully.

My understanding is that Reb Zalman Nechemia does not expect people to use this smicha to actually pasken shailos. It’s for people who are going out in chinuch or kiruv and need the “Rabbi” title.

Also it sounds real good when you get called for an alya. Also good for shiduch resumes and impresing the mechutanim.

Also, why would you stop the Daf? You should try to know as much Torah as possible when you become a Yid.

First of all that was all said tongue in cheek.

Second, I would not be megayer. I could get to Olam Haba relatively easy being a righteous goy. Why become a Jew, with all the challenges and trials. There is absolutely no mitzva or chiyuv for a goy to become a yid.

Everybody has to know themselves and the way their body works. SM indicated correctly that learning all night is a minhag, not a chiyuv. I’m suree noone argues that point. The OP indicated he had an infection and hadn’t slept for some nights and would be unable to learn all night. rt brought up a red herring and Sam2 didn’t speak to the OP’s concern.
