Common saychel: The problem with your approach is that what may be best for you is not necessarily best for people you come in contact with. I heard recently that someone attended a wedding where several people were tested positive. One of those attendees didn’t tell anyone and as a result, apparently gave the virus to an elderly relative. So it’s not just about you

Yes, please tell us the Trump gaffes that have not been reported? All media are biased one way or another. Good luck finding the gaffes, at least nothing that comes close to Biden. But he gets a pass because he is a Dem

Rabbi Aharon Kahn’s shul on Ave J and E 18th doesn’t have an outisde minyan but those who want to daven outside can ask the back door in the driveway be open by knocking on it and people could sit under the tent in the driveway.

It is sad that yeshivos don’t all pay well or on time, but just to be fair, teachers don’t work a full day and if you extrapolate their salary to a full-time position as the rest of world does, it may not be so meager. In addition, how many parents are paying FULL tuition?

Also to be fair, who thinks that the issue is because people are spending money on clothes, bungalows and other expensive items, or is it a married couple with both parents working and a large family? It would be helpful if people trained for jobs that make a decent salary. How many people go into chinuch for lack of anything else to do? Or because it is expected of them?

Trump won the nomination in 2016 in a field of 17, many who were far more conservative, especially Ted Cruz. You are assuming, for whatever reason, that there is a large population that wants someone more conservative, but it was not borne out by the last election. It is not clear why there are Republicans who opposed Trump so much when he has carried out agenda items that should please Republicans, but be it as it may they hate him. Sadly there is little appreciation for the good things Trump has done but instead focus on ridiculous things like his tweeting. But he clearly loves America and is up against the Left, which clearly doesn’t and want to turn into a socialist country. Most of all, as long as president is an incumbent, it impossible for anyone in his party to successfully challenge him for the nomination

I’m glad you all are enjoying the pools but I can’t help thinking of all the tragedies I have heard of the years involving backyard pools, even when seemingly good precautions were taking. PLEASE, in your posts remind people of what they need to keep kids unattended out!

As a cousin told me when I was having uneasy, doubtful feelings, “Sometimes you have to have a leap of faith.” Getting engaged is not a binding agreement. Keep your eyes open during this period and be sensitive to issues that are important to you and how this person feels or reacts to them. Some people are just “happy” to be engaged and everything that follows and then avoid talking important issues or rationalizing them away. Hatzlacha rabbah!

I would not trust anything attributed to scientific community because they really don’t know and keep changing what they believe. Sadly there are a number of people who appear to believe they can go around without a mask or any other precaution.

It is worth noting that just four months before the election, De Blasio polled at around 5%. New Yorkers are so far left that apparently they took a liking to him once he showed how far left he is. He has been a terrible mayor and sadly there does not appear anyone on the horizon who will prove to be much of an improvement once he is out of office by the end of his second, disastrous term.

It was completely misleading when I was told that this was a tight race. The demographics indeed make a difference. Do frum candidates try to engage the non-Jewish members or do they just hope and pray they can get enough frum and otherwise Jewish people to vote for them?

Given the high percentage of non-whites in police forces around the country, I would suggest that 2004 is somewhat outdated. Also, one needs to understand the definition of “systemic racism.” The true meaning from what I have read is that it is official policy of an agency to act in a racist manner. Can anyone show any government agency on any level that has such policies that burn racism into their policies? It seems the expression has been hijacked to mean any individual acting in a racist manner suggests that somehow the entire agency is racist. But of course that fits the narrative a lot better that the U.S. is racist.

I don’t know what physical training NYC police get but many don’t look in particularly great shape and probably would be good for them to be physically stronger so they can better deal with a resisting person and would not then resort to using weapons. Maybe their training should be more like boot camp for the military

I see little value of voting in a frum person as Democrat member of Congress. However idealistic he may be, he will soon learn that he will have to agree with the Dem platform if he wants good committee assignments and help in re-election. Frankly, given today’s Dem party, I would be hardpressed to vote for any Democrat for any position. The party is moving ever farther to the left. I don’t understand why so many Jews still belong to that party

I can empathize with you. My wife and I were both in our 30s when we got married and our daughter is now older than you and still looking (Boys have it a lot easier). There is really nothing anyone can say that will erase your despair, but do know that with a blink of an eye it could all change. It happened to us and to so many others. A friend of our just got engaged at 38, another friend of my wife’s got married at close to 45 and had a baby. It can happen. Just don’t focus on those to whom, for whatever reason, it did not. Continue your hishtadlus and believe that each person you go out with brings you one step closer. Hatzlacha rabbah.

While I sympathsize with you, I also realize that Jews are humans and not always in control of their emotions, just like everyone else. Maybe a moment of recognition of the chillul Hashem will put a stop to the behavior, but people get caught up in the moment.

Shocking how many frum (or I assume frum people here) support Biden and allow sheker to come out of their mouths regarding Trump. Maybe he is a goy, but once you allow sinas chinam to enter your bloodstream it doesn’t take much to use it on fellow Jews. Biden is one of the most corrupt politicians in our day. He used his position not only to benefit his son but also a daughter and a brother. For whatever his weaknesses, Hashem determined that Trump be president, and it is troubling that so many frum people don’t see the hand of Hashem in all this, that despite all efforts to throw him out, Trump still stands.

Why not just read the transcripts instead speculating on this? As for Bridgegate, it was a unanimous Supreme Court decision, which means even the far-left liberals could not justify upholding these convictions. So unless commenters know the law better than the Supremes, I think they should abide by the decision

Quayboar: What relevance do the Vietnam deaths have to do with this? Why not compare with other health-related deaths. The actual mortality rate shows that most are in the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions, so to assume that opening up will cause a spike in deaths is really not borne out by any statistics if special care is taken to protect the most vulnerable in the population.

I wasn’t generalizing based only on simchaspot, but also heard of other elaborate and sometimes expensive events. People can do what they want; what bothers me is why this is what they want. Yidden traditional have had a measure of tznius and making a public spectacle, while not a real issue of tznius, does raise the issue of why people feel this is necessary. I agree the wedding spectacles are a similar issue for me. I think most of us have been to enough weddings that some folks feel the need to impress buy doing something unusual. To me it’s a sad waste of money.

Yes, my relative is in New YOrk and his Obamacare plan went up $5,000 in premium, another friend of mine saw his premium rise $2,000 for the year. 16.6% is big increase.

I suggest you save your hate for the enemies of Israel.
