Sun screen is not enough to say. You must put on sunscreen every few hours because it comes off (especially those in camp where you go swimming). Someone I know has to put it on every 1/2 hour because they are very light skinned and get burned very fast. I’m not light skinned and even I have to put it on a few times not to get burned. It’s very dangerous. Also everyone should drink, drink, and drink some more! (and I mean water, not all that sugar in soda)

This is actually the first time I heard it but I just listened to Yonatan Shainfeld’s “oh rebbe” song and I really like it.

in reply to: Broken Engagements #919189

True artchill but still sad. Besides, breaking engagements can come from cold feet about something normal, or something they agreed to and got scared of. For example, I know someone who had a minor mental disability and got engaged to a boy from a troubled home. A few days before the wedding the boy called it off because they suddenly realized what they’re getting themselves into even though they knew about it the whole time. It was very hurtful to the girl’s family and a big disappointment to everyone.

in reply to: Where do you shop? #685895

A lot of issues with shopping can come up if you don’t live in a good area. In Florida or California it may be more difficult to find clothing since it’s hotter and the clothing they make there is less modest. When you go to New York however, and walk into century 21 you see much more tzniusdik clothing.

I think the one I’m referring to is the waterbury cd one although I never heard that cd. I listened to the one by the Toronto Pirchei and it’s not the same one. Unless there’s another al tirah that nobody mentioned and that’s the one I know.

Hey, for real-are you guys licensed?

in reply to: Honesty In 'Redding Shiduchim' RE: Weight #685677

Wolfishmusings-who said you have to lie? You just don’t have to publicize what’s not asked. If they ask a question about the girl’s weight, then of course it’s wrong to lie! Besides, obesity can be a health issue too. But, if they didn’t mention anything, it’s totally fine to say she looks good even if she’s overweight because most girls in shidduchim do look good even if they are a bit heavy.

in reply to: Where do you shop? #685879

Also, I’m not from the tri-state area and it’s a bit more difficult here because we don’t have many of the stores here. Even if they’re in the state, I’ve never heard of them because they’re so far out.

in reply to: Where do you shop? #685878

I find talbots to be more expensive. Maybe I just don’t go at the right times but I surely always look online. Also, I’m very short-under 5’4 so I always thought that I can shop in these stores for dresses and skirts. However, lately I have tried shopping for such things there and everything is too short-and no, I didn’t grow!! I was thinking of sewing something because it’s so frustrating to shop for skirts.

in reply to: Honesty In 'Redding Shiduchim' RE: Weight #685671

clearheaded-what I said was that a girl can spend hundreds on her beauty, not just her wardrobe. There’s other stuff too: nail polish, treatments for smooth and pretty skin, and some other stuff I don’t think are appropriate to be mentioning.

The way a girl looks pretty doesn’t only revolve around clothing.

Yeah, the pain is for the other stuff but that also is included in preparing for a date.

Also, I’m going over and opening a thread for shopping.

in reply to: Honesty In 'Redding Shiduchim' RE: Weight #685663

clearheaded-are you a girl? If you are then I don’t get why you don’t understand that girls spend hundreds upon hundreds of dollars on their beauty. Not only is it the money but the pain too!

in reply to: Salary Expectations in Chinuch #910681

fabie-where the salaries are higher, many times the cost of living is higher so it doesn’t mean that it’s better there.

Hashem is everywhere and HIE-this is too confusing! can we change them or something?! At least when ppl want to refer to hashem is everywhere write it out so we know which one.

in reply to: Most Moving Jewish Song In Your View #1096896

I won’t get involved in the putting other singers down… But, I do agree that baruch levine is completely outstanding. His songs are extremely touching and of quality.

in reply to: Honesty In 'Redding Shiduchim' RE: Weight #685649

I think its reasonable to say no to a shidduch if the girl or boy is dangerously overweight because that can cause major health problem. If s/he didn’t manage to lose anything by then and they know they are very overweight, who said they’ll want to later on and it can be a very big health risk. However, for someone who is slightly overweight, they should be given a chance.

in reply to: Hilarious School Pranks #1228973

For those who are mischievous by nature (me as you can tell by my username) I think mild school pranks are fine. Okay, so you get into a bit of trouble here and there but if it will cause a chillul Hashem or will harm someone, it is definitely not okay.

in reply to: Have You Ever Googled Yourself? #686145

I’ve googled myself and many other random ppl i know and whatever came up was rather stupid unless they were someone major (rabbi, singer, famous businessman, etc.)

in reply to: Honesty In 'Redding Shiduchim' RE: Weight #685643

I agree with everything said. The girls who are overweight should also be given their chance. Sometimes boys who are anti someone overweight will reconsider once meeting her and seeing that she’s so nice…

in reply to: Most Moving Jewish Song In Your View #1096883

who’s song is al tira ki yashir… It’s also a really great one.

in reply to: Most Moving Jewish Song In Your View #1096880

I think all the songs mentioned are really beautiful. I think though that the song “av harachamim” (I’m not sure by who-maybe the chevra?) and another song I heard but most people don’t know (it was made up by someone I know so it’s not out there) “al zeh haya” are the most touching.

in reply to: Breathing Problems #685156

R U a teenager? I had a similar problem a few months ago and when i went to the doctor I asked them and they said that it’s a teenage stage and that many ppl have it but it will pass. i’d probably say to go c a doc anyways just in case.

in reply to: Breach in Tznius: Recent affliction attacking Klal Yisroel #1025089

like so right said-the knees must be covered by a skirt regardless of the tights/socks/knee highs.

But, I have another issue with tznius. Is there any heter to wear sheer tights? Why are ppl wearing sheer stockings if the foot also hasta be covered. Why is this considered less assur than short skirts? Maybe I’m just missing the heter. You might as well go without stockings! (I’m not at the madreiga to give it up-I still wear them)

in reply to: Musical Instruments #684945

I wish I could do the drums. The issue is that I’m still at home and my mother won’t allow it. She claims they’ll give her a headache.

in reply to: Breach in Tznius: Recent affliction attacking Klal Yisroel #1025078

I didn’t really read the whole thread but I do want to say that if you are a boy, you can’t understand. I’m totally not justifying not dressing appropriately but I’m saying that you shouldn’t start calling it names. Most girls that wear short skirts are wearing it for peer pressure. Plain and simple! It’s still not right at all but I don’t think it’s cuz of lack of self-esteem cuz don’t tell me that most girls have issues with self-esteem.

in reply to: Breach in Tznius: Recent affliction attacking Klal Yisroel #1025003

ketzies-you’re totally right. However, many ppl don’t only shop in the frum stores. There are goyish stores that sell skirts now too. All you have to do is go to Ross, Marshalls… (those are in my area) and you find a “nice” skirt but it’s not properly covering the knee. Many times the goyish stores are cheaper so ppl go there more. Of course for the tonz of ppl who shop in frum stores (many ppl do) they should stop selling the stuff. Then, ppl might also stop buying from the stores cuz the latest style is short and it doesn’t match it.

u probably heard this but: rather waste three seconds of ur life than waste ur life in three seconds.

in reply to: Falling asleep #685780

I do music but of course, ask your rav before. Also don’t use electronics (not including an ipod if that’s what ull use to fall asleep) for a few hours before going to bed. Don’t do exercise either for a few hours before.

in reply to: Falling asleep #685759

Listen to music. It ALWAYS worked for me. Me n’ my sis always have those issues. I think its a teen stage. Make sure it’s soft and very quiet. Some ppl say earphones ruin ur hearing though.

    in reply to: Sleep #684612

Talking in terms of sleep-I think I’ll head over to bed. It’s getting a bit late. G’night all!

    in reply to: Sleep #684611

HIE-good luck on ur regents. I usually sleep between 6 and 7 hours. Everyone tells me it’s not enuf but I guess I catch up on my sleep during class.

I’m not from the east coast and we don’t have regents here but finals are starting soon-bad enuf!

in reply to: Who spends the most time in the CR? #693374

HIE-100% true! Some people seem to live their lives on here. I post here pretty much but not nearly as much as some others on here.

jewish girl-does life hafta revolve around the internet?

in reply to: Cholov Stam #685187

I personally eat chalav yisroel only but I totally think it’s wrong that people have the attitude that you’re “not as kosher” if you don’t. I know many very kosher people that eat chalav stam. Most poskim hold that either is fine depending how machmir you are and what your minhag is.

in reply to: Finding the Right Seminary #1101678

I personally think that BYHD and the intensive program are both waiting rooms to get married and say that they passed sem. Nothing wrong-just not for the girls who want a serious year of learning and a REAL sem experience. I know quite a few girls who went there and were home half the time. They were the type for it and so they loved it.

in reply to: Bombs, Threats. What is going on? #685082

I totally agree. Sadly enough there were many jews (and frum ones too) that voted for obama and now are very disappointed. There were rabanim urging ppl not to vote for obama yet ppl thought they knew better and voted regardless. Obama has made many problems worse. However, I don’t think we can blame him for this stuff-It’s simply galus! THere may have been some steps that the officials could have taken to prevent stuff from happening-hopefully they learned their lesson.

in reply to: iPad — Kosher? #685933

Besides for the fact that he can totally get messed up on the internet, why give a thirteen-year-old an expensive item like an ipad? Isn’t that spoiled? That alone could ruin someone! In addition, it is extremely addicting.Gobs is 100% right!!!! Yes, maybe he can also access things like italmud or whatever torah programs they have but he can also access things that nobody should have access to-especially not a teen.
