I’m in the same boat as u although I’m not close to shidduchim yet. I tried counting calories and found that it worked if I actually stuck to it lol. You google how many calories to loose weight and it’ll figure it all out for you. Then you just have to measure whatever you eat. Also do exercise and go swimming as often as u can. If you do exercise your body also burns more calories at rest.

in reply to: Makeup for 3-day Yom Tov #698966

thanx sacrilege but how do you use it? You leave it in and it takes out the oil?

in reply to: Makeup for 3-day Yom Tov #698955

dunno-yeah, happened to me this y”t. I ask someone to brush off my hair if it still looks gray in the morning but usually unless I put in toooonz it looks fine.

in reply to: Makeup for 3-day Yom Tov #698949

First of all, like many already said I sleep face up even though I end up having a restless night. Also, the first night I coat myself until I look like a clown and eventually it wears off. I put on layers and layers of everything. Also when putting in and taking out contacts, try not to hold open your eye so your mascara, eye liner and eye shadow don’t mess up. When drinking water or eating soup try to keep your lips from getting wet or oily because it will come right off. That’s what I do and anyways, by the third day of yom tov nobody expects you to look too great. For all those who asked about the hair, don’t touch it too much and put in baby powder every night to keep it from getting oily.

in reply to: Good Websites #698215

thanx a gzillion. The halacha question I got answered on mi yodea and for the rest of the websites the more the merrier!

in reply to: Good Websites #698196

ermsaywhat-I don’t mean private. I mean a question that I can’t ask here because it wouldn’t be appropriate to discuss it here but in a different setting it might be okay. Also, I should have specified a website for jewish teens (like the cr)but all are appreciated :).

in reply to: What Should I Do? #698014

i think today was the hottest day in LA ever-about 115 degrees. I swam, swam, swam, and swam some more! And its really hard to find what to do in that heat!

in reply to: What Cellphones Did #697958

cell phones are like most other technological devices-they can be used in a good way or in a bad way. I just had an argument with someone about the internet too. The internet can be horrible and addicting but it can be used by the right people, in the right times. Same with cell phones. Use it at the right times, for the right purposes, and your fine. Why are people saying cell phones are bad when there are HUGE advantages to having a phone with you at all times. No reason to say its bad for the people who use it properly. And for the ones who don’t-learn some self control. Do dieters only keep the amount of food they’re allowed to eat in the house? NO! Same story with cell phones. You can have a cell phone-please use it wisely.

in reply to: Shidduchim: Why is everybody lying and is it ok? #698116

wew! everyone’s freaking me out! I’m not even close to shidduchim yet but why in the world would someone lie? Eventually they’ll be looked down upon as a liar no matter what. You don’t have to bring up the issue but don’t deny it.

in reply to: Clearing up a few myths regarding Tznius problems #696821

Whoever said that women dress 4 each other is 100% correct! As a by girl all i care about is what other girls and women think. I couldn’t care less what the boys and men think-they probably don’t know whats “in” anyhow. I don’t know-im not in shidduchim but i imagine that its a bit different at that stage and once ur married.

in reply to: Clearing up a few myths regarding Tznius problems #696788

I didn’t read the entire thread but I want to add something. Being a by girl myself (currently) and knowing that I don’t dress perfectly, a lot-even most of it is from peer pressure. And for anyone who thinks we don’t know the halachos-we most definitely know them and whoever violates them is doing it quite knowingly. Yes, every time I go against halacha knowingly I feel mighty guilty but there is a major pressure in today’s society that many girls (myself included) can’t always fight. Whether its right or wrong is a different story.

in reply to: Shower on Yom Tov #695900

I heard from my rav that on a regular 3 day yom tov its mutar to take a shower if ur uncomfortable but on r”h not because we’re being judged so its not a good idea to look for hetairim.

in reply to: Short Skirts – No Excuses #696406

I agree with kapusta’s rant that tznius is spoken wayyyyyyy too much about. Besides, when its spoken about it should be spoken about in the right way. The speaker should know what crowd they’re speaking to. Also, i find that things that are sensitivities are being stressed more than halacha. First get people covering their knees and then complain about the tanks and bright colored cloths. I don’t think speakers help though, at this point. I think the vaad in lakewood shouldn’t support any schools that don’t enforce the halachas on the parents and students. There aren’t many other ways to fight the peer pressures out there.

in reply to: Who spends the most time in the CR? #693404

BP totty-thanx for the welcome. Camp was a blast-I dunno how ready I am for the new year…. Vacation’s too good!:)

in reply to: Who spends the most time in the CR? #693401

Y.S.G.F.K.-I sure hope you knew that I wasn’t serious about that!

in reply to: Girls Congregating the Streets on Shabbos #691583

    aries-thanx for clarifying.

But, what you said about men and women in the cr-isn’t that why we have moderators? Yeah, sometimes they’re strict about what we say but that’s what they’re there for! Everyone-men and women are entitled to post on the cr!

in reply to: Girls Congregating the Streets on Shabbos #691482

aries2756-I think I still don’t understand you. I asked why we’re blaming the girls and you answered to remind us why we have to cry and fast on tisha b’av. Is that not correct?

in reply to: Girls Congregating the Streets on Shabbos #691474

Thank you BP totty-you seem to be the only one here with common sense! Make it’s because of the fast…

Aries2756-don’t try telling me that the bais hamikdash was destroyed all because of some innocent girls shmoozing outside!

in reply to: Girls Congregating the Streets on Shabbos #691468

I totally don’t get this. Why are we yelling at the girls? They are allowed to live a life! There’s a lot more to protect yourself from on the internet than from simply seeing girls in the street talking. What about all the untznius ladies walking around practically without clothing? That doesn’t give the men a nesayon? Why are we blaming the girls?

in reply to: Tips to Fast Easy #1211319

Take an energy bar before the fast and stay up late that night. Then wake up at um… 1:00? :)Half the fast will be gone.

in reply to: Camp Prices are High #688947

The camp I go to charges about 1600 for a half. I think up to 1800 is reasonable but yes, there are those camps that charge 2000 which I think is crazy.

in reply to: Confronting the Past #749085

Thanx BP Totty for ur sympathy!:)

in reply to: Cause For Teens At Risk? #688753

Not like I’m a professional or anything but I don’t think its right to blame the kids that go otd once they do. If they’re already there, just show them unconditional acceptance and love.

in reply to: Why Are Kids So Sensitive These Days? #694989

I think that firstly, in the times of the holocaust, etc. people instilled in their children the love for torah and yiddishkeit much more than now. Also, then there was no such thing as movies and such outside influences.

When I was new to cr I told my friend that I finally made my username after being an observer for a while. My friend went on and looked around for a new username and discovered me. Another two people since then have figured me out because of my posts.

in reply to: Music(ician) Talk #687455

I just got a new yamaha keyboard. It’s great. I didn’t like the other ones I’ve tried and I asked someone who’s really experienced in music and they told me to get a yamaha.

in reply to: When are you leaving to upstate? #687778

no problem-I guess I’m just scared some1 will figure me out.

There is tonz of moderation and I don’t think there are issues of L”H here.

in reply to: Confronting the Past #749058

I’m in h.s. now and when I was in fourth grade a teacher, principal, and another student (along with all the people involved) wronged me terribly and I haven’t forgiven any of them. Every rosh hashana I debate what to do. The student said I did something and the teacher and principal believed them even though it didn’t make an ounce of sense and it was totally not true. My parents had a meeting with the staff and parent of the child before I was allowed back to school and because I was so mad at them I calculated that I lost some school time which totalled to be $22 that the school “owed” me. I think that much I got passed but I’m working on the rest. Poor chinuch disicions can be very devastating. It’s many years and these people aren’t forgiven. I’ve been told to send a letter to the people but I haven’t gathered the courage to do so.

in reply to: Why Are There So Many Angry people Out There? #687383

I’m not judging anyone cuz I would probably the worst with my temper but I know I’ve learned that it should NEVER be used-i don’t know the source though. It could be a rambam-goody613.

in reply to: Why Are There So Many Angry people Out There? #687379

Wolfishmusings-I learned that every middah has to be used to a certain degree besides for anger. Anger should never ever be used.

in reply to: Should Some People Be Considered "Unmarriable"? #687265

And is it a lack of bitachon to install a security system in your home? Is it a lack of bitachon to get a shot? None of those are mesorahs yet they are hishtadlus and therefore you can do it. Same with dor yesharim.

in reply to: Should Some People Be Considered "Unmarriable"? #687263

mosherose-in previous generations they didn’t have all the sophisticated medication that we have now. It’s not a mesorah so why do you take medicine when your sick?

in reply to: Should Some People Be Considered "Unmarriable"? #687254

Dor yeshorim should definitely be tested. I personally know a family that lost two children because they didn’t test before they got married.

in reply to: When are you leaving to upstate? #687706

in reply to: 5 Most Important Shidduch Questions #687660

who are you to judge if meatballs and spaghetti is a good enough meal for shabbos? If it’s considered a special meal for him then it is! Maybe not in your home but not everyone’s homes are yours!!!

in reply to: Board Games #808963

mosherose, If you are serious about the niece, you may as well put up a mechitza at your shabbos table.

in reply to: Regaining Sensitivity #686797

Just as a proof to what sofdavarhakolnishma said that it’s more chamur once someone’s married-hilchos yichud is d’oraisa for married and d’rabanan for unmarried.

in reply to: Taking a while for posts to show up #686886

Yeah, the cr is dead. Maybe its cuz of the power outage in lakewood.

in reply to: Tipping Camp Waiters #687462

I think the waiters sometimes work harder than the counselors and it’s very important to tip them. They’re the ones who get up early to set the table for breakfast and stay late after supper to clean up. Not only that but during the meal every five minutes they’re getting up to serve you. In the camp that I go to counselors are practically expected to laze around in bed all day.
