lovesbeingjewish…I don’t see Facebook as you do. I use it to keep in contact with friends and especially family who do not live near me…What I have done is given Tzedakah in Leiby’s memory and have committed myself to additional learning…I suggest each one do something “additional”…I’ll leave that up to each individual to decide

BOR….I can assure you they are not hiding their Jewishness… The kippa on their head pretty much tells everyone who they Are.

There was a case in Montreal a couple of weeks ago. A father stabbed and killed his 2 children… I won’t get too much into the details but even after admitting what he has done… He was found not guilty As his lawyer claimed he was insane … The jury bought it and he is now ” hospitalized” but may be out sooner than thought… The Aron case is not a slam dunk… The case Im referring to is the Turcotte case

“isn’t it sad that something so “not normal” has to happen to wake us up?”

Yes, I agree with the above…but we all expect people once a person reaches a certain age to eventually pass away…so when it happens we are upset and hurt by that…but I don’t say it comes as a horrible shock, especially if they were sick.

Thus, we may not feel the “wake up call”…Unfortuatly as humans sometimes we need a horrific event to take notice…I wish the gentle reminders would be enouigh for us.

“has their deaths (all 3 of them put together) been equal to or greater then Leiby (there hasn’t been 3 CR posts about it yet there are more than 10 about Leiby I’m not talking about news sources I’m talking about if you get affected by it as much as Leiby or a terror attack”

You can’t say this death or that is “greater” or “equal” etc. Only Hashem know’s for sure…

What I Will say is Leiby’s death was a tragedy…An innocent life cut short under horrific circumstances, and of all things done by an “observant” Jew…

The gedolim’s death while still a Tragedy for KAL Yisroel, the circumstances surrounding there death was more “normal”. I.E The natural order of getting older and passing away at an old age…

in reply to: Tzitzits in the summer time #789914

    It’s hot out…but we really don’t have a choice…

Polyester Mesh is your best bet…

As for your community, I agree it is very hard when yuo are one of only a handful of observant Jews…You mentioned that you are not prepared to move yet, and NY is not the end all be all, but maybe you should try moving to a place that has a orthodox community. Doesn’t have to be as big as NY, but there are many even in the midwest…

My son told me he was going to marry mommy…I wouldn’t be too concerned

in reply to: Relationship Between Recent Events #789205

I agree, nobody knows why…we can try to rationalize it, we can learn from it and try to improve ourselves, build bridges (especially among all the frum yidden), stop all the “infighting…but to say it happened because of this or that is only wide speculation…Only Hashem and perhaps a very select Gadols know for sure…

in reply to: Why burn Yummy Snacks? #789490

I’ve actually never seen anything positive come from NK….The holocaust denying conference they took part in was probably their lowest point…of course the “hug” with the lunatic is a close second!

in reply to: What Should I Do? #790382

Not that his constructive to the conversation, but I thought Rabbi Wallerstein doesn’t use email. At least that’s what I thought he said in one of his Shuirs….

in reply to: Why burn Yummy Snacks? #789487

I just don’t get NK…with such hatred in their hearts I have a hard time believing they have Jewish Neshamas…I mean last week we witnessed one of the biggest tragedies of the Jewish people in recent times. Jews from all backgrounds came together to assist and help…And here you have these thugs spewing hatred…No wonder we continue to wait for Moshiach….

in reply to: So sad about Leiby! #787821

This was a tragedy among tragedies, the only response is to build bridges among Kal Yisroel…Unfortunately no easy task…We are so divided on so many issues….

The only thing Jews have in community with the Amish is the dark suits and hats 😉

in reply to: DIVORCE CRISIS – young couples getting divorced #1200043

I would also add that people are more in love with the idea of being married, then actually being in love with the one they are marrying… I also think that people are afraid to be the last one if their friends to get married and thus force things along, when perhaps they shouldn’t have…

although i knew after the first date I was going to marry my wife, I waited just under a full year before asking her to marry me… While a long courtship may not be right for some, it allowed me to make sure it was 100% right…and now after 2 kids, mortgage, and a dog, things are better than ever…

in reply to: Couple Meals #788229

100 percent of the time???better go speak to my wife, then have a word with myself 😉

in reply to: Wearing a Yarmulka in a Movie Theater #787703

GeshmakMan….i’m not embarrased to wear a yamulkah to a ball game or movie…and I agree if you are embarrassed to wear one then you shopuldn’t go period.

PS your lucky you’ve gone to so many games…

in reply to: Wearing a Yarmulka in a Movie Theater #787700

GeshmakMan…I don’t think you have ever been to a ball game. What you describe is not the case as you portray it…

How is this different then daveining is a parking lot at a major rest area, airport, or anywhere else I’ve seen minyans that are outside a shul/home?

Our mission here is to elevate the mundane, to infuse the ordinary with holliness…forming a minyan and deveining at a ball game, side of the road, or an airport does just that…

in reply to: how do i learn yiddish? #788367

In the winter, there is a ski hill up north (Montreal) that has a minyan…taking three steps back and foward is a bit tricky with ski boots, but it can be done…

in reply to: We can't win #787564

Not giving a get is just evil…you gotta do what you gotta do, but I think beating someone up is not the answer… Running their livelihood is a better option 😉
