cofeefan…let me be clear about my comment. Having Diabetes isn’t sad. The idea that you feel it can affect a shidduch is. There is absolutly nothing wrong with Diabetes just like there is nothing wrong with having blue eyes. I DO find it sad that someone would tell you not to mention it because they feel it can be seen as a negative. If you dont want to say anything because you ddont want people to know your medical history, that I understand. But from the advise given to the freind of truth be told by a rabbi makes diabets seem like it’s something to be ashamed of, which of course is just silly

    Avram in MD. “

Can you honestly say that, in modern Orthodox settings you have encountered, you have never heard a disparaging comment about the “black hats”? I know I have”

Yes I have, usually in regards to the silly things discussed in this post IE Do wearing jeans make you less religious or is it OK to have a day job etc…you get the point

in reply to: how young is too young to married #733897

it’s shameful that one would even suggest a child of 15yrs of age should enter into a marriage contract…the rabbi and his organization are way off base.

in reply to: Pets & Halacha #1152817

a bag of dog food which will last you about a month is under $30. I strongly doubt this expence is the reason they are struggling so…

Is this what we’ve become, arguing about jeans and if they make you more relegious…O Brother!

in reply to: Hiding Things in Shidduchim #730158

“A friends son is a diabetic, was told by several Rabbonim not to tell until after four dates” Seriuously, over over being a diabetic? How sad

in reply to: Do you or would you wear jeans #730608

it’s not what you wear, it’s how you act and treat others…

in reply to: Do you or would you wear jeans #730589

I would only wear white jeans and a black shirt…so at least I would keeping consistent with the uniform, albeit in reverse.

why waste your time on this gashimus?…well for one thing some of us don’t see it that way:)

in reply to: how young is too young to married #733847

15 yrs is way too young. I don’t care how mature they are…

in reply to: What should we tell our children? #729368

Smartcookie…I won’t. I just felt it was a knock at my parenting skills (and anyone else who has done it) as I am guilty of abonding my kids with their grandparents for a much needed rest 😉

in reply to: What should we tell our children? #729364

    shev…love your previous post….

in reply to: What should we tell our children? #729363

I think we can all agree (other then estherhamalka) that it is OK for parents to take a well needed break every once in a while to reconnect and leaving them with their bubbies and zaides is not abandoning them.

in reply to: second marriages #729525

Bed-Stuy…people divorce for many many reasons. to stay married just to stay married is not always the best…

in reply to: What should we tell our children? #729350

    your post above mentions Disney..

in reply to: What should we tell our children? #729341

estherhamalka…you are way off base. Who are you to say what a married couple should or shouldn’t do? And leaving your children with their grandparents is hardly abandoning them. There is nothing, let me repeat NOTHING wrong with a married couple taking a time to reconnect as husband and wife. If it’s not for you fine, but you have no right to look down on those who do.

Secondly, Do you want to make your kids nervous every time you leave the house wondering when you will return? Make staying with their savta exciting, build it up during the week…they’ll be very happy to go on their adventure…so, honesty is the best policy!

in reply to: JETS SHMETS!! Who cares?? #728584

it’s also great for kids…too many of them are not getting enough excersice. There is nothing like tossing a ball around with your kids…

in reply to: JETS SHMETS!! Who cares?? #728578

“The whole idea of getting pleasure when “your” team wins is just so foreign to me regardless of religion.”..Strange, becasue the idea of NOT getting pleaseure when your team wins is foreign to me :)….

    in reply to: Canada #728835

AND, you better start to like hockey…I’ve seen kids with peyos peaking through their hats skating at the local park playing pick up games…

Montreal is great. There are plenty of great communities that will fit your lifestyle (MO, Yeshivish, Chassidish) you name it. As a whole the entire Jewish population is considered to be very traditional. Montreal also has a rather large Sephardic population…There is also very good schools (that are affordable) restaurants and bakeries. Not to mention tons of family friendly activities….here is a great reference http://www.mk.ca/

in reply to: Is there an inyin that your zivug should look like you? #728627

” I feel like this is stopping me from being excited over my chosson” no offense but if this is what is keeping you from being excited, then you are going to be in for a rude awakening…I never heard such craziness. If you want to look like your bersheret you can marry your cousin, Halachalicy nothing wrong with that 😉

in reply to: Nothing Wrong With Smoking #727375

The reason why smoking is not frowned upon as much as it should is that tons of yeshivish boys are doing it…..You should see them puffing away at seven eleven motzei shabbos….

in reply to: Fairly Clean Comedies #731924

thanks for edditing my post, but actually it is very funny…maybe you need to work in an office setting to appreciate it….

in reply to: Disturbing Story on Plane #727485

have you ever tried buying a lulav and estrog? Or try to get to the food at Kiddush? These flight attendants have no idea what pushy really is. I once almost got trampled going for some scotch at a chosen’s tish….

in reply to: House Keepers #728194

BP Totty…. you are really out of touch and sound a bit jealous of the fact this young couple can and want help. Sorry for the newsflash but scrubbing the floor and getting someone to wash the windows doesn;t make them a bad person or wife. And you are 100% dead wrong for comparing this to rasing children and taking care of the eldery. While we are at it, why not take away womens right to vote and forbid them from getting driving licences?? Or better yet let them not leave the house unless accompanied by a man, of course they will need to walk 5 feet behind them….

in reply to: Nothing Wrong With Smoking #727352

it’s not”bummy” but it is unhealty. if you don’t belive me ask your DR. And if you feel there is “nothing wrong with smoking” then why not let your pregnant wife puff away or better yet smoke a cig while giving your baby a bottle…if, as you say, there is nothing wrong with it

in reply to: Bigger Assur Facebook or Smoking? #726637

“Everyone who’s ever spoken says flat out not to let kids onto social networking sites, and it’s in the school handbooks too.” I wish they would spend the same, if not more time on explaining to kids the dangers of smoking and healthy lifestyle (eating right and exercising) Unfortunately, little to no time is spent on both…It troubles me to see yeshiva bochurs puffing away in front of Seven Eleven motzei shabbos

in reply to: Bigger Assur Facebook or Smoking? #726626

can someone please give me one concrete example of how “Facebook kills entire families”…If this is the case I find it strange that numerous Orthodox Jewish institutions like Aish, Chabad and the OU have facebook pages. Not to mention several other Orthodox Shuls as well as Rabbi’s

in reply to: Shaking Hands #726692

gavra_at_work, You are right on both points. Eclipse, I’m sorry the comment about the home was uncalled for…
