I have to agree with Wolf on this one…

in reply to: Hillel House #741896

canine…obviously you have no idea what you are talking about.

A place that provides kosher food, hosts shabbos meals etc. seems pretty Jewish to me…

in reply to: Carlebach Kabbalas Shabbos #742530

“listening to Carlebach will make you depressed”

I listen to Carlebach music and I’m not depressed….

in reply to: kiruv to the not yet frum #742208

popcorn…I agree with everything you say…

in reply to: Kosher Movies/ Torah TV #743307

“I dont think there is a single movie out there that is appropriate..”

Thats a pretty big generalization…There are plenty of good kosher movies out there

If Hashem didn’t want us to have elctronic devises, he never would of allowed someone to invent them…

in reply to: What would you have done? #827982

Manners, simple as that…but it’s been 20 yrs so I think it’s time to move on?

in reply to: Carlebach Kabbalas Shabbos #742496

“but that listening to his music would cause you to get depressed”

    foolish comment…

everything in this world can go both ways…it’s up to us to make sure we use it for good and not bad…I’ve said it several times. TV, Movies, even secular education etc. all have their place. We just need to use and teach our Kids to use it properly.

Will they be given credit for all the good they bring as well? For example using an Ipod to listed to a shuir, a TV to watch a taped Shuir…etc.

in reply to: Kosher Movies/ Torah TV #743293

like everyting else there is the good and bad…their are tone of good clean films TV shows etc. out there that one can enjoy…Princess Bride is a great film!

in reply to: Autistic children #741411

20th century sage the Chazon Ish used to stand up in respect when a person with Downs Syndrome came into the room….it is believed that they have very lofty souls, some say their only mission here is to help others perfect themselves, as these individuals have souls that are already close if not perfect….

Personally, it would not deter me… I think Emunah with Hashems plan is all you need….

in reply to: Kosher Movies/ Torah TV #743284

I agree with wolf…there are a lot of options, all depends on what you are comfortable with..plenty of frum people have TV’s they just hide them in air conditioning boxes when they bring them home from the stores as not to arouse their neighbours susbitions :)…just joking!

in reply to: Yeshiva Secular Education #741093

Maybe it would also allow those kids to grow up and pay full tuition for their children, thus avoiding the financial crisis going on in many yeshivas today….

in reply to: Surfing while at work #741746

I work in a very liberal place…I often surf while on the phone with customers/suppliers…It does not affect my work and it’s done in full openness with my boss…If your company has a policy against it and you do it, don’t be upset if you get fired for it….

in reply to: Yeshiva Secular Education #741088

Not sure if there are any yeshivas like this, but I would like to see a yeshiva combine learning with learning a marketable skill…What do I mean, the option to learn a skill like being an electrician, plumber, General Contractor, Drafting etc…if a full secular education is not what you fancy, then at least a skill that will allow kids to earn a good parnasa when they get married….would you be willing to send your kids to a yeshiva like this, thoughts??

in reply to: Tuition Crisis Solution #742094

Wolf…good reply on why it would never work….

    Private school is a luxury…

in reply to: YWN On Facebook?! #765719

yogibooboo…I’m not sure you understood my post…I agree qith you 100%…facebook has a lot of good and I love using it…

in reply to: how many frum yidden? #886124

I’m surprised no one mentioned the fact that we are not allowed to count people…Isn’t it in this weeks parsha?

As for wolf’s comment he is spot on…I’m sure there are people here that would not consider some MO people frum cause they may have a TV or go to a mixed school, but These people would define themselves as such….

observanteen, you should be a little more respectful….

    doncha think?

in reply to: Using your parents money #739300

How old are the kids? Are they too young to have Jobs or are the Jobs they have no small it would take for ever to save up? Parents realize that they will have to pay for their kids, Skating is a healthy activity and should be encoraged…i dont see a problem with it, and working hard in school and getting good grades should be rewarded

in reply to: Help paying for a wedding? #739469

have a small wedding OR get a job and save up for it..just a thought…

in reply to: When to stop dating someone #739458

Yes atraction can grow, but generally speaking you know if you are attracted to someone after seeing them a couple of times…if everything else about the person is great, but there is no connection…that is a big thing to let grow on you…on the other hand if there is a spark and you want to learn more about the person, then 2 dates is not enough….

in reply to: YWN On Facebook?! #765714

yogibooboo and always here…I couldn’t agree more…I’m very weary of people who want to “ban” things…a ban is used to restrict info and keep people in the dark, so others can keep control of their flock.I’m sorry for being so direct, but that is what a ban is…hence the Egyptian government trying to ban the internet etc…As you both stated above, Facebook can be used for the good. Just learn how to use it properly….it seems like those generating fear have never been on or used Facebook at all…

in reply to: YWN On Facebook?! #765710

Facebook is no more dangerous than anything else we have to contend with in the secular world. If you use it properly it is very safe. Most of the people lecturing about facebook have probably never been on it or aren’t aware how it works. Facebook is no more dangerous than chatting here in the coffe room, looking at pictures on onlysimchas.com… still don’t see the danger of connecting with friends and family on line…we can’t just run around banning everything, better to teach people how to use it properly…

Daas Yochid…thats pretty funny…must of been under a very leniant hecksher 🙂

in reply to: Saying Good Shabbos #741138

I only say good shabbos to men between the age of 29-32…anyone else gets a blank stare…..seriously, I say it to anyone one I come accross on Shabbos regardles of gender age etc…Like wolf if I’m not sure if they are Jewish a smile and good morning, I think an observant Jew being freindly to strangers Jew or Non Jew is a kiddush Hashem…

in reply to: YWN On Facebook?! #765708

at least with facebook you can choose who you interact with, here you don’t really have that ability…

in reply to: Kosher Subway #738665

alright I’m going to Subway, what do you guys want me to pick up for you?

in reply to: YWN On Facebook?! #765704

“speaking of which i saw the social network on the plane to geneva….wow that was some crazy law suits he got there!!!”

thats OK, he has the oney to cover them all and then some….

in reply to: YWN On Facebook?! #765699

I’m not sure what people have heard about facebook, but from the comments it seems like many have no clue…Facebook is used so people can stay in touch with one another, connect and reconnect with old freinds and or distant family….yes you can share pictures, but you have the option to make them private so only those who you give access can view them…Facebook is also one of the major forms of communication for many corporations allowing them to inform their customers of new products etc…YWN being on facebook is simply good business…again it seems that most people with something negative to say have never been on facebook but rather have relied on the untruths people have told them…Facebook like the internet like anything in this world can be used for good or bad, it’s up to you to teach your children the right way and then have confidence in them to do the right thing…trust your parenting skills and trust your kids…

in reply to: Kosher Subway #738617

something tells me if someone was to open a kosher KFC, Burger King, Dominos etc. In Broklyn there would be a lot of paying customers…people like what they can’t or don’t have, giving them a “kosher” access to the forbiden is a good business decesion….

in reply to: Kosher Subway #738600

I think we have to keep in mind that eating a meat sandwich with a vegan/parev cheese or a meat meal then parev ice cream is not a loophole…both the non dairy creamer and vegan cheese have no dairy in it what so ever…so not sure why you would need a loophole…

    in reply to: ebay #741170

you can get great deals on a lot of items, the person selling charges you freight, based on size and weight of the item. there is usually a freight estimate so you know what to expect…

in reply to: Kosher Subway #738586

    Daas Yochid….

What abbout all the people who use non dairy creamer in their coffee/tea after a fleshich meal? How is this OK?

in reply to: Kosher Subway #738579

all this talk makes me want to eat a huge steak and a pareve ice cream for desert

in reply to: FFB – Do We Get Credit? #1023026

“Those who merit being FFB have more time in their lives to do mitzvos. BTs can never catch up.”

    actually you are dead wrong…

if Teshuva is done out of Love for Hashem and not just fear, the sins can be switched to mitzvahs…so the BT will still be ahead 🙂

in reply to: Kosher Subway #738545

Daas Yochid….”Do you also agree that there might be an issue, even in the kosher Subways, with maris ayin (fake cheese with meat)?”

Not at all, if it’s kosher it’s ok with me…

I’ve purchased fake vegan kosher pepperoni and added it to my pizza before…I kind of liked it…

in reply to: Kosher Subway #738541

I guess the kosher lamp is well…not kosher according to you…

“mr rogers neighborhood and nothing else. no disney, sesame, or barney.”

Mr Rodgers is an Christian minister…I’m surprised he would let his daughter watch that…that being said I don’t have problem with any of the show mentiones, including Barney….

in reply to: Just wondering #736679

real-brisker…I did, I thought I had you pegged for a MOD in disguise….but I was wrong…I still think your Kosher Subway remark was a bit much…They make an awesome turkey club, if you ever have a chance to visit a kosher subway you should go, it’s not as evil as you think 😉

Although I still believe some posts make it through to cause a stir…(like this one)!

A Woman outside bklyn…you’re making too much sense…stop it…we only accept illogical and foolish arguments here…

in reply to: Kosher Subway #738481

“I think his point on the milk and meat thing was why do we always have to find loopholes to taste every pleasure in the world.”

If we are going to find a loophole for more pleasurable things, then I hope we find them for more exciting things then a roastbeef sub….

for one i am no longer going to be drinking tea as it is from the very goyish nation of China!!
