enlightenedjew…….maybe the beatles and rolling stones?
mikehall12382MemberI find it amusing when Frum artist copy the music from Goyish songs…It happens more often than people realize, just most have no idea where the song originally comes from…..
mikehall12382Member“Those who equate TRUE Breslov chassidus with the Na-Nachs are similar to those who equate true Chabad chassidus with the mashichists.”
well said, there is a lot to learn from the teaching of rebbe nachman, Rabbi Lazer Brody is a great example of this…
As for the Nach Nachs, say what you want, but they do seem a happy bunch 🙂
mikehall12382Member“I would actually like such a boy, they are generally much deeper than regular frum boys and have been frum long enough that there is no difference.”
from my experience with BT’s this holds very true….
shorosh: Their Emunah can be deeper and their determination as well since they may have overcome more challenges.
very true….
mikehall12382Member“if I killed your god, you don’t want to know what I could do to you”.
better yet, becasue of that, you have a religion so thank me 🙂
mikehall12382MemberWho cares what the Pope thinks and I for one don’t need his exoneration…
mikehall12382Membermy cousin put his proposal in a chineese fortune cookie, it made for a nice desert. there is a company that will allow you to put messages in their cookies and they are kosher!
mikehall12382Membermosherose…Read The Garden of Peace: A Marital Guide for Men Only by Rabbi Shalom Arush translated by Rabbi Lazer Brody
mikehall12382MemberKids need to feel that there are options for them. Not everyone fits into the full time yeshiva learning mould…
They need to know that if full time learning is not for them, there are options out there which are perfectly acceptable and 100% kosher. There is nothing wrong with wanting to work and combine learning, which is frowned upon in many circles.
Often, because they feel it is one or the other, they choose the other which means going OTD.
mikehall12382MemberAvram in MD, thank you for your interesting experience
Charlie Hall, your Rav was spot on, and see how well things turned out….
mikehall12382MemberFrom my experience, the vast majority of Ortho shuls block the driveway, so there is no coming or going during shabbos…
Despite this, some shul goers drive and park around the corner…
Like I said before, everyone is on different levels, people don’t realize how lucky they are to be born in a frum environment. For those who aren’t, we should no judge them. Going to an Ortho shul is a huge step for many. Hopefully a non judgemental approach by the Rabbi will help foster a closer bond with Yidishkyte and bring these people closer to Hashem and Halacha…
It’s is better to look at the positives and then focus on the negatives.
mikehall12382Memberof course my responce was removed…too bad
mikehall12382Memberthe macabeats sampled a non jewish song for their popular Hanukah song this winter….they did a good job.
mikehall12382MemberAriInMD…well said I agree 100%…these people are laying the foundation for their children to return…everyone has to start somewhere…the last thing anyone should do is tell them are wrong and not welcomed…that will just push them further away
mikehall12382Member“Matisyahu who is borderline (probably OK for teenagers who are rebelling or falling off, and something that should be outgrown by about age 20)”.
thats a pretty vague and simplistic view…
mikehall12382Membershlishi…you want to be the one to tell someone who’s parents survived the horrors of the holocaust and raised their children in a secular matter that they are not welcomed in a Jewish Institution like a shul, when they have no understanding of halacha?
mikehall12382MemberI love Baker Street….
mikehall12382Member“If a bit of non-kosher food fell into kosher food, would you take a little bite to see if the taste is recognizable?”
NO, of course not becasue I am Kosher.
As for music there are various opinions on whether it is permissble. There ARE NOT various opinion on whether one can eat bacon or shrimp. All Orthodox Rabbis, even MO say that it is forbidden…(TOUNGE AND CHEEK)
mikehall12382MemberI belong to an MO shul, while there are some that drive. They are not MO, they simply belong to an MO shul. The parking lot is also closed on shabbos, so if you driver and park their on Friday you are stuck till after shabbos. The question is why do non-orthodox people decided to go to an Ortho shul and should they be welcomed?
mikehall12382Member“I think everyone knows the difference between Jewish music and nonJewish!!!”
well I love Leonard Cohen, Billy Joel, Matisyahu kenny G and Paul Simon…All 100% Jewish. Would there music be classified as Jewish Music or Goyish?
mikehall12382Member“Okay, but how are you supposed to know what’s clean unless you listen to all of it, including the bad stuff, until you figure it out?”
Well, it’s pretty simple. You start listening to a song, if you like the tune, words and beat and are comfortable with the lyrics you continue listening. If you find any of the above not to your liking you turn it off….
mikehall12382Memberdespite what many here say, non jewish music is not all bad. There are many mant great non-jewish songs.
mikehall12382Member“Debatable… the crowd there is very modern, and some of them are completely not frum. Also, the halacha is not enforced there at all by the faculty. People are openly not shomer negiah, eat treif, and are mechalel shabbos. Definitely not the most kosher environment in my book.”
maybe, but if that is a case it is a smll minority, not the majority
mikehall12382MemberDOG…spoke with my Rav before getting it too….
mikehall12382Memberunless taking of mediaction requires you to open a light, i’m sure you are in the clear…but ask just your LOR just in case…

mikehall12382MemberMy wife works, we have no choice…the cost of tuition alone is reason enough for us both to work. The add on the fact that we like to eat, lights, a roof over are head…there simply isn’t another option for us
mikehall12382Memberyoga is very goyish, it associated with meditative practices in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism…very goyish
mikehall12382MemberLitova, you bring up an interesting point
mikehall12382Member…or some look where they shouldn’t be 😉
mikehall12382Membermytake…”subtly express their affection….. but I’ve seen it”
mikehall12382MemberWolf keep up the good fight…Your wife is lucky to have a loving affectionate husband (I’m sure many women here would love the same). But have supressed their desire, becasue they know they will never get it from their husbands, thus making the ones that do have this special relationship feel like we are doing something wrong. Which, we are not!
mikehall12382Membernow there is something wrong with PJ’s??
mikehall12382MemberMO are still 100% observant despite what many people here thinnk…If they are eating non kosher food then they may be modern, but not orthodox.
mikehall12382MemberI know of other Rabbis that do this as well…simply because they would like a private meal with their spouse/kids…nothing to do with it being wrong in any way…Mind you, they only so this on rare occasion, usually they have no problem going out to eat in their neighbourhood for all to see…
mikehall12382MemberPoster…sounds like you need a hug…just make sure no one sees it 🙂
mikehall12382MemberNot sure why this is even an issue…
mikehall12382Memberthis no ones business except the couplefe. the card is on display in HER house,…It’s not the end of the world to express your affection on papaer to the one you are about to spend the rest of your life with…More people should take “note” and do the same…
mikehall12382Memberthere is a huge crisis, you must be married by 20…just kidding…
mikehall12382Memberwhat if the merchant is male and the customer is female? Or what if the merchant is a non Jew and you….this ethread is a bit silly. Basic manners says say please and thank you all the time….
mikehall12382Membermikehall12382MemberParents, Just a lil FYI the number of frum “internet” addicts r rising
not surprised, it’s often their first taste of the outside world. The answer is not to BAN or pretend the internet doesn’t exist, the best safeguard is to educate your children, teach them about the outside world and teach them the tools they will need to survive in it…If they are well equipped, then be confident in your parenting and have faith in your children. Teaching children how to safely use the internet is better then locking it away and letting them discover it on their own when YOU are not around…Becasue, they ultimately will go on it one day…..
mikehall12382Memberif your kids go online, what are some of the sites they allowed to visit?
mikehall12382MemberWho can afford to go to these events nowadays?
Some still can, but the numbers are getting smaller….
mikehall12382MemberIf a person wears a black velvet kippah, has a TV and wears a light blue shirt…what does that make him?
mikehall12382Memberdial up….people still use this?
mikehall12382MemberIs someone who wears a srugah or colored shirt any less frum than one who does?
NO!, But others would say yes…
mikehall12382MemberDaas Yochid…thanks for the tip, but I’d rather keep listening to his music
