UJM:
1. According to most rishonim, shmitta is meshamet chovos at the end of the year. There are minority opinions that hold the beginning of the year.
2. Financially no. However, as a chizuk for the Takana, some encourage anyway.
3. Needs to be retained until RH. After, if you think that your collection will end up in Bais din and the other party will taana that shmitta was meshamet, you’ll need to prove that it was done.
4. Yes.
5. Yes.
6. Yes.
7. No.midwesternerParticipantHow is that different from what happens here all the time anyway?
midwesternerParticipantThe Schumer tape’s being ignored by all the left wing media as well as the justice department is one of the biggest proofs the to right wing’s philosophy that the entire system is stacked against us. How saying that it is two years old is some kind of defense absolutely boggles the mind.

midwesternerParticipantIf the tickets were sold out in an hour, that means there weren’t enough tickets made available.
If a half million people go every year without difficulty, and one year there was a stampede and a horrible tragedy, the answer should not be eliminate 90% of the traffic. The answer should be more efficiency, and if that requires some reduction in capacity, so be it. But 90% reduction? To me that means 400,000 or more aren’t getting an opportunity. Anyone who thinks participating online is participating, has no clue what this is all about.

To respond to UJM, shidduchim resumes are not really resumes. They are more like contact/reference lists. it is a wonderful convenience that saves a lot of time. If calling it a resume bothers you, then by all means change the name.
midwesternerParticipantLet them do it legislatively. That’s the way the system was designed. And if they reach too far, they will stand to pay on election day.
midwesternerParticipantFirst of all, the parsha you’ll miss is Acharei Mos, not Bechukosai. Also, if you’re back in Israel for the Shabbos after, there will be loads of places that will lain Acharei Mos and Kedoshim together, for anyone who was in Chu”l, including all the yeshiva bachurim that will arrive that week.
midwesternerParticipantMTG is the most marginalized member of Congress. Paul Gosar is nobody. No reason to condemn and thereby give publicity to the ones who are being ignored anyway. AOC and the squad are front and center in the Democratic Party.
midwesternerParticipantUB: That is what is being suggested. But even more than that. It includes supporting the nation that gave us Lenin, Stalin, the Iron Curtain, was meshamed doros of Jews. And before that, the czars and the Cantonist program.

One of the last things he did was write a letter to the editor of Yated that was published after he was nifter (might have been printed before, but by the time the paper was out he had passed away already. In that letter he warned very strongly about staying away for Multi Level Marketing schemes like this one. Don’t remember if he mentioned this company or any other one specifically, but sometimes it may be true that chacham adif minavi.

midwesternerParticipantAgree with Syag, DY, etc. One little interesting caveat, FWIW. I’ve been saying a daily daf yomi shiur for a while. During the early months of Corona, I said the shiur from home on Zoom and/or conference call. My post seminary daughter (since married, BH) would listen in many evenings, albeit without following along inside. When topics in Shabbos an Eiruvin would come up around the Shabbos table, she would say, I remember when you spoke about that in your shiur!! If her husband’s family found out, I wonder what they’d think about that!!!
midwesternerParticipantTokens for the bridges? Do you remember the books with coupons that you had to hold out the book and the attendant would tear out the page?
midwesternerParticipantCuomo was forced out for one reason. He had accumulated so much garbage that it didn’t all fit under the rug anymore. It wasn’t the nursing homes or his morality or lack thereof. It wasn’t his political stance on anything. It was just costing too much political capital to cover for him, so he was hung out to dry.

midwesternerParticipantIIRC, MBD sang Sameach Tesamach from R B Chait at a HASC concert (I think HASC 3) and recorded it on an album later.
midwesternerParticipantVAhaviosim may not have been composed by Yerachmiel. But wasn’t that album mostly his? (A little bit of Harvey Erlich and Heshy Nussbaum too.)
Perhaps TEACH me how to sing was not included because falsettos (kop shtimmer) don’t count.
midwesternerParticipantBaal Habooze: Can you explain why Benny Friedman is related to Avraham Fried but not the Marcus brothers? And interesting to note that you left Mendy and Yisroel Werdyger out of MBD’s family. Chazan Ari Klein too for that matter.
midwesternerParticipant#2 has countless answers. Aside from those already mentioned, how about V’chol Hachaim. Adir hu, but maybe that’s not slow enough. V’zocher, if you count the opening as a part of the song. Same on V’eineinu Sirena. The old Mimkomcha from Haneshama Lach record. Mikdash Melech. Melech Rachaman. and the list goes on and on.

Rav Moshe Feinstein zt’l NEVER EVER referred to the Lubavitcher Rebbe as the Nasi Hador. I don’t know what goes on there. But I know a number of people who go. They are largely ehrliche yidden, who live Torah based, albeit Baalebatishe lifestyles. And those people provide quite a fair percentage of support of Torah in this country.midwesternerParticipantAl ta’am vare’ach, ein lehitvake’ach!

midwesternerParticipantHouse Dems Reject Measure To Boost Israeli Security Aid
House Democrats on Thursday voted against a measure to provide Israel with emergency funding for its Iron Dome missile defense system, which destroys terrorist rockets before they land, saving scores of lives as Israel continues to fight against Palestinian terror groups. In a vote of 218-209, Democrats rejected a security funding amendment offered by Rep. Tony Gonzales (R., Texas). The measure would have paved the way for Israel to receive a tranche of emergency dollars specifically for missile defense, which has proven critical as Iranian-backed terror groups Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad target Israeli citizens.
The Democrat-controlled House’s rejection of the security amendment came just days after a Republican bid to sanction Hamas was shut down. On Tuesday, Democrats rejected a bid by House Republicans to hold a vote on Hamas sanctions legislation that would have cut off the group’s funding sources.
Check mate.
midwesternerParticipant“To clarify, I wrote this before the rockets started coming over from Gaza.”

One who equates Lag Baomer with Chol Hamoed is probably being Mevaze es hamoados. We learned about that recently in the daf.
