Greet everyone ‘b’seiva panim yafos’ (Avos), see it as a Mitzva you have to do, this will automatically make you outward going.

Someone asked a Baalie Mussar ‘should he study all the mussar books to change his personality for the better, he answered all you have to do is keep all the 613 mitzvos, and not break the 218 aveiros, if you do that, your personality will automatically change.

Musis is very powerful, it opens up all gates, different musicical notes have a powerful effect on a persons mood more then anything (e.g. music was used for prophecy).

Listening to non Jewish music is often ‘love songs’ (western music)that engender immoral thoughts, or ‘funeral dirge’ music (eastern music) engender murderous thoughts. Only Jewish music that is between the ‘western’ and ‘eastern’ cultures, that is in the ‘middle’ does not create bad feelings in a person, and consequently bad actions.

Rabbi Moshe Feinstein was against people listening to any music, since the Churban habayis (other than music at Simchas Mizva occasions).

Nowadays as there is more depression, some Poskim are generally more lenient, and allow people to listen to music when they feel low. However they say you should ‘not listen when you eat, and wake up’ -Rabbi Shraga Kallus explains this to mean, you should not walk around with I-Pod listening to music all day long- music should not be your whole etzem-this detracts from Zecher Lechurban.

The Talmud in Artscroll Kesubos (all about Yishuv Eretz Yisroel) quotes in the notes that with regard to living somewhere, its important to live with good neighbors as they have a affect on a person. It quotes the Mishna in Pirkay Avot (Chapter 6, Mishna 9) states:

    “Said Rabbi Yossi Ben Kisma:

“I was once walking on the road, when a certain man met me. He

greeted me, “Shalom,” and I responded: “Shalom.” He said, “Rabbi, from

which place are you?” and I said to him: “I am from a great city of

    scholars and sages.”

He said: “Rabbi, if you will live with us in our place, I will give you a

million dinars, gold, silver, precious stones and pearls.”

I replied: “Even if you give me all the silver and gold, precious

stones and pearls in the world, I will dwell only in a place of Torah…”

    The Chofetz Chaim writes

It seems that this [prohibition of teaching Torah to daughters] is only for the past, when each person would live in the location of his fathers, and one received one’s father’s traditions strongly, such that each person followed his fathers’ path, as it says in the verse “Ask your father and he will tell you” (Deuteronomy 32:7). Under those circumstances we could say that she should not study Torah and rely on her fathers regarding proper behavior. But now, due to our numerous sins, the reception from fathers is very much weakened, and it even happens that [children] do not live in the same location as fathers at all, particularly those who study the languages of the [other] nations. [Today], it is certainly a great mitzvah to teach them [our daughters] the Bible and also Prophets and Writings and the ethical teachings of the Sages, such as Tractate Avot and the book Menorat Hama’or, and the like, so that the will come to appreciate the truth of our holy faith. If not, they may deviate completely from the path of God and violate all the principles of the religion, God forbid. [Translation by Atid]

I asked a Shailo to a Rov about who a Kohen can marry, and he said a Kohen can marry a woman who has had Biah with another Jew, as long she never married that Jew and now divorced him (however if she was widowed he can marry her).

A Kohen cannot marry a woman who has had Biah with a goy, or her male family members.

Well it says in Talmud Shabbos (near the end)-a Tanna’s mother would ensure that her son’s head was coverd, since he stole a fruit (as he was born in the constellation of Mars). The head covering would make him have more Yiras Shamayim.

it uses the word ‘chofuie rosh’ his whole head was covered.- not just a small bit (like some kippa sruga’s)

BACKROUND: The Roman philosophers are arguing with the Jewish Sages, and now attempt to prove that Avodah Zorah has some truth to it.

    ???? ??? ???? ???? ????

A man serves Avodah Zorah and rain falls.

    (Talmud Avodah Zorah (65A)

This cannot be true as it says in Tanach ????? ???? ??????? -the vanity of the idol worshipers is foolish (a pun of the word for rain).

The Midrash comments on this that does not fall by magic or demons, it only falls by the Command of Hashem.

The answer could be, that since Hashem commandson Rosh Hashona that the rain fall’s on a certain day in a certain place. The ??????? (the ‘external forces’), hear Hashem’s decrees on Rosh Hashona and mislead some people

The command of Hashem is done with speech, which reaches these idol worshipers in a dream.

If Hashem would not use speech, but thought (?????) then the idol worshipers would not hear this in a dream, and therefore would not ascribe it to there idols, and therefore would not worship the idols.

This is why the Jewish Sagess reply ‘ ?????? ?????? ??? ?????’ he smoothed there words (they have evidence that idol worship has a some truth ) in order to drive (the idol worshiper’s) from the world, i.e. he causes it to rain (sometimes) on the day they pray to there idol, He let’s nature (???) take it’s course and the idol worshipers are punished for not seeing God in the ???.

We Jews need to come together and tell the world the only thing you should keep is the Noachide laws-tell them to tell this to there children-if they do this- then they will relise the Noachide laws (and all its components (abizzerai’s mentioned in Sanhedrin, which includes Talmudically analysing the Noachide laws)are the ONLY thing they should keep.

If they keep these laws ONLY there will be no rioting.

He mentions other yichud cases like, and is lenient in many of them as there could be a situation where a second male can come back any time (unannounced) and it will no longer be yichud (mentioned in Talmud Kiddushin).

There is a story in Talmud Succah in which a people threw esrogim who was mis-poured the nisach hamayim. It does not say anywhere that the Chachomim sanctioned this.

Chazon Ish, Steipler and Rav Shach (and all the Gedolim) said this is not the Derech of the ‘Jews’ -in most cases Jews should not riot- there are exceptions to the rule- and for this you need to ask a Rav.

See Artscroll Talmud Kiddushin, in the notes they show a map of Babylon, including Pumbdesia and Sura.

The map shows the River Tigris (west of modern Iraq) and the River Euphrates (east of Modern Iraq) diverging from each other like horns.

On the River Tigris, Pumbdesia is lower down (more south to Eretz Yisroel), Sura is is a bit higher up along the river (more north).

Pumbdesia was alot larger both in size and population, Sura was smaller.

Both are mentioned throughout Shas many times (if anyone can jog my memory to where there mentioned-it would be much appreciated).

As far as I can remember Benjamin of Tudela (the famous traveler) in 1160 went at least as far as Bagdad mentions either Sura or Pumbdesia as still existing in his time.

Esoterically there is a explanation for this. (see Chida and Kabbalistic sources for a elaboration for this, e.g. Girgulim Neshomos of Reshaim are in treif so a person who eats treif abosrb there souls and becomes like them).
