“Can we at least agree on chocolate?”
I don’t think we can.
I like chocolate, but not the same way my wife likes chocolate.
It’s completely different.
September 20, 2016 2:45 pm at 2:45 pm in reply to: Take the TV out of the Restaurant or we will shut you down #1181048MenoParticipantWait, so let me get this straight.
A guy opens a restaurant with a TV, people don’t go there because there’s a TV, these people make it clear to the owner that they’re not going there specifically because of the TV, the owner feels that without these people he won’t get enough business to stay open, so the owner is mad?
MenoParticipantDon’t go behind your parents’ back to get married.
I’ve heard of cases where parents didn’t attend their child’s wedding.
You don’t want that.
MenoParticipantYou’re welcome
September 20, 2016 12:33 pm at 12:33 pm in reply to: Take the TV out of the Restaurant or we will shut you down #1181043MenoParticipantMaybe I don’t understand what a boycott is.
Doesn’t a boycott just mean you don’t eat there? Maybe tell your friends not to eat there? How can that possibly be illegal?
September 20, 2016 12:25 pm at 12:25 pm in reply to: Tell us about your first date with your spouse #1183887MenoParticipantSparkly,
You become invisible when you bowl? That sounds cool
MenoParticipantIs a 70 bad? I’ve had plenty of classes where a 70 was good
September 19, 2016 7:22 pm at 7:22 pm in reply to: Take the TV out of the Restaurant or we will shut you down #1181034MenoParticipantWhat does a private hashgacha mean?
MenoParticipantI didn’t shower today, but it was pouring outside, so it looked as if I had showered.
MenoParticipant“but in one would be way to cramped and uncomfortable”
I agree, especially all these newfangled computers all the kids are using. They’re all so tiny. How do you even use such a thing?
September 19, 2016 1:38 pm at 1:38 pm in reply to: Tell us about your first date with your spouse #1183882MenoParticipant“for the first date should i ask to go bowling if i have the choice”
Ask him to go to a very expensive restaurant. If he says no he’s not worth it.
MenoParticipant“Sparkly…you need a reality check.sorry”
“about the fact that these stem jobs make lots of money?”
No, about this:
“because many guys like working with computers”
I know very few guys who work in computers.
MenoParticipantI’m a man and I love salad.
Egg salad, tuna salad, macaroni salad, potato salad.
What’s the big fuss about?
MenoParticipantMA,
Chill out, he was joking.
He’s a toll collector in the EZ-Pass lane. He has nothing to do all day but make jokes.
MenoParticipant“Let us as a group (coffee room family) take upon ourselves one thing that we will do together for tziva this year”
Asking Jews on the internet to agree on something?
Sounds beautiful, but in all seriousness, you’re just setting yourself up for disappointment.
MenoParticipantHealth,
Ccguy just made a simple statement, “The sciences in Lander were much more rigorous than the CUNY,” and then you started yelling at him about what CUNY stands for, and your “point” that he apparently missed.
What are you talking about? And why are you yelling?
Also,
“Fyi, they’re a lot of schools besides those two!”
Fyi, he said “etc.”
MenoParticipant“Gala,herring,meatloaf,beer are male conspiracy”
When I started reading this I thought you were listing types of salads and I was thinking, “now we’re talking”
September 16, 2016 4:27 pm at 4:27 pm in reply to: Tell us about your first date with your spouse #1183875MenoParticipant“dates throughout engagement”
They do that?
MenoParticipant“Sparkly – why are you asking random people online?”
That is one for the books!
MenoParticipant“if it is the true norm of todays day to have life insurance then why don’t i here too many people talking that they have life insurance? its not like its a personal secret.”
Do you hear people talking that they have car insurance? Homeowner’s/renters insurance? Maybe there’s just not much to talk about.
MenoParticipant“Temporarily on hold” doesn’t make sense?
MenoParticipant“Is that “need” you identified predicated on the dependents still being your dependents at the time the insurance claim would become payable?”
Yes. I’m not buying life insurance just so my kids can be rich, if that’s what you’re asking. If at any point I knew that my dependents would no longer be dependents when I die, I would cancel my policy. Insurance is generally a bad bet. You don’t buy it just to get rich.
“Is that need a certainty, as is the need for an income to live in the here and now, that you compared the two?”
I don’t need an income to live right now. I have enough savings to live for a bit. Does that mean I shouldn’t work? Though I could die tomorrow, in which case my dependents would require my life insurance benefits to survive very soon.
MenoParticipant“You need to work in order to live; you don’t necessarily need life insurance in order to live.”
My dependents need for me to have life insurance in order for them to live. Or is that not my concern?
MenoParticipant“because becoming an engineer is NOT easy”
I know that, but what does that have to do with what I said?
MenoParticipantWhy is buying life insurance any more a lack in bitachon than working?
MenoParticipantColored shirts are otd
But seriously, with the exceptions of a few basic rules about what must be covered, the way one should dress, whether on Shabbos or during the week is completely based on minhag. There are many places where it would be inappropriate to show up in shul in anything other than a suit. On the other hand, there are places in the world where one would look very foolish wearing a suit in shul, and it would therefore be inappropriate to do so.
No halacha sefer will give a blanket statement about what color shirts are acceptable.
MenoParticipantI’m really an engineer. Yet I still don’t understand why you NEED a degree and NEED knowledge.
I worked very hard in school, but I did it because I WANTED to become an engineer and that was pretty much the only way to do it, not because I NEEDED the degree or the knowledge. If I didn’t want to be an engineer, I wouldn’t have put myself through all the trouble.
You seem to answer a lot of “why” questions with “you should know why”. If I knew why, why would I ask?
MenoParticipantSo you would rather be a teacher, but instead you’re studying 24/7 for 7 years just because you “need” a degree and you “need” knowledge?
Sounds like a waste of time to me
MenoParticipant“how would i know if i would hit it off with her?”
Well you both say the exact same things, and use the exact same terminology, and think the exact same things, and ask the exact same questions, and are at the exact same stage in life, and have the exact same plans for life.
Truth is, you probably wouldn’t get along very well. You two are way too similar.
MenoParticipantDo teachers not go to college? Do teachers not have degrees? Do teachers not have knowledge?
MenoParticipantOf course
MenoParticipantSome people do cook and do need to know these halachos right now.
MenoParticipant“ive already said that im obviously not her”
You obviously are her. It’s crazy that you expect people to believe that you’re not
MenoParticipantYes. You don’t have to listen to your parents regarding whom you marry
MenoParticipantWhat’s with the rhyming?
MenoParticipantSyag,
So you’re saying that MsPrincess and Sparkly may have never even existed? That it’s all just a figment of our collective imagination?
Btw, I came across something else that seems very strange:
http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/changed-usernames/page/2#post-621460
MenoParticipantMenoParticipant“I think this whole topic is one big misunderstanding!
I don’t think Sparkly understands the Yeshivishe new slange meaning of “OTD”!”
This^
September 14, 2016 4:31 pm at 4:31 pm in reply to: Blocking traffic while parking (or waiting for a driver to pull out of a spot) #1179738MenoParticipant“Why do people who park by fire hydrants (and stay in their cars) think it’s better not to pull all the way to the curb? It’s just as illegal and it impedes traffic flow.”
And why do they put on their hazard lights? To make it easier for the cops to see them?
MenoParticipantSo MsPrincess died?
Oy… I’m so sorry.
Wait, but then Sparkly can’t be more than 8 months old. I mean, I guess it’s possible, but it sounds crazy.
Unless I don’t fully understand how gilgulim work.
MenoParticipantForget gilgul, I’d bet the same person.
I just read through a few of MsPrincess’ posts.
I didn’t even read so many, but I am 99% sure that she and Sparkly are the same person.
Not even exaggerating.
(Hint: Has anyone ever heard the abbreviation “h’h”?)
MenoParticipantWho’s we?
The title of the thread is physics.
You’re the one talking about mickey mouse and other narishkeit like that.
MenoParticipantSparkly,
“the way to learn is by asking questions. so i can ask questions to learn halachos that way”
But you said you know “plenty more than lots of other halacha teachers”
So if you know so much, why do you need to ask questions to lilmod ulelamaid and us laymen in the coffee room in order to learn halacha?
MenoParticipant“And nothing turns up even in a Google search that seems to make sense”
Google never went to shiur.
September 13, 2016 6:32 pm at 6:32 pm in reply to: Blocking traffic while parking (or waiting for a driver to pull out of a spot) #1179732MenoParticipant“Meno, the guy pulling out sometimes can take unreasonably long till he gets everyone seated, seat belted, finished his drink, turns on the motor and pulls out.”
Yea but there are limited spots in the lot, and as soon as I pull away, the guy is gonna pull out and the guy behind me is gonna get the spot. That’s not fair, I saw it first.
MenoParticipantprincess123?
Last reply was 5 years ago but it sounds like it could be
MenoParticipant“there are no signs anywhere in NY”
There are signs at a lot of the entrances to NYC
“NYC begged for an exemption from this gas-saving policy on grounds that it was too dangerous in such an urban area.”
I thought it was because New Yorkers don’t know how to follow directions. Same reason a lot of right turns have stop signs where there should be yield signs.
September 13, 2016 5:15 pm at 5:15 pm in reply to: Blocking traffic while parking (or waiting for a driver to pull out of a spot) #1179729MenoParticipantWhat about in a parking lot? Everyone is driving around looking for spots, and you see someone getting into their car (or even stalk them while they’re walking to the car), and then you wait for them to get out, blocking everyone behind you (assuming it’s narrow so they can’t get around). Okay or not okay?
MenoParticipant“first off, thanks for renaming the thread”
I totally didn’t realize that it was the same thread just renamed. I was so confused.
MenoParticipantSarcastic is my middle name: Meno Sarcastic…
(I don’t have a last name, so maybe that would mean Sarcastic is my last name. Not sure how that works.)
