April 22, 2021 4:50 pm at 4:50 pm in reply to: According to the Torah, was Chauvin Allowed to Kill Floyd? #1967222MenoParticipant
Why not? He should have gotten justice then.
Do you have a source for this or are you just making up halacha?
MenoParticipantDo all cops carry tasers? What would have been the correct course of action if she weren’t carrying a taser?
MenoParticipantReb Eliezer,
Life is a sink a swim but the holy Torah recognizes the requirement to help people when they are down, so the helpers will helped when they are down. We realize that our wealth comes from the help of Hashem and we are distrihuters of the money provided to us.
Nu, so vote republican and take the extra money from your tax cuts and give it to tzedakah.
February 18, 2021 2:48 pm at 2:48 pm in reply to: EXPLAINER: Covid Regulations Post-Vaccine #1949784MenoParticipantIt’s likely just because it’s easier for them to play it safe. Bottom line is they don’t know anything for sure. Remember “two weeks to flatten the curve”?
No one will have a problem if they suddenly decide to ease up restrictions, but if they decide to tighten restrictions when they said they wouldn’t everyone will call them liars.
February 18, 2021 12:33 pm at 12:33 pm in reply to: EXPLAINER: Covid Regulations Post-Vaccine #1949719MenoParticipantMadeAliyah,
I agree with you on that.
I was disagreeing with the people who said that the point of continuing precautions after everyone is vaccinated is in order to protect those who can’t be vaccinated.
February 18, 2021 11:36 am at 11:36 am in reply to: EXPLAINER: Covid Regulations Post-Vaccine #1949703MenoParticipantI highly doubt the CDC would allow immunocompromised people to be vaccinated if it may be unsafe and likely ineffective.
From the CDC website: “Immunocompromised individuals can receive COVID-19 vaccination if they have no contraindications to vaccination. However, they should be counseled about the unknown vaccine safety profile and effectiveness in immunocompromised populations, and the potential for reduced immune responses and the need to continue to follow all current guidance to protect themselves against COVID-19 (see below).”
Many immunocompromised people are already in protected environments such as a hospital.
I don’t think this is true. There are plenty of people undergoing chemo treatment in outpatient settings. That’s just one example.
February 18, 2021 10:06 am at 10:06 am in reply to: EXPLAINER: Covid Regulations Post-Vaccine #1949682MenoParticipantSo to answer your question; there aren’t ‘people who can’t get vaccinated’.
Well of course they CAN get vaccinated, there’s just no information as to whether the vaccine is safe or effective for those people.
I’m not a doctor, but it would seem reasonable to me that the vaccine would be less effective or completely ineffective on someone who is immunocompromised.
February 18, 2021 9:26 am at 9:26 am in reply to: EXPLAINER: Covid Regulations Post-Vaccine #1949663MenoParticipantThere are ppl hu can’t get vaccinated bec if medical conditions what about them?
So we’ll be wearing masks etc. forever?
MenoParticipantCurrently bitcoin sells for $50,000
Currently a gallon of milk sells for $3.89 at my local ShopRite
MenoParticipantYou can buy Bitcoin with cash at an ATM.
MenoParticipantI believe you can only BUY Bitcoin at the ATMs. You can’t cash out.
MenoParticipantAfter some thought, I realized that I misspoke.
A radiative heater heater can potentially be more efficient than a forced air heater, since it can make the occupants of a room feel warmer without necessarily heating up the air in the room.
MenoParticipantSo make an announcement that you’re saying kaddish for someone else.
If anyone has an issue, they could speak up or daven somewhere else.
MenoParticipantThe CDC guidelines , per their site, give you 10 weeks. I am afraid this will be a terrible deterrent.
It might be a deterrent for some, but the general exemption from quarantine will be an incentive for others. It’s hard to say what the net effect will be.
MenoParticipantAre we saying there’s no such thing as Daas Torah because the term doesn’t exist in Encyclopedia Talmudis?
Well in that case I think I’ll stop “davening” in “shul”.
February 5, 2021 10:59 am at 10:59 am in reply to: Two Frum Community Problems Solved with One Approach #1945621MenoParticipantit seems to me that the idea of the guy paying for the dates is a carry-over from the secular world.
And so is dating.
And so is toilet paper.
Nu nu.
MenoParticipantThey say you shouldn’t eat your esrog because they’re loaded with pesticides. I’m generally a big fan of pesticides but I wouldn’t eat my esrog.
January 27, 2021 4:00 pm at 4:00 pm in reply to: Biden announces restoration of U.S. relations and aid to Palestinians #1943095MenoParticipantHe believes in two state solution and encourages the palestinians to make peace with Israel.
Brilliant. Why has no president ever thought of that before?
MenoParticipantMathematically impossible?
January 25, 2021 10:10 am at 10:10 am in reply to: Is being “eco-friendly” a value that means something to you? #1942231MenoParticipant“בל תשחית” is from the Torah.
I’m so glad you mentioned that. It IS an issur in the Torah to waste money.
MenoParticipantWhat are you talking about?
MenoParticipantHe will still not be your president, whether you are grateful or not.
MenoParticipantOne must show contritiion to get a pardon
Source please?
MenoParticipantPardon/s were institutec as a signal of mercy and not to encourage crooked behavior.
Source please?
MenoParticipantujm,
If you’re concerned about forgetting your password and losing all your bitcoin, there are plenty of simpler ways to buy cryptocurrency without this concern.
You can now buy several forms of cryptocurrency directly through PayPal. There’s probably a fee but it makes things much simpler.
MenoParticipantEver had one of those dreams where you’re trying to tell people a joke but they keep responding as if you’re saying something serious?
That’s this thread.
MenoParticipantWhy would anyone want to win the lottery? Feh
MenoParticipantGH,
I noticed that you refer to the extremists on the left only as “far left”, while you refer to the extremists on the right as “poor misguided terrorists” and “Trump crazies”.
MenoParticipantYou would think. Just like testing ramped up real quick.
MenoParticipantakuperma,
Nothing you said is relevant to this thread.
Assuming the vaccine is effective in general, Biden’s plan is terrible.
MenoParticipantReb Eliezer,
Ok, so why does he think it would be a good idea to give the states more vaccines if they can’t properly distribute the ones they already have?
It’s a completely illogical solution to the problem at hand. If Trump did something like this you would be all up in arms calling him a murderer.
MenoParticipantWhat if they do it for 14 days? Does that ruin it?
MenoParticipantujm,
So your answer is: most likely no.
Someone who has been managing just fine for the past 9 months and will probably be eligible for a vaccine within a month is most likely not in a “chayecha kodmin” (i.e. save yourself at all costs) situation.
MenoParticipantWhat kind of resources does one need to get an ID?
MenoParticipantujm,
Do you think that case is comparable to the case I described?
MenoParticipantReb Eliezer,
Chayecha kodmin.
But I don’t think that’s relevant in the situation I posed. Everyone on line will get the vaccine, although some people will wait longer than others. Granted there’s a small possibility that some people will die while waiting. I’m asking whether that categorizes this as a case of pikuach nefesh which is docheh most issurim.
MenoParticipantHypothetical question:
Say there’s a clinic giving vaccines on a first come, first served basis.
It’s all legal, legit, following guidelines, etc.
You show up and there’s a line three blocks long.
Is it muttar/appropriate to cut the line?
MenoParticipantujm,
Well then you have two reasons to keep wearing a mask.
MenoParticipantGoldilocks,
I see where you’re going, but it’s not likely. The only reason there is a pandemic is because there is a significant group of people who are at high risk if they get infected. If the vaccine prevents those people from getting sick, then it doesn’t really matter that the virus might be spreading. It would no longer be a crisis. At worst it would just be like the common cold.
Also, even if vaccinated people can spread the virus, they probably spread it less than sick people since they get rid of it more quickly.
MenoParticipantThe vaccine hasn’t been proven to prevent the spread of the virus. It has only been proven to prevent the vaccinated person from becoming ill.
I’m not a doctor, but the way I understand it, a vaccine doesn’t prevent a virus from entering your body, it teaches your body how to fight the virus so that you don’t get sick (and that’s what the current vaccines have been proven to do). That doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t transmit the virus to others.
MenoParticipantDefine “have”
MenoParticipantujm,
The Vaccines have not been proven to prevent the spread of covid. They have only been proven to prevent infection. It is possible that one can be a carrier and spread the virus even if not infected.
MenoParticipantThey also don’t know if it will provide immunity
I’m pretty sure you made that up.
December 13, 2020 3:54 pm at 3:54 pm in reply to: Toiveling basic George Foreman without cord getting wet? #1928201MenoParticipantBeisyosef,
Why is that solution better than toveling it and letting it dry?
If someone is concerned about the danger aspect, I think your solution is more dangerous.
December 10, 2020 4:12 pm at 4:12 pm in reply to: Toiveling basic George Foreman without cord getting wet? #1927716MenoParticipantFrom a safety standpoint, the cord is probably the area of least concern. It’s covered with several layers of insulation, and the metal prongs will dry fairly quickly.
Just tovel the whole thing and let it dry. Use a hair dryer to speed up the process.
MenoParticipantThe fact that you’re being honest doesn’t make it less disgusting.
MenoParticipantIf your going to college in order to learn grammar, there’s really no need. You can post in the Coffee Room with bad grammar. Everyone does it.
MenoParticipantI think it was Sunday night
MenoParticipantI think it’s pretty pathetic that in the 21st century, The United States of America can’t come up with a more technologically advanced, unified election system.
I don’t know whether or not voter fraud changed the outcome of the current election, but it is very clear that there are many weak links in the system.
MenoParticipantMaybe someone can help me understand why no one is doing anything about it.
No one is doing anything about it????? There are 100 Coffee Room threads about it!!!!!!
