How can we say every yeshiva is utilizing whatever aid IS available from the government to help frum parents carry the burden when for example there can be free lunch and we are charged $650 per child?!?

    Not following the logic

The public school population is eating “horrible food”??? THey also seem healthier.

    Do they?

    I dont understand??????????????

    Is that a question?

It is prohibited to view women jogging.

Send your wife to scout out the place

Put an NRA sticker on your window. It is probably more effective than actually having a gun.

It is not halachically permissible to look at the solar eclipse without proper eye protection.

    That was your question, right?

Even if you don’t have serious problems, regular maintenance really adds up.

Brake pads, rotors, tires, struts, etc.

You generally don’t have these issues with a leased car.

Why is there a need to lease a decent used car bought with around 8k can be a maintenance free and economical option
Leasing is more money, more insurance and a bad investment.

If you buy a used car, there’s always a chance that it will develop serious problems. If you’re tight on money, you can’t afford to take that risk.

Also, good luck getting a babysitter that would be willing to deal with cloth diapers.

You’d be much better off with cheap off-brand diapers

I’ll bet your parents wore them as it was common when they were kids.

Julius Caesar didn’t have indoor plumbing.

    Doesn’t mean it was practical.

You can use cloth diapers, which are reusable. It’s very practical and saves a ton of money.

Saves a ton of money? Yes

    Very practical? No

often the way we deduce what the details of the mitzvos are is by understanding the reasons for them.

This is simply not true. Perhaps on rare occasion the gemara takes the logic of a mitzva into account, but it is certainly not often.

Most of the Mishna and Gemara deals with the specific details of the Mitzvos, not the reasons for them.

I think the lesson to be learned here is that if you’re making a lavish fleishig party during the 9 days, you shouldn’t do it in a transparent tent.

With the fancy drone cameras they have these days, they can get a great bird’s eye view and see exactly which table is the siyum table, which table is empty, etc.

Maybe they changed to pareve last minute but the wood engravers didn’t have time to make new menus.

If there is a hidden chip then the interaction is beneficial, whether or not I know about it.

Ok so I’ll re-word my question:

Would the possible interaction between the physical key and the electronic mechanism be a halachic problem if that interaction were neither easily detectable nor beneficial?

What if the physical key has an electronic chip in it but that chip is not detectable or visible and you wouldn’t know about it unless you broke the key apart or looked up the device’s technical specs?

Or made a regular copy and tried it.

I’m almost positive that the physical keys are just regular keys. Otherwise you would be stuck if the batteries died

If it is electronic and has an electronic keypad and timer, even if it has a physical key feature, that physical key will almost surely be interacting with the units electronic mechanism.

Is that a problem if it makes no detectable change?

    Sorry, I should’ve specified.

The feature in which I am interested is that which allows you to give access to specific people only for specific times (e.g. if I wanted to rent out my house for a day). I would also like the ability to set it up remotely, but I could live without that.

Also I would need it to function on shabbos in a permissible way (for me, with a regular key).

So here’s an update for all you folks who are following along at home:

I couldn’t help myself, and I decided to cut one open last night.

It wasn’t ready yet. It was only dried about .150″ deep from the surface (the salami is about 1.75″ Diameter).

It wasn’t bad, it was just more like regular salami than dried salami. There might be a way to hang it back up, but I’m too nervous to try that and also I cut the side with the string. I think I’ll wait another two weeks for the next one.

Drying salami is definitely a good exercise in self-control.
