How can we say every yeshiva is utilizing whatever aid IS available from the government to help frum parents carry the burden when for example there can be free lunch and we are charged $650 per child?!?
Not following the logic
The public school population is eating “horrible food”??? THey also seem healthier.
Do they?
I dont understand??????????????
Is that a question?
August 2, 2017 10:32 am at 10:32 am in reply to: Protection from Crime in Dangerous Communities #1330710MenoParticipantIt is prohibited to view women jogging.
Send your wife to scout out the place
August 2, 2017 9:12 am at 9:12 am in reply to: Protection from Crime in Dangerous Communities #1330591MenoParticipantPut an NRA sticker on your window. It is probably more effective than actually having a gun.
MenoParticipantIs this the guy with the tattoo?
MenoParticipantRebshidduch,
To answer your questions: no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
Did I get all of them?
MenoParticipantIt is not halachically permissible to look at the solar eclipse without proper eye protection.
That was your question, right?
July 27, 2017 1:24 pm at 1:24 pm in reply to: cost of living for a young couple in lakewood #1326726MenoParticipantEven if you don’t have serious problems, regular maintenance really adds up.
Brake pads, rotors, tires, struts, etc.
You generally don’t have these issues with a leased car.
July 27, 2017 12:53 pm at 12:53 pm in reply to: cost of living for a young couple in lakewood #1326584MenoParticipantWhy is there a need to lease a decent used car bought with around 8k can be a maintenance free and economical option
Leasing is more money, more insurance and a bad investment. If you buy a used car, there’s always a chance that it will develop serious problems. If you’re tight on money, you can’t afford to take that risk.
July 27, 2017 9:40 am at 9:40 am in reply to: cost of living for a young couple in lakewood #1326114MenoParticipantAlso, good luck getting a babysitter that would be willing to deal with cloth diapers.
You’d be much better off with cheap off-brand diapers
July 27, 2017 9:32 am at 9:32 am in reply to: cost of living for a young couple in lakewood #1326109MenoParticipantI’ll bet your parents wore them as it was common when they were kids.
Julius Caesar didn’t have indoor plumbing.
Doesn’t mean it was practical.
July 27, 2017 8:58 am at 8:58 am in reply to: cost of living for a young couple in lakewood #1326093MenoParticipantYou can use cloth diapers, which are reusable. It’s very practical and saves a ton of money.
Saves a ton of money? Yes
Very practical? No
MenoParticipantoften the way we deduce what the details of the mitzvos are is by understanding the reasons for them.
This is simply not true. Perhaps on rare occasion the gemara takes the logic of a mitzva into account, but it is certainly not often.
MenoParticipantMost of the Mishna and Gemara deals with the specific details of the Mitzvos, not the reasons for them.
July 26, 2017 10:47 am at 10:47 am in reply to: Out Of The Mailbag: (Flatbush Kiddush: Tznius & Drinking Out Of Control) #1325571MenoParticipantI agree with RebYidd23. Very well said.
July 25, 2017 6:27 pm at 6:27 pm in reply to: Respectful Discussion About Lavish Fleshing (Alcoholic) Event By BMG🍷🍾🥂🍺🥃🍻🥓🍖 #1325300MenoParticipantTzafni, this has nothing to do with the editorial staff of the yeshiva world. This is the coffee room. It’s a public forum. Anyone can start a topic
MenoParticipantBut isn’t the entire Torah sheBaal Peh dedicated to understanding the mitzvos and the reasons we do them?
No
July 25, 2017 3:50 pm at 3:50 pm in reply to: Respectful Discussion About Lavish Fleshing (Alcoholic) Event By BMG🍷🍾🥂🍺🥃🍻🥓🍖 #1325226MenoParticipantI wonder what a sous vide egg yolk looks like
July 25, 2017 3:02 pm at 3:02 pm in reply to: Respectful Discussion About Lavish Fleshing (Alcoholic) Event By BMG🍷🍾🥂🍺🥃🍻🥓🍖 #1325176MenoParticipantI think the lesson to be learned here is that if you’re making a lavish fleishig party during the 9 days, you shouldn’t do it in a transparent tent.
With the fancy drone cameras they have these days, they can get a great bird’s eye view and see exactly which table is the siyum table, which table is empty, etc.
July 25, 2017 2:28 pm at 2:28 pm in reply to: Respectful Discussion About Lavish Fleshing (Alcoholic) Event By BMG🍷🍾🥂🍺🥃🍻🥓🍖 #1325140MenoParticipantPhilly Yid, how do you know they actually served that?
Maybe they changed to pareve last minute but the wood engravers didn’t have time to make new menus.
MenoParticipantIf there is a hidden chip then the interaction is beneficial, whether or not I know about it.
MenoParticipantOk so I’ll re-word my question:
Would the possible interaction between the physical key and the electronic mechanism be a halachic problem if that interaction were neither easily detectable nor beneficial?
MenoParticipantWhat if the physical key has an electronic chip in it but that chip is not detectable or visible and you wouldn’t know about it unless you broke the key apart or looked up the device’s technical specs?
Or made a regular copy and tried it.
I’m almost positive that the physical keys are just regular keys. Otherwise you would be stuck if the batteries died
MenoParticipantIf it is electronic and has an electronic keypad and timer, even if it has a physical key feature, that physical key will almost surely be interacting with the units electronic mechanism.
Is that a problem if it makes no detectable change?
MenoParticipantSorry, I should’ve specified.
The feature in which I am interested is that which allows you to give access to specific people only for specific times (e.g. if I wanted to rent out my house for a day). I would also like the ability to set it up remotely, but I could live without that.
Also I would need it to function on shabbos in a permissible way (for me, with a regular key).
MenoParticipantNevermind. Reviews are horrible.
Anyone know of anything else similar that actually works?
July 24, 2017 3:34 pm at 3:34 pm in reply to: I think I’ve found a way to quote that’s better than italics #1324634MenoParticipantWhy is this better than italics?
MenoParticipantIs the Mishna one of the Seforim Hakedoshim?
July 24, 2017 10:25 am at 10:25 am in reply to: Strangest thing you’ve put on a burger 🍔 🍳🥗🥔🥞🍩🍋🍿 #1324401MenoParticipantLast night I was considering egg salad.
The only reason I didn’t do it is because the egg salad had been in the fridge for a while.
July 19, 2017 1:12 pm at 1:12 pm in reply to: Should we stop bochurim from chilling and drinking beer at a bbqs.🍻🍖 #1321041MenoParticipantBesides for danger what about hashgachikly its very gotish
It’s true. Many beers only have an OR, which I have learned is a very goyish hashgacha
MenoParticipantSorry, it was a typing error.
That doesn’t quite clear everything up…
MenoParticipantI hate crocs. I really don’t find them comfortable.
And they make it very difficult to run in the event that you are being chased by a hyena.
MenoParticipantI think it’s supposed to be a yeshivish pronunciation of bow tie
MenoParticipantSo here’s an update for all you folks who are following along at home:
I couldn’t help myself, and I decided to cut one open last night.
It wasn’t ready yet. It was only dried about .150″ deep from the surface (the salami is about 1.75″ Diameter).
It wasn’t bad, it was just more like regular salami than dried salami. There might be a way to hang it back up, but I’m too nervous to try that and also I cut the side with the string. I think I’ll wait another two weeks for the next one.
Drying salami is definitely a good exercise in self-control.
MenoParticipantHave they not yet come out with kosher glue?
MenoParticipantI don’t like how you all are misleading rebyidd. There’s no syrup in egg creams
MenoParticipantyitzyk,
Thank you very much. I genuinely appreciate the info.
MenoParticipantObviously. that is true of any phone call you make.
I actually said that as a joke, but based on what iacisrmma said, it might be better if you don’t say why you’re calling.
MenoParticipantHow much they paid on their last water bill
That is terribly rude. This is why there’s a shidduch crisis.
MenoParticipantYou shouldnt say anything
I fervently disagree. You should tell them who you are and why you’re calling.
MenoParticipantBy definition, girls aren’t normal.
In fact, most people other than me are not normal.
MenoParticipantWhy is that any better than mine?
The A and the O which were inside are now outside
MenoParticipantI’ve heard 3-4 weeks depending on the conditions and preference.
Yesterday was 2 weeks. They look and feel pretty dry but I really have no idea how to tell.
MenoParticipantNo, I wanted to make sure they come out good first.
I’m very tempted to cut one open.
MenoParticipantAvirilo
MenoParticipantAsk if the guy is normal. That’s may favorite question
MenoParticipantCTL,
This is either a vitamins thread or a chopped liver thread. You have to pick a side. You can’t play for both teams.
MenoParticipantWe’ll then mine must’ve been ready weeks ago
MenoParticipantRoviali
MenoParticipantHow do I know when it’s ready?
MenoParticipantI’ve never met an elephant trainer who doesn’t keep shabbos
