I wonder how many of those ehrliche yidden davening for the opportunity to be mekayem ” more mitzvos that they don’t fulfill for one reason or other” are already being mekayem 100% of the ones they can.

    Probably none. So what?

There are plenty of poskim/gedolim/talmidei chachomim who hold that the techeiles that is available today should not be worn.

A kosher succah is a kosher succah…..is their an inyan of going back to through the construction process to determine who held the hammer and nailed which board…
A succah made with the wrong intent or by the wrong person is actually not a kosher succah, so there would be an inyan to go back and make sure it was built according to Halacha

How is the passing driver to know whether the other car that he’s passing will apply the brakes

By using your brain. If you pull too closely in front of him, he will be required to apply the brakes in order to avoid hitting you.

Cutting off a car requires that car to apply the brakes to avoid hitting you.

I’m not a lawyer, but I believe that in at least some (maybe most/all) states, “speeding” is defined as driving above the speed limit for a given distance. Driving above the speed limit over a relatively short distance is not speeding, and therefore would be legal while passing, as CTLAWYER said.

The reason people burn the other 3 minim with the chometz is because it helps burn the chometz. There’s no special inyan to burn your daled minim, it’s just that once you used them for a mitzvah, there’s an inyan to use them for another mitzvah. I don’t think this would apply to esrogim.

What’s the point in burning it with the chometz? Does fruit actually help the fire burn?

Multigrain cheerios contain a lot of stuff other than oats (corn, rice. etc). It’s possible that the brocha acharona is actually borei n’fashos even if the brocha rishona is mezonos.

Unless you run an organization (i do) you really have no clue what costs are…

Seems quite a few posters aren’t getting my question.

My question was not “Why are the prices so high?”

My question was “Why do the prices differ from one day to the next?”

If the prices were the same every day, I would have not have asked my question.

    Again, not complaining, just asking.

I think the thread title implies otherwise.

Yea that was just clickbait. Seems to have worked quite well.

CTLAWYER, I was asking about upkeep in a case where the Mikva wasn’t being used most of the year. I think most of the expenses you listed wouldn’t apply in that case.

CTRebbe (hey do you guys know each other?), no one is complaining about high prices. I was just asking why the price is higher on erev yom tov

How much do you think the fee would be if a special mikva was built just for the 2x a year mikva goers and the fees from those 2 days had to support the mikva for the entire year.

Assuming the original construction was already paid for, is there any other major upkeep if no one is using it?

Isn’t there a difference between shabbos and other “issurim”?

On shabbos there are issues of daber davar and being neheneh from m’leches shabbos

I think Rabbi Ribiat says in his sefer that it is assur for these reasons to ask someone else to do something on shabbos which you yourself wouldn’t do (e.g. opening bottles)

Disclaimer: I might have made all of this up.

I buy the fillets in the blue package, I don’t remember the name (Santa something?).

I put in onions, coarse black pepper, onions, and either canola oil or tofutti parve sour cream. Very good both ways and much cheaper than buying the containers.

    apushatayid,

10x money means 10x the money. That should easily cover all the things you mentioned.

I would like to point out that I am not complaining, and I am very happy to pay the fee, whatever it may be. I was just wondering what the rationale is. Some good points have been made in this thread, but the argument that “more people = higher prices” just doesn’t seem to add up.

I’ll bet your wife pays 12 times a year at least double what you’re paying twice a year.

You should go to the Mikva at least every Erev Shabbos, if not every day, not just twice a year.

Not sure why any of that is relevant

    apushatayid,

im willing to bet erev yom kippur the mikveh sees 10x the number of men than a normal erev shabbos.

And that also means 10x the money to cover all the things you mentioned. That doesn’t explain why they charge a higher rate.

Most places seem to be about $5 or $10 on Erev Yom Tov.

The place I went was $15 (early bird special). I’ve only been to this place one time other than erev yom tov, and it was around $5 (maybe $8)

Aren’t Shul’s entitled to use this as a form of raising funds, whether for the Mikva or even general operating expenses? I don’t see why not. They are a Makom Kodesh not a capitalistic enterprise.

Shouldn’t they just normally charge enough to cover general operating expenses?

    bishul Akum is always prohibited

I’m pretty sure this is not true. If I’m not mistaken, it’s only prohibited for foods which are oleh al shulchan m’lochim.

Canned tuna is a good example of something which is often bishul akum, but still considered acceptable by many.

So they’re gonna have a separate truck going around to collect this stuff, spilling half of it all over the street (because that’s what they do with all the garbage), then they’ll have to run it through some type of processing (because there’s always the moron who thinks his empty potato chip bag is considered food scraps) just for a bag of fertilizer which costs like 8 bucks at home depot?

Whatever is biodegradable will biodegrade just fine in a regular landfill. I don’t understand the point of all this (except to make Joseph happy, of course).
