December 13, 2017 9:26 am at 9:26 am in reply to: Is it acceptable to go for a walk on the 1st date? #1426367MenoParticipant
This is what’s wrong with shiduchim. All this babying of the woman. How is the guy supposed to function when he’s all caught up with making sure you are perfectly comfortable and you judge the date on how perfectly comfortable he made you?
You know what’s wrong with shidduchim (and marriages)? The fact that some guys think buying a girl a soda from Duane Reade and asking her if she would prefer to do something else instead of walking is considered “babying”.
December 5, 2017 4:01 pm at 4:01 pm in reply to: Where do you place your hat during Shachris? #1419425MenoParticipantJust wear a kipah sigurah and not worry about where to put the hats…..
I’ve never heard of this “kipah sigurah”. Is it some kind of kipah that finds you a place to put your hat?
Sounds fascinating.
December 5, 2017 12:17 pm at 12:17 pm in reply to: Where do you place your hat during Shachris? #1418880MenoParticipantI carry a little hook with a suction cup in my tallis bag, so I just need to find a window or other smooth surface on which to stick it.
December 4, 2017 3:33 pm at 3:33 pm in reply to: He’s Hot, She’s Cold; Windows Open or Closed? #1417937MenoParticipantLF, here’s what you do:
Put your blanket in the freezer, then put the freezer in the microwave. Should come out just right.
December 4, 2017 12:22 pm at 12:22 pm in reply to: Why are the lakewood rabbanim so against an eruv in thier Town?? #1417840MenoParticipantThey’re trying to be like Brooklyn.
(Where’s jakob?)
MenoParticipantI would like to point out that I wasn’t just being a curmudgeon when I pointed out that the words were misspelled. The point I was trying to make is that this phrase (as well as many phrases in gemara) can be easily understood if you understand the individual words. If you get the individual words wrong, you will have a more difficult time figuring out the meaning of the phrase.
In this case, the correct phrase is “m’heicha teissi”. The word “heicha” means “where”. The word “heichi” means something completely different (probably “how”).
MenoParticipantWait, did you mean “m’heicha teissi”?
If so, MDG’s answer seems good to me.
MenoParticipantI’ve never seen either of those phrases anywhere (mechi teissi or m’hechi teissi)
MenoParticipantI don’t mix my cholent.
I just put all the ingredients in the pot and let it do its thing.
MenoParticipantIt causes Sfeikie [sic] B’Emunah…
But I hear it helps with reading comprehension…
MenoParticipantDoes this shul have a Rov?
MenoParticipantThe “chulent mix” that I buy is just a mix of beans. You can just use whatever beans you like, the proportions are not too important.
MenoParticipantBut a rebbe cannot be elected. Its who he is.
Maybe I’m the rebbe. How would I know?
MenoParticipantthe rebbe CAN be moshiach. Its not definite that he is, but then theres no reason that he isnt. Moshiach can be from the dead so thats not an issue.
Oh. So what’s all this hock about?
MenoParticipant5ish, do you seriously believe that it’s impossible to daven properly before the z’man? It sounds very, very shver.
This, and also, what percentage of people who are davening after the zman actually use that extra time to prepare themselves?
I would bet that it’s a very small percentage.
MenoParticipantThen please explain the term high-gluten when it comes to bread flour.
Simple. It’s flour with a lot of something that doesn’t exist.
MenoParticipantI didn’t know they was in the Five Towns too.
Spoken like a true New Yorker
MenoParticipantGluten isn’t a real thing. It’s just a myth invented by the same people who gave me this stupid brown garbage can.
MenoParticipantOmgosh the Five Towns…Are so cute
This is certainly up for debate (and I’m sure it has been debated extensively), but I think you would say “is” not “are”.
November 27, 2017 4:26 pm at 4:26 pm in reply to: Where did all these Chabad warriors come from? #1413093MenoParticipantIsn’t YWN a Chabad news site?
MenoParticipantThis thread has become one big circus.
November 27, 2017 2:01 pm at 2:01 pm in reply to: ACHDUS! Chabad And Judaism Are One! Let’s Bring Moshiach Together #1412827MenoParticipantI really don’t get how the mods let this stuff through…
MenoParticipantIm certain you are kidding, but in case you think it is hard to prove. The easiest way is go to aa lab have your blood drawn with a vacutainer (a standard blood vial) . By definition there is no oxygen in the tube the blood appears in the tube exactly as in your body it is not blue.
I was kidding, but I appreciate your response anyway. Interesting.
How do they keep the vial free from oxygen?
MenoParticipantThere’s amazing videos…
Wow. Now I’m convinced
MenoParticipantWho ever thought blood was blue?
I did, and I still do. Prove to me otherwise.
MenoParticipantI really don’t get the point of opening a new thread and then just giving a worse explanation than the previous thread.
You literally give no sources for anything you say (other than mentioning that something is stated in a Rambam somewhere, which I happen to be very skeptical about).
November 24, 2017 10:25 am at 10:25 am in reply to: Machlokes over Eruv versus Machlokes over sports #1410944MenoParticipantWhat (frum) community is fighting over sports?
MenoParticipantIt’s definitely more risky to carry around cash.
If your credit card info gets stolen, in almost all cases it is very easy to get your money back. It has happened to me several times, and I have never had any problems.
It’s much more likely that cash will fall out of your pocket or get stolen, in which case it will be gone forever. I rarely use cash for anything.
Also, I’m not totally sure about this, but I think if you have a card with a chip (as you probably do), most skimmers won’t work anyway.
MenoParticipantWhat?
MenoParticipantHow do you know?
MenoParticipantThis thread has been very informative, but there is one issue that no one seems to have addressed:
What is the practical difference between a “chabadnik”, a “chabadsker”, and a “Lubavitcher”?
MenoParticipantUmmm.. I just swiped my chipified credit card to buy a bottle of water at a super high traffic kiosk… sat down, and then remembered the risks…
Oh no. I hope no one stole your credit card info and used it to buy 4 million dollars worth of packing peanuts.
MenoParticipantI imagine that the frequency of asking shailos depends a lot on one’s level of education.
It does, but not the way many people think it does.
MenoParticipantWhy aren’t you asking your dentist these questions?
The impression I got was that goldilocks is planning on performing this procedure on him/herself.
November 17, 2017 9:54 am at 9:54 am in reply to: Yeshiva Boys Are Allowed To Wear Colored Shirts! #1405210MenoParticipantDoes anyone here know of any yeshiva where there is a requirement for bochurim to wear white shirts and the bochurim have a significant issue with it?
I understand that people don’t see a reason/logic, but if the bochurim don’t have a problem with it, why would anyone else have a problem with it? Why make a big deal out of nothing?
MenoParticipantThanks for that addendum, Joseph.
Though I don’t think anyone actually said that in this thread. Certainly not enough people to warrant including it in the nutshell.
MenoParticipantHere’s 90% of this thread in a nutshell:
Side A: Shaitels are assur because there are so many poskim who say they’re assur, and it makes no logical sense that they should be muttar, because they look exactly like real hair, and therefore anyone that wears a shaitel is transgressing a terrible issur.
Side B: Granted there are many poskim who say shaitels are assur, and it might not seem to make sense, but there are also many reliable poskim who say shaitels are muttar, and apparently hold that the fact that shaitels look like real hair is not an issue, and therefore the people who wear shaitels are doing something which is completely acceptable.
(I disregarded the first part of the thread which discusses avodah zarah because that’s a completely different issue)
November 16, 2017 12:34 pm at 12:34 pm in reply to: Yeshiva Boys Are Allowed To Wear Colored Shirts! #1404802MenoParticipantActually white is made up of all the colors so white shirts should be worse than all colored shirts put together.
MenoParticipantmiri97,
If you read through this thread you will find a good number of solid arguments refuting most of your points.
MenoParticipantYour best bet is to find some local chassideshe hashgacha
In Cherry Hill?
MenoParticipantI’m not really sure what that’s supposed to mean
MenoParticipantThe entire mitzvah is about modesty-
Rav Moshe Feinstein was probably unaware of this.
MenoParticipantI just read R’ Moshe’s Teshuvos, which DY posted earlier. I’m confident that anyone who is speculating whether R’ Moshe would’ve given the same p’sak today simply hasn’t read the teshuva. R’ Moshe’s psak is very clear.
MenoParticipant“the truth is hard to hear“
It is, isn’t it
MenoParticipant“electric devises”? “adgournment”? “premitted”? “priviledge”? “foreited”? “sentece”?
Are you sure this isn’t from a Nigerian prince?
MenoParticipantI’m not trying to debate if wigs are assur or mutar
Coulda fooled me
November 10, 2017 10:08 am at 10:08 am in reply to: Proper etiquette for bochor speaking to girl’s parents #1400984MenoParticipantIf you really want to make a good impression, the best thing to do is to take some and put it in your pocket for later.
It shows that you’re sensible.
Or if you really wanna steal the show, ask if they have any leftovers they’re trying to get rid of.
MenoParticipantOn OOT unpaved roadways and sidewalks? I’d venture its more likely if it is even walkable rather than requiring a car, which can be avoided in town.
Joseph,
Have you ever even been out of Brooklyn?
MenoParticipantFrom the World Peekaboo Association’s Official Rule Book:
“‘Peekaboo’ is to be exclaimed at the moment the Peekabooer’s face becomes visible to his/her opponent.”
So technically you could uncover your face and then subsequently turn your head while peekabooing, but it’s a bad strategy in my opinion.
MenoParticipantactually the words yetzer hora and sa’arah (hair) have the same gematria too
With gematrias like these, who needs halacha?
