Ask Reb Dovid Feinstein if cholov stam is muttar.

Why can’t you just tell us what Reb Dovid Feinstein says?

since when do we change a Halacha that was practiced thousands of years based on a teshuva that was sent to a specific person in a specific situation

Are you saying we can’t pasken halacha based on anything in Igros Moshe?

The OP’s question is not clear at all, so I’ll just make an assumption as to what the OP meant, and then I will answer as follows:

A picture is an image printed or painted on some sort of paper or canvas. The appearance of the image remains virtually unchanged regardless of where it is placed.

A mirror is generally a piece of glass with a silver colored backing which reflects most of the light that reaches it. Due to its reflective properties, someone looking at the mirror would see a an image of nearby objects rather than some fixed image.

    Does this answer your question?

Show me a serious Ben Torah in colored shirts no Mayer where they live

I know plenty of serious Bnei Torah who wear colored shirts. And there is a mayor where they live. I even know one that is named Mayer.

The production companies most probably do not want people showing up at their plants to buy a gallon of milk.

That’s how the whole wholesale/retail system works.

So you can’t get a job because you’re living in a hick town and they want you to work on shabbos, while your wife and kids are in brooklyn, and the only reason I’ve heard so far why you can’t move out to be with your wife and kids and get a job is that you will be leaving your seforim behind. Meanwhile, people have been giving suggestions and you just seem to ignore them and keep insisting that you have no more options.

Honestly I’m not sure what you’re looking for here.

Josh, after reading your original post, I am a little bit confused.

    You basically make two statements:

Statement #1: “GMOs cause sterility in the third generation of those mammals that consume them” (This seems to be the point everyone is discussing)

Statement #2: “GMOs would be strictly prohibited by Jewish Law, in the event they were ever legalized because they were an abomination in the eyes of the Lord” (This seems to be your main point)

What is the connection between these two statements?

    Meno
    Participant

The problem here is that when you take genes from a jellyfish and splice them into a tomato using a modified form of the Ebola virus as the mechanism, this is an abomination in the eyes of the Lord.

Practical halacha is determined by poskim using a specific process. It is not determined based on philosophical concepts such as “this is an abomination in the eyes of the Lord”.

Is your issue that Oorah is not considered a tzedaka and therefore it is not a suitable use of maaser money?

Or is your issue that you are getting something in return, and therefore it is not a suitable use of maaser money?

    What is the Rechnitz Challenge?

If the Yeshiva raises $3M by a certain time, then Rechnitz will donate another $1M.

Otherwise, Rechnitz dumps a bucket of ice water over Joseph’s head.

The halachic sources say that you are not permitted to even ask the price of an item if you have no intention of purchasing.

    Thanks.

Do you think that in light of what I said, the practical halacha might be different?

If you’re afraid that a gift to your Rabbi might be inappropriate, you should not rely solely on the advice of any Coffee Room member.

This is really the type of issue that you should discuss with…..your Rabbi.

You are not permitted to even ask the price of an item if you have no intention of purchasing

I don’t know what the halachic sources say about this, but I would imagine that a vast majority of merchants would prefer that people come in and ask about price even if they have no intention of buying. Salespeople would love any opportunity they can get to convince you to buy.

I’ve heard that it has roots in avodah zara.

I just read the Wikipedia article. The origins aren’t totally clear, but it seems very likely that it does in fact have origins in avodah zara. I certainly wouldn’t want to take a chance with it just to be “cute and sappy”.

I may or may not be an accountant, but I don’t think the standard deduction has anything to do with dependent exemptions. You can take the standard deduction regardless of whether or not you are taking dependent exemptions.

All products require checking labels. As a frum Jew….

My point was not that I have a problem with checking labels. My point was that cotton was once the standard (so much so that you could assume it without checking labels), but that is not the case anymore.

Socks are often made of cotton now (as well as wool and many manufactured fabrics). New socks, feel like, new socks.

10 years ago, you could buy Hanes socks and assume they were made of cotton without even looking at the package.

Today, you would be hard-pressed to find a package of 100% cotton Hanes socks.

I’m just using Hanes as an example. The same is true of other companies.
