hud sorry I didnt mean to insult you, believe me I love united states as much as you do, l lived there half of my life and all my kids went to yeshivas there and actually I miss it. But what I was saying is this, Here in Mexico there is a very big community of ashkenaz speaking irreligous jews that love Yidish and really do not love mitzvot and when you live in Brooklyn you cannot imagine that in other places people could speak a perfect Yidish and not be frum. Thats what I was trying to say. And by the way is ladino holy? My parents spoke arabic , Is arabic holy? And since I am sephardic many years ago people used to question , How come you are jewish and you do not speak Yidish?
mazcaMemberWolfishMusings, I will like you to post in Spanish and see how well you can manage a second languague.
mazcaMemberWell in Mexico it has been the law for a while that a nun cannot go into the street with a nun garment. You do not see too many nuns walking around their garment in the street, sometimes they do , but definitly is against the law. And this could work both ways in a way because Mexico is against religion in general that we have freedom to be jews. All public schools are not allow to teach any Sreligion. and well being a catholic country, who knows what is in their minds. So frum jews coming out on shabbos with their tallis over their heads is not a good idea.
mazcaMemberAll jews must speak Yiddish so if a jew is sephardy and never heard Yiddish. Is he jewish?

mazcaMemberOnces I was in Mount Sinai hospital in New York and I went to the room where sick people were having radiation and I met this woman that was very sick they had taken off her throat because of the cigarrette her eye was also affected from the smoke and probably her lips, nebaj very , very sick and guess what? she was still smoking, true story I saw it with my own eyes. Scary isnt it? Defintely she was killing herself.
mazcaMemberWell like always people in the United States think that you are in the center of the world but sorry to dissapoint you, you are not in the center of the world, and there are a lot of jews all over that is why is called diaspora. Well when the jews immigrated to the united States it was a country with a lot of public schools ,so believe it or not you were the lucky ones, because when jews from europe came to other contries there were not as many public schools as in the States so they brought with them the great Yiddish School with them, and brought a lot of apicurosut from Europe, so in the United States if somebody wanted to have their children in private school the only private schools they found were yeshivas but in places like in Mexico where we have a Tarbut and Yiddish movement that they brought with them from Europe did nothing but made the people that were frum less frum. So if you really think Yiddish has saved the jews, sorry to dissapoint you it has hurt people and a lot of people, here people speak better Yiddish than any rosh yeshiva, you could come here for classes and you wont be dissapointed but if you want to learn a little torah you are not going to find any in those schools. So open your eyes, do not fool yourselves it is beautiful to speak the languague of our ancestors but it is more beautiful to keep their mitzvot.
mazcaMemberI know of a whole group of people that have a school and only learn yiddish in perfection, have yiddish plays and thinks yiddish is more important than Torah, you who live in New York, do not know how bad the Yiddish impolse have given to other parts of the world as a matter of fact it has taken people away from Torah and Mitzvot.

mazcaMemberWhat do you think ? Should a rebbe display his Mont Blanc pen to the students? Isn’t that giving a wrong message?
mazcaMembermazal77 we are all learning a lot from this thread BH it was posted, so now when we shop we should be more concious of how to honor , spend and be happy with every thing we have. thank you.
mazcaMemberDo you see the message of the poem? Great!!
mazcaMemberYes a person could what they please, no question about it, we were just discusting if it is right, we have a saying “If it fits you wear it” and I mean about the critizicim. and this goes to all the people that got insulted because we just said it is not correct to make label wearing the abodazara of this generation, I am not exempt, but sometimes it fits sometimes it doesnt . Why an a person realize they are wrong and try to defend themselves by putting people down, of course derech erets is very important and a person should learn how to act between human beings and stop being arrogant like I said before we are nothing but dust.
mazcaMemberDear hud and bev, you really do not know who are you talking to if you feel you are wealthy enough to buy wathever you want do so . That does not mean it is the right thing to do , one thing is to be a well dress clean person and another thing is to overdue your position in life. Here we are talking about frum religious jews not a bunch of show offs that think that clothing makes them. A person is made by his acts, wayof thinking and truthfullly tzeniut in the way they dress not only according to halachah but also according to normal sense. A person who is wealthy could buywhatever he wants that does not mean a person is right, Hashem has given money to people to do right not to show off. Believe me I probably do have more money than you and it does not make me right to over spend it.I live very comfortably bli ain hara I have a maid and go on tons of cruises and the only reason I am saying this is because you have no idea who I am otherwise I wouldnt even mention it to you. I also have designer clothing and I am not green jealous like you say, but I do think it is wrong that people think just because they are able to spend on designer clothing they are better people, we have to teach our children the real values in life , like chessed, tzedakah, helping others, and keeping the mitzvot the right way , not by thinking if I am able to buy labels I am a better person. So it surely does not make us right, and we have to know that it is wrong. Specially trying to put people down just because they cannot buy the same items like we do. IT is wrong.. Sorry, and if you are frum be frum with your thinking, Hashem has made us all equal and at the end of this world only our mitzvos are going to come with us because your closet full of designer clothing , expensive shoes, and fancy ties, are going to stay in this world. and we come from dust and we turn into dust, everybody does, no exception/.
mazcaMemberGOOD IDEA!! and tzeniut too.
mazcaMemberOf course they feel the need to show off because they never have enough.
mazcaMemberThe funny thing a wealthy person never sees himself as wealthy because no matter how much he has he always feels a lack. I know people who bought Couch pocketbooks and feel they are cheap because they are not Louis Vitton ones.
mazcaMemberYes mybat and you know how it hurts to see people spending one thousand dollars on a pair of shoes and see other people struggling to buy food. I cannot change the world but it surely bothers me a lot.
mazcaMemberJust-a-guy, I approve with you.
mazcaMemberThe labol in the clothing is out of hand in these days consumers shop and buy all types of articles because the names, well if I am the manufacturer I love it. Me as a consumer I love it when I get it on sale. Some people love the fact that they can buy supposedly better items, better quality, sometimes it is better , sometimes it is just a name, sometimes it is a little better butit is not for the price difference.
We have to teach our children in yeshivas and at home the importance of looking clean well iron but not the importance of wearing designer items. I think it is a problem in these days. Even little first graders want a designer knapsacks.
mazcaMembershe means people enjoy baking, people enjoy showing off. What’s the difference?lol
mazcaMemberyes just start a thread about spending money you do not have in label items, and expensive pocket books and the works , just so people should feel good about themselve.
mazcaMemberI know a lot of people that were mugged and robbed in Brooklyn at gun point for their rings just outside their homes, who are you kidding me. It is dangerous to be austentatious all over the world. I used to work in a jewelery store in Manhattan and we had a robbery there, and plenty of people came trying to sell stolen items, and my neighbors houses in brooklyn were ramsacked. Don’t fool yourself. There is danger all over the world not only latin america.
mazcaMemberWell I think I am very wrong but it feels good to wear something nice and cool
October 16, 2009 12:10 am at 12:10 am in reply to: Labels – How Do You See Yourself? How Do Others See You? #662607mazcaMemberlabels has become the way of life these days, what watch, what brand name of shoes, what fancy purse, labels, labels, labels, people pay a lot of money for labels. But to label somebody because of his ways is just plain Loshon Horah
mazcaMemberanon for this Thanks for your beautiful explanation. I love it.
mazcaMemberWell I have been reading your comments, and I think well I am not a Rav but I think that tzenius depends a lot were a person lives and the costums of that comunity. If in a certain community the women have to have their heads double covered and somebody doesnt abide by it. Then that woman is not keeping the laws of tzenius right. If a woman has to have a thick stockings in her community and she doesnt , I think she is not keeping the laws of tzenius right. Of course there are certain basis that a frum woman has to keep. We all agree to that. But it all dependes in her community.
mazcaMembermazcaMembergood evening, good day, good night, good morning, wherever you are.
mazcaMembernobody answer my questions, where do we draw the line? JUDGING GOOD or being a fool
mazcaMemberIt is very important to judge people favorably but until when there is a line of being a fool and judging people properly
mazcaMemberI guess there is humor in everything, Be Happy everybody
mazcaMemberI guess there are customs that came up with time, but truthly I still do not understand why to make women dancing a custom.
mazcaMemberBelieve it or not we all have a big impact in this world and sometimes your thoughts or ways of living will be reflected in the outside world, so please be careful with everything you say, you do. Not only the world is watching also Hashem is.
October 14, 2009 7:34 pm at 7:34 pm in reply to: What Food Item Would You Like To See Get A Hecsher? #895342mazcaMemberwhere I live I wish there where more kosher restaurants,
mazcaMember?????just because it has not been done before? so that makes it right? I dont understand it.If it wasnt done before it is probably not right or necessary.
mazcaMemberlol
mazcaMemberWow this is getting complicated, now we have to poskim in all aspects of tzenius: In different places different customs I guess. What it looks tzenius in one place its not in another, a wig, a dress, a plain stocking, a stocking with a line on the back, a wig with a hat. a long wig, a short wig, a jean skirt, a regular tshirt, a suit, I guess there are different levels.
mazcaMemberyes I am reffering to the book “Allepp City of Scholars” check it out.
I think if the rabbis allow a person to use regular hair wether is yours or not there must be a point, and besides who are we to argue with the authorities.
mazcaMemberI guess your own hair wouldve been better than Indian Hair whe the crisis came up.
mazcaMemberNo my aunt said it was their hair but you should ask your Rabbi. In the allepian book it just says people wore wigs from braided hair.
mazcaMemberWell I felt old from the moment I was born, What do you say to that? I have a cousin with my name younger than me and somehow the used to called me
the big one. Imagine? Then when I was forty and got sick I thought well Why not? I am old already, and now I see how silly I was, I never lie about my age and feel happy about myself now. If twenty is old then are we all there: Besides it is not the age that makes a good marriage it is the person You are getting marry to. My advise do not get marry because you feel old.mazcaMemberwow, I always thoughta that wearing stockings was really a minhag since they say we have to cover our legs under the knee, well I guess we dont know everything, but about covering the hair I went to see my old aunt many years ago, she was born in allepo syria and I asked her what did people do there and she told me that women used to let their hair grow and when they got married they cut their hair and maid braid wigs, I always used to tell everybody the story and people used to look at me skeptical then few weeks ago I was reading the book of the allepian jews, and it is exactly how she told me. So syrian women are allowed to wear wigs not like Rabbi Ovadia Yosef that says hair wigs are not good for sephardim maybe sephardim from other countries like Irak. And by the way of course ther is a concept of tznius no question about it. The concept goes in every aspect of our lives like dressing and behaving and being modest with everything, and not being a show off with cars, homes, jewelery or bragging about our successes in life.
mazcaMembersomehow all my daughter got married, not through shadchanim but through middle people that knew the guy and the girl and set them up, the firstand second one I just ask somebody if they could set them up. The third one one neighbor suggested my daughter to his mother , fourth one he saw her in shul and when I heard he was interested I called his mother, the fifth one his cousin saw my daughter in a restaurant and suggested her to him. the fifth one I really think he saw her in shul or he heard about her I am not sure but he aske one of my son in laws to set her, and BH I got very, very good sons in laws, you see its all from Hashem
mazcaMemberme as a tutor when I was teaching a young bachur english private classes, he was sixteen years old, one time I came into the class and I saw he was text messaging with a girl, he made me promise not to tell his mother, so Inever told his family, but it was with a regular phone not a blackberry in his house.?
mazcaMemberthank you I really thought coconut oil was unhealthy and what about plain coconut I imange is healthy too.
mazcaMemberthanks
mazcaMemberWell NY MOM I totally disagreed with the idea that if a person is divorced would give the wrong advice on the contrary a person that is divorced like myself wants people to be happy and give them the right advice, divorce is not something a person wants sometimes circumstances in life make a person take that decision, I wish I never had to ask for a get and be alone, believe me it is not fun, but at the same time I wish everybody a happy marriage and give advice from my heart so people should never have to go through a divorce, and Hashem should guide all Am Ysrael to the right zibug.
mazcaMembermybat if a person has a blackberry for work and then learns half a day. If that person is seriously in learning would not be text messaging during his learning time and would put it away and not use it during that time.
mazcaMemberI was reading your posts about wearing perfum, and my question is this:
Over Yom Tov I was sitting next to a lady that smell so bad I had to change places.
Is that tzeniut?
