Actually went to a another major local electronic yystore where they had good prices and then went to AJMadison to try to match it. They said the price I got was great but they couldn’t match it but they were helpful and honest. I found AJMadison to have more high end products that were not in my budget, but thanks for the advice.

thanks for your help queen and Ima, especially in regards to the GE problem.

I was going to replace the part, but is was something like $80.00 and I had already replaced this self, maybe less then a year ago, it is a plastic piece that holds the glass shelf and underneath it it holds the 2 crisper draws, and since this fridge is quite a few years old, I was thinking maybe time to replace. I live in Flatbush, so going to Town Appliance in Lakewood is a little far and would like to see it in person, before I purchase something.

I was thinking about an Amana or Frigidaire (again), anyone know of any possible issues with these brands?

Recently, Golden Flow has improved on the milk spoiling. They have been advertising and guaranteeing that the milk will not spoil so quickly as it use too. Since, the improvement, I have noticed it is better and now buy only Golden Flow.

Pride of the Farm doesn’t seem to be sold in Brooklyn. I have only seen it in New Jersey. Can anyone answer why that is so or at least let me know where in Brooklyn can I find Pride of the Farm??

This relative had tried to sell Ambit a few years ago, he got sick and could no longer keep up, stopped the CC charges on the website. A few months ago, he wanted to start over again and had to fork over another $500.00 to start again. This person is a really good salesperson. I have heard the sales pitch and have heard other salespeoples pitch. It is off a script and they all say the same thing, like you’ll be saving tons, when the amount saved is tiny. The only way, someone will make money is to bring other people in who will shell out $400.00 and make you higher in the upline, people who fall for the video showing you the glitz and other worldly pursuits you can get from hawking Ambit. The amount you make from bringing in actual customers is miniscule.

sms007, any time you have to fork over money and then try to get others to do the same is called a pyramid scam. You are depending to on others to have find other salespeople who all have to pay $400.00 to sell. Why can’t Ambit just hire people, and just pay a commission to all the sales people who bring in customers. Please explain why do they have to charge a person money to sell their product? Please explain, why does ambit charge their salespeople to maintain a website for $25.00 and if they stop, they no longer make any money? If that seems right to please explain??!! Please explain where the $500.00 is going??? I have a relative and know people who have tried Ambit and have fallen for the sales tactics and have not made money. Anyway, it’s not like your saving much to switch to an Esco, only save 1%. Maybe if the percentage was greater, then you have something to sell.

ambit is legit?? I am not so sure. I think it is a scam. If you want to sell their product, you have to fork over a few hundred (non-refundable) dollars and then you have to try to get others to fork over a few hundred dollars, and still try to convince people to switch. What kind of company charges their salesmen a fee to work for them?? Then you have to pay a $25.00 monthly fee to maintain a website, if you discontinue that you don’t get anymore residual income. Ambit is a pyramid scam, where you try to bring in a sales force by having them pay a high fee and those have to in turn bring in others. Only the higher ups make something. You only hear about their success. Most sales people fall out of it.

Unfortunately, the government is making it seem like everything is honky dory, which is not the case. The government wants people to shop & spend, hoping that will pick up the econonmy, but people don’t have the money to spend. Those that are debt free, have learned their lesson and think twice or more before that purchase. I don’t want to sound pessimistic, but it is what it is.

The fact that there is less money, is making people desperate. Well we see that crime has gone up, despite what the police dept is saying that crime lower. The past few weeks we have seen shootings which were practically unheard of in Boro Park and Flatbush. Although the NYPD do try their hardest, it is still not enough and they can’t be their so fast or sometimes it just seems like they can’t get there fast enough. The job the shomrim do is commendable. We do need their protection, but they need to be better protected themselves. Maybe, vests and more proper training, like martial arts. Maybe a forum to inform the community of the higher incidence of crime and how to better protect themselves and be viligant at all times. Maybe more cameras to watch the neighborhoods.

All in all, we do need them. Many neighborhoods have neighborhood watches. They do put their lives on the line. This pervert has a gun. C’V, he could have tried to take one of our children. Wouldn’t we do anything to protect our children??? Even if it meant risking our lives to save them?? That is what the Shomrim did. For those who say it was not worth the risk, I say to you, it was, to protect those sweet innocent jewish children.

Most schools are having the same problems and not just Bais Yaacov of Boro Park. Giving parents ultmatums to either pay or not come. They have no choice. Unfortunately, many people are having tremendous difficulties trying to make ends meet. But like Charlie Hall says the Teachers and staff can not work for free. The donors who used to give so generously are also having hard times and can not be relied on as in the past.

we are also looking to get a “new” used car. We’ve been told that even the used cars are expensive now, because people can’t afford to buy new ones and now looking at the used car market. So with the increased demand of used cars, the prices have gone up. All cars require maintence and it can be expensive. The cost of a new transmission can run you a few thousand dollars.

Also, I think American brand cars are also somewhat cheaper to repair then the Japanese brands.

My husband wants to lease because he is thinking that the cost of maintence and repair per year on a used car is more expensive then leasing a car. Good luck on your search.

well, I should include, that I tell my children that if Hashem wants you to have it, then you will have it. Example, I don’t have money for bikes and you know what, Hashem provided for my kids. My friend who is a teacher had a few bikes that were no longer needed and guess what. My kids now have bikes. B’H, I try to teach my children that we should be happy with what we have, because, there are people with less. If parents are there as an example and not complain and say Baruch Hashem for what they do have and give them examples then their children will be much happier and can learn to live with less. It really is a mindset.

My mother was the only child of holocaust survivors and I can say she wasn’t spoiled by her parents. My grandmother was sick most of the time(and therefore unable to take care of her) and my grandfather tried to eke out a living. My grandfather came to this country with a dollar in his pocket. They were not wealthy. My grandparents didn’t have spare money for extras. In fact, my parents got married in a friends apartment. They did not have money for a wedding in a hall. They had some close family and a rabbi.

In turn my parents did not spoil us either. My father had a store that sold a few toys. I rarely got anything from the store. I hardly had any toys or games growing up. Anything I did get, was from winning a prize from Shabbat classes in shul. My parents did not give us allowance. I got paid some money from sometimes working in my dad’s store or earned it babysitting. I don’t believe in giving allowance to my own children. I feel that they need to work for it and realize that the money doesn’t come easy and they will appreciate things more when they earn it, rather then when they are given things. I feel that as long as my children’ basic needs are provided for, like food and clothing, then they don’t need extras.

As some one mentioned the Silly Bandz fad , which are nothing more then glorified rubberbands, I am not getting them for my girls and can’t believe how much people are spending on wearable rubberbands for their kids. In my opinion, they are a waste, and have explained to my kids, they are in fact just plain, silly, rubber bands and you know what?? they understood.

I am the product of a “mixed marriage” and I am very proud of the fact. I get the best of both worlds. I know many other successful marriages like that. I think that it is easier for a girl to adapt to her husbands customs then the other way around. My mom had no problem adjusting. You can have rice on Pesach(if that is the potential groom custom) My father is Sephardic and my mother Askenaze. She adapted quite well. She learned how to cook Sephardic foods. I never grew up eating Askenaze foods, but the funny thing is in my own home, I mix both cuisines up. I will sometimes serve gefillte fish and I’ll have a kugel served alongside a Machsi. As far a candle lighthing, I light how many mother lights. Sephardim usually say the Beracha, then light. Askenazim light then say Beracha. Since my mother is askenaze, I grew up with her lighting that way and our Rav says that if thats how I light, I don’t have to light the Sephardic way. I feel that people can be very adaptable in situations. Best of luck. Give a try!! I tell my children all the time, as long as the person is Jewish and has fine Midot, go for it!!

As a Sephardy, we hold that we don’t do laundry during the week that Tishah B’Av falls in, so this week we are allowed to do laundry. This year we have it easy because, only not allowed to do laundry on Sunday, Monday, and of course Tuesday(Tishah B’Av) in this year. But no meat, shopping for non-essentials, needlework, sewing, during the 9 days.

Yaff80, I posted in another thread, about sephardim NOT listening to music during the 3 weeks. So please don’t generalize that Sephardim listen except the week off Tisha B’Av. I am Sephardic myself and we hold that you may not bathe, swim, laundry, and haircuts during the week in which Tisha B’Av falls. But music is not permitted at all during the 3 weeks, according to Hacham Ovadia Yosef, Shilta.

Also, just wanted to know though which Sephardic Rav you hold by, incase your rav permits.

Chanie, it’s not necessarily to have kids who will become Kohen Gadol’s, but to raise good decent kids. In times like these, don’t you think we could use all the help we can get? I wrote above about a woman who has really wonderful children and she is known to be very careful with covering her hair even in her own home. No one is saying not to show your hair for your husband. There is a time and place for that and is a Mitzvah to be beautiful for him. But when you are home alone, it’s just an awareness that we are before Hashem at all times.

Chanie, I don’t know about you, but covering up my hair does not make it look pretty, underneath. It is constantly in a pony tail and does not look like it use to Pre-sheitel days so to say it’s for my husbands’s enjoyment isn’t correct, trust me, with what it looks like now, I am glad I have to cover it up.

At one of the classes I attend, Rebbetzin mentioned there is a woman who has exceptional children and she is very careful covering her hair, as soon as she washes her hair, she puts on a shower cap. It’s a matter of realizing that we should remember before who we stand at all times. It’s the realization that we are always before Hashem, even in the privacy of ones home.

Also, the “Praying with Fire” books by Rav Heshy Kleinman are also excellent and will help improve your tefillah. He also has a new book called “Yearning with Fire”, about yearning for the Yeshua, very appro for our times.

Just went to double check my book on the 3 weeks and I was correct. Quote from book Halachot and History of the Three weeks “Shaare Rahamim Halachot Series”

1.” Music is forbidden because it leads to joy. No distinction is made between live music at a party or music from a radio or tape, even listened to in private. This ban is upheld by Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef, Shilta, and Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, Zt’l.”

    2. “Group singing should not be engaged (e.g. in camp) but singing to Hashem, i.e. during Prayer, is permitted.”

    3. “One who earns his livelihood in the music field is permitted to work until Rosh Chodesh, Av. However, on the seventeenth of Tammaus and from Rosh Chodesh (including Rosh Chodesh)till Tishah B’Av, he should refrain from doing so.”

It is where cysts grow on the kidneys till they no longer function. People with this disease will eventually need Diaysis and/or Kidney transplant. Being that is the case, are you are saying this person shouldn’t marry, since there is a 50% chance their offspring will have the disease? A woman can definetly influence her husband for bad or good. Like the story of the married couple who divorced. The woman remarried a wicked man and he became good and the man remarried a wicked woman and he became wicked.

Also, I had a story of a couple where the wife grew more spritual then her husband, but she did not force it upon her husband, so she wisely, started playing torah tapes more often, had torah classes in her home, that eventually, her husband became was influenced as well. Hashem give women that spritually “Binah” women’s intution, to wisely help her family to grow. How can a woman feel so low of herself?? Her attitude about her life is important. It can make her feel depressed or it can nourish her and realize the importance of what she is doing.

I have been able to go to Torah classes and most of what I wrote was from attending these classes. They have helped me change my attitude about the importance of Women in the Torah. If you can’t get out, there are so many torah CD’s and websites to listen too. Especially when you are doing housework. While folding laundry, or cooking dinner, you can be listening to a parshah CD. Talk about Multitasking!!

And Wolf, of course changing Diapers and cooking for you family is a chesed for men as well!!

Annie Sez has a website, but just for store locations & coupon promos, but it not available to order online.

Like clearheaded mentioned, JCpenney also has skirts. I remember when I went there, this past fall, they had quite a few style of skirts available, at really great prices. For this spring/summer season, I didn’t see skirts, but there were a few dresses that would look nice with a top underneath. Also reasonably priced.

2 seasons ago, I found a few skirt by Kohl’s, but when I went last week didn’t see any skirts.

Also, if you do find a skirt and it seems a little short check the back of the hem and see if there is extra fabric to let out. Sometimes there is few extra inches which can make a big difference. You can take it to a seamstress to make a “false hem” She’ll take out the seams, bring it down and sew extra fabric behind. I have done it with dresses, too. Last year I found a dress by H & M and it was a little too short to my liking, but there was a good 3 inches of fabric at the hem so I had the seamstress bring it down and I bought extra black ruffled fabric for her to add to the hem. It looks very nice.

Women are on a higher Spritual level then Men. As the caretaker of the home, she is the one who sets the tone in her house, by allowing to run things smoothly. She is in charge of the Kashrus and ensures Kedushat Yisrael. She has the opportunity to do so much Chesed by caring for her family and friends. Why should changing diapers and cooking feel like burden. It is a wonderful opportunity to grow!! Feeding your family and ensuring they have healthy and nutrious meals so they can grow to serve Hashem, how fortunate. Women are in charge of many important aspects of life. A woman who does what she is suppose to do and realizes all the blessing that she receives from Hashem by following the Torah and keeping it’s mitzvot, is guaranteed to feel fulfilled and accomplished.

I also shop in Annie Sez. I have been pretty successful there. When ever I compliment my friends on their clothing, they inevitabliy mention they got it from Annie Sez. The one near me, even caters to the frum crowd by keeping the longer skirts with a sign over them saying “conservative wear” The store has a few locations in the tri-state area offering many brand names at really great prices. The stores are usually pretty clean and organized(my local one is, anyway) Also if you type annie sez coupon, you can print out a 20% off coupon on your purchase and sign up for their emails and you can receive coupon offers. Also, I love their return policy. If it’s not marked down, you have a month to return it and if it is marked down, you have 2 weeks. I like to have some time to return.

Foxes also has great priced clothing, though I find it harder to shop in because the clothes are less organized. The shoe section is great. They have quite a few stores(NY locations are in Brooklyn and Mineola.) They also have locations in Ilinois and Florida. Just wanted to know from anyone who lives in those states how do they find shopping in their local Foxes.
