This has a large amount of bitachon involved here. Someone who is doing his histadlus and working hard and still has a hard time making a parnassa. I was just reading a story to my kids that I had found very relavent to this topic. It in a treasury of sephardic bedtime stories by Shmuel Blitz and Rabbi David Suttton. This story illustrates so well of our need for Bitachon in Hakodesh B’Hu.Rabbi Yaakob Ades told it to his son Yehudah. Once there was a man named Moussa who worked very hard digging ditches. Every day while at work, he say a shephered bring his sheep to graze nearby, and he noticed everyday that one lamb who wander alone and never came back. He wondered what happened to the lambs and decided to follow one. He followed one and it went deeper into the forest. The lamb walked toward’s a cave and then entered. Inside was a sickly old bear who could hardly move. The lamb walked up to the bear and became his meal. Moussa realized that Hashem wanted this bear to stay alive and everyday He sent a lamb to the bear. All day Moussa thought about this that if Hashem could take care of this bear and keep it well fed, surely, If I fully trust in Hashem, He will also take care of me.

The next day, he decided to go the bet midrash and study Torah the whole day. He came home with no money and explained what happen with the bear. His wife thought he was crazy and took him to see the rabbi the next morninig. He remained calm and said

He who takes care of and feeds the bear will also take care of us. The wife told the rabbi and the rabbi tried to reason with him. Seeing he could not succeed with him, he told the wife to sell all her husbands tool’s to feed the family. So she went to a local arab and sold the tool’s and even the trusted donkey that used to bring Moussa back and forth to work.

The Arab took the donkey with him to the forest. While walking, he saw something hidden next to a tree. He found a chest of gold.

On his way home, he was killed when branch fell on his head killing him instantly. The donkey knowing only one way to go home, returned to his old master with the tresure on it’s back. When Moussa and his wife, found the treasure, Moussa said do you not see, He who takes care of and feeds the bear can also take care of us.

Okay, so everyone is taking about on this thread on being able to earn a living. but what it all comes down to in the end is if someone has faith in Hashem. Right now the economy is crumbling and I truly believe it will not recover. Hashem is trying to show us that basically NOTHING is secure anymore in this life accept our FAITH in Hashem. He wants us to trust him.

I don’t think any stores in flatbush or anywhere in Brooklyn for that matter, do double coupons (a most unfortunate thing). Coupons are usually available in the Sunday papers. You can also try calling or emailing companies to send coupons on products you frequently use. They usually are more then happy to send to customers.

I know it would be a shame to split up the sets, that’s why I wanted to know if anyone knew of a Gemach in the Brooklyn area, specifically for Twin clothing. I thought I saw somewhere a few years back, of a place that collected twin’s clothing to send to Israel. I haven’t seen the ad in years. If anyone might remember the organazation or a Telephone #, it would help. I already tried Mothers of Multiples/ Agudah Women, but they only have a gemach for twin baby furniture.

In our family, we don’t give any gifts. Not even Chanukah gelt. I just buy chocolate coins and donuts and fry some Latkes, while the kids play with dreidels. Even as a kid, my parents never gave Chanukah presents. I never understood why people gave presents every single night of Chanukah and if they did, I heard mostly people that weren’t so frum gave every single night. I just feel that buying gifts seems so goyishe.

lakewood house wife, sounds good, you can also use the black beans as a substitute for the ground meat and use all the other filling as you suggested and keep it parve, by using tofutti sour cream.

So no one has ever seen your feet, so nu, tell me do they look like a chickens’ feet?? I understand that and I won’t argue with you. I don’t mean to lessen what Stalin or Hadrian did or any other Rasha, I was just saying that the fact that he in particular never took off his shoes, seems rather strange. Shadim do exist and it could be possible that he was. Anything is possible. It is does make for quite an intresting story though.

I have 2 cd’s from Yitzchak Simcha, for some reason no one I know has heard of him, but I love those 2 CD’s(My kids are sick of them). And Dveykus, oh my goodness, that’s old, (probably a classic and should be a staple in your music collection) I know I bought one casette when I first got married 17 years ago, but they are very nice old melodies and relaxing, not rocky at all. Me ya’la behar Hashem, uhh Mi Yakom B’makom Kodesho, La La La,… I am thinking about that song write now, beautiful,(sigh) just beautiful. I think I may need to find some Dveykus CD’s.

How about Tacos with guacamole and a salad. Since meat is getting scarce,(just went shopping) try ground chicken or turkey, just saute a chopped onion, add the ground meat, and the taco seasoning. Another idea is make your own falafel sandwich night. I place lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, cucumbers, tehina, saurkraut, and falafal balls and pita bread on their own plates and self serve. I agree as to not making a meat meal on Thursday, so close to Shabbos. And noitallmr, Chulent on thursday night, is not the same as Chulent for Shabbos lunch.

This thread was about shoes. How in the world did we get in to a discussion on Unions?? I know, blame Walmart!!!! LOL. Okay, so back to the topic of shoes, like I mentioned in earlier posts, there are TONS and I mean TONS of shoe stores on Kingshwy in Brooklyn between the streets of East 9th street and East 15th street. I forgot to mention a few more in that area. Shoe Warehouse, Sandal Rouge, Beverly Boutique has a shoe Department. Zena shoe’s (also has children’s shoes) There is also a Payless and a Fabco(right next to a Steve Madden, yeah 3 shoe stores in a row) So come into Brooklyn for the day and park someplace close with no meter and walk a few blocks or take the B express(doesn’t run on weekends)or the Q local to the Kings Highway station. I suggest try praying that you should be Matzliach and find something reasonable and nice, with Hashem’s help. With stores in the area in all price ranges, you should be able to find something.

Maybe make him a mug (Snapfish.com is where you could get one and type in winter08 for 20% off) with pictures of you and him together or the family. Or make a framed collage for his office. Good Luck!!

No oomis, Chalila, of course you didn’t attack. When I wrote that, I meant to say that these are things that some chachomim hold by. I wouldn’t go over and tell a person in their face that a Sheitel is from Gehinom. I don’t believe in embarassing anyone. I do love every jew and when I daven, especially, now, in these unprecedented times,I daven to Hashem that He does not harm not one single Jew, no matter on what level they are.

I don’t know you and you don’t know me. I think we’re having a reasonable discussion. I was merely giving examples of how some Rabonim feel on the issue. But I think “JUST ME” may have thought I wrote that, because, she says she wishes people would stop insulting others who have a different rav. So for Just Me, if you thought I insulted you, I am sorry. Also, sorry for putting up some long posts that I should write for a Magazine. This might bother the editor though :), Sorry YWN Editor, I get one thought and then run with it and then it is hard to stop writing.

Also, try Shoebuy.com (free shipping and return shipping) and overstock.com has shoes alot cheaper then other shoe websites- their shipping is $2.95, but there is no free return shipping.

On Kings Highway Between East 9th street and East 14th street,in Brooklyn, Like I said there are TONS of shoe stores. there is a Nine West Outlet, Tsakris Malis,Chuckie’s(VERY expensive, I don’t walk in there though but I put it in to show how many stores there are in a 5 block radius) ShoeLaces, Shoe Box, Enyzme Shoe Lab, Foxes, david z., Steve Madden, and another one I don’t know the name of and there is an Annie Sez (BTW) you can go on their website and print out a 20% coupon. Hope this was helpful.

If you do buy anything, just let us know what store helped you find what you were looking for.

To just me: like I wrote at the end of the posts, these are what those Rabbi’s has to say on the issue. I didn’t say sheitels are from Gehenom and as far as Mrs.Zahava Braunstein A’H, is concerned, I don’t think she would ever wear some of those extremely long sheitels that are on the heads of some people. I think she were a nice shoulder length model if I am not mistaken. And if you read prior posts, I had written then if the Rabonim that did give permission for the wearing of wigs way back when, If they had any idea of what the wigs out there look like nowadays, they would not permit them nowadays. Wig wearing has gained tremoundous popularity and the fact that some of these wigs can cost in the thousands so women can look like they are NOT wearing a wig, (why else would they spend so much on a wig is only because they don’t want to look like they are wearing one and please be honest with yourself about that) something there is just not quite kosher. Modesty can also mean on how much one spends on clothing (wigs included). Since you have family in the wig business, course these posts will offend you. Just because Hashem gave the person money, it doesn’t mean they have to blow it away. Can someone please really justify to me spending thousands on a wig, and what are your reasons??

Now don’t attack me about my above posts, these are WORDS OF CHACHAMIM and NOT my own. I didn’t say them. I am pointing out how some of the Rabonim, past and present, feel about this issue.

The New York Times did a story in 1997, on the decadence of the wig culture. They included an interview with a famous wig maker, who said “I had a dream to manufacture a beautiful wig for the jewish community, I had a dream when you walked down the street, you wouldn’t be able to say, this young woman is wearing a wig”.

Hagaon HaTzadik, Sholom Shvadron ZT’l tells of a true story that happened to him. He wished it were not true. @5 years ago, a girl came to his house to speak to his wife for 4 hours.

while he was sitting and learning, he thought someone that is speaking for 4 hours must need a drink. He told his wife, that “maybe you should give her something to drink and eat?” The girl heard him and said it was not neccessary, thatshe was going home to eat and drink at her home. When she said that, he realized that is girl was married and has a husband. So why does she look like a girl?? Do you think it is funny?? it is not funny, they want to look like unattached women. This wanting is treife, unfit, unkosher.

He goes on to say that, in regards to the sotah, “And let him uncover the head of the woman” A woman that is unfaithful to her husband is disgraced. They disgrace her by removing her hair covering and now women want to look like a Sotah??!! She wants to look like a girl that is unmarried and unavailable? A woman that wears a wig, it’s as if she in not covering her hair?? A woman who wears a wig has no holiness. Who gave permission for women to wear wigs?? To wear a wig that looks better than her own hair and doesn’t even look like a wig?? 24 Poskei Hador in Israel prohibt the wearing of wigs. His grandfather ruled that Divrei Torah or even a blessing can not be said in front of women who wear wigs. The only way to say Divrei Torah or say a blessing in such a situation is if someone dloses his eyes.

Women with wigs, who light candles friday night, that make request for help from Hashem, Oy Gevald, she is praying to Hashem. A person who does not listen to Torah Scholars, his prayers are considered an abomation. Hashem will not listen to these prayers. In this black epidemic R’L, who knows what punishment is knocking on our doors!! Hashem have mercy on us!!

Note: these are words from tzadikim, if you have an issue, speak to your Rav about how he feels about wigs.

The Posak Hador, Rabbi Shmuel HaLevy Vosner, Shilta, says what benefit is a mezuzah, if the impurity enters the jewish home. A Wig’s Origin is from “Tachtit Sheol(lowest Hell). We are witnesses that we want to be Bnei Torah and want to enjoy the modern world at the same time. Women need to be modest in the upmost modest way, but unfortunately,in many jewish homes, many jewish women have turned the Halacha into a perfomance, and jewish married women do not look jewish. They do not even look like married women. They look like actresses from the streets, they do not look like holy women. Chazal say “Sa’are B’Isha Erva” Hair on a woman is forbidden. What a forgery it is to cover hair with hair. The wig is more stimulaiting then the nautral hair. What a forgery!!

Whether women who wear wigs, know or don’t know that they are forbidden, they are sinners that cause other people to sin. They cause their neighborhood and communites to transgress serious torah prohibtion, V’Lo Tatiro Acrei La’Vav’Chem, V’Acrei, Einecham. Not to follow after your heart and not to follow after your eyes.

Why Am yisrael is suffering so much illness and lack of livelihood, orphans R’L.

Rabbi Ovadya Yosef shilta, has said, regarding wigs, 200 years ago,Rabbi Pinchas Levy Horwitz ZTL, took out a sefer torah, and with 2 talmadei chachmain dayanim.,placed a complete Cherem, on any woman that wears a wig in public. He said on the Sefer Torah, that any woman who wears a wig, will receive the highest ecclesiastical censure.

The reason a wig is prohibted is because it is immodest, doesn’t matter wear it comes from, it remains immodest.

The Vilna Gaon, Chasam Sofer,Rabbi Avraham Palaggi, ZT’L and various other Gaonim prohibted women from wearing wigs.

The Gaon Vosner, Shilta, in his sefer, wrote that any form of wearing a wig is prohibted. Every woman that wished to have sons to be tzadikkim, should remain modest. The biggest problem nowadays is that women think it is allowed and deny the Tzadik’s cherem. Those that make fun of women who are modest and wear kerchiefs, their sin is very great, woe to them.

If a woman want to wear a kerchief and her husband does not let her, he is considered a wicked man, someone that causes other to sin. His Torah is invalid, All his deeds are corrupt.

If we don’t believe our Rabonimm and Poskim that wigs are Prohibted, who are we going to believe?

Kol HaKavod to you!! I agree some girls and woman dress shlumpy. I think some just don’t have that gift to be able to put things together or just don’t even realize it(how they are dressed). Modesty INCLUDES speech as well. I know that and I am glad that you are discussing modesty of speech.. Stop bashing Men. Hashem placed a that feeling so that children will be born, because it is needed in the world. Being that is the case a if a woman is not careful and another man thinks about her, she will be responbile. Please don’t even compare the horrible crime of rape. Surely, little children whom this crime has happened to did not ask or do anything to deserve such a thing. The man has to try himself, not to look. YOU are not a man, you have no idea at all how a man thinks. You don’t know how hard it is for them not to look. YOU, as a MARRIED frum woman, must do all possible not to give another man any reason to even look at you. I am not saying wear a bag over you head. You know very well as an married adult woman, what a man is attracted to. Don’t accenuate your attractions out in public. I am not a man either. I heard a story of a Rebettizin, she asked her friend if she was available to get a ride with her to a wedding. The rebetzin was not sure if she was going, but she just wanted to make sure, she had a way to get there. The Rebetzin called her friend to say she could not make it. Her friend decided to ask the Rebetzin before she left if she changed her mind. When the Rebitzin, answered the door, she was dressed nicely and her face made up. The friend thought she had changed her mind and said, “oh so you are coming”? But the Rebitizin said, no, she was staying home, because her husband was home. Ladies, Hashem gave us mirrors, makeup, perfume, and attractive clothing for only one reason and one reason only. For your Husbands.

So, since you don’t live in Monsey, Brooklyn, or Lakewood, do you live in Passaic??

Halavai your words were written so nicely put and so beautifully.

small town girl, you are contradicting yourself when you say you don’t wear a wig for Hashem or to bring Moshiach, but for yourself because it is a mitzvah. That means you are doing it for Hashem, because He is the the one who gave you that mitzvah in the first place. If He didn’t command it, you wouldn’t do it. I read somewhere of a dream a woman had and they told her in her dream that Moshiach was being held back because women wear wigs and even though some Rabonimm gave the okay, a woman will still be responible, even though she davened and was a perfect tzadakess. I have given that website in a previous post. I had written another post with then name of that story, but it was edited by YWN. Also, you say you are doing it because of the mitzvah, the whole point of the Torah is to come to the realization of Moshiach and that Hashem is the true creator of the world. To fear Hashem is the ultimate thing. It seems you care more about what others think of you in how you dress, then what Hashem really wants from us. If something like this is holding back the Moshiach, then I say Rabonnim, bring on that takanah!! Don’t you want Moshiach? All the problems the whole world is going through, we have a chance to resolve it peacefully and do teshuvah. That window to do teshuva before Moshaiach comes will be very small. The economy has not even hit rockbottom yet. Hashem is showing us that nothing in this world is stable except for the belief in Hashem. I guess I am very worried about the world situation and I DO want to help bring Moshaich easily. I am praying that Hashem should not harm not even one Jew, religous or not. And that we all unite and come to do teshuva together while it is still peacefull and not while we are forced to do teshuva

Also, I read somewhere, that women started wearing wigs 60 years ago, because they were prohibted from wearing hats. Those wigs did not look anything we have nowadays. I don’t think that if those Rabonnim that gave permission back then on wigs, if they saw the wigs some Jewish women wear today, for sure they would forbid it. Like a said the Yetzer Hara came in and messed us up. And the fact that some women are saying that there own hair is ugly and of course would want to cover it up with an attractive wig.

Oomiss, why do you think dressing completely be’tzinus = being dowdy. Who has told you, that you have to look ugly out in public?? Who said single girls have to look dowdy, unless you think a skirt below the knees and a covering neckline and sleeves to the wrists is dowdy. Do you wear straight skirts that barely cover the knees that when you sit the skirt rides up?? When I go shopping for skirts, I take the sitting challange. If they show my knees, they go back to the rack. If I have to keep pulling the skirt down because it rides up, it goes back on the rack. Or do you check that your elbow sleeves doesn’t reveal the above the elbows as you reach for something. I have very stylish friends who only wear scarves, They wears Coach scarves,Channel & Gucci. I have seen many other women dress completely b’tzinus and look fine. They wear their beautiful scarves so tastefully, it looks like a crown on their heads. About the work force, I am not critizing them, They work very hard. I gave an example. But they and you have to realize who we are dressing for. Hashem, the King of all Kings!!! Not our bosses, not for a wedding or party. We are Daughters of the King. We are responible to dress modestly AND look nice, as long as it is the guidelines of tzinus. When someone dresses nicely AND b’tzinus, it is a Kiddush Hashem. When someone dresses like a shlump,it is not a kiddush Hashem. It IS possible to dress sharp and do it modestly.

I learned in a class that a man has his torah learning to earn Olam Habah, but then what of a woman who is not obligated to learn torah, how does she earn Olam Habah, what is her equlivant to torah learning?? It is to dress modestly. (also encouraging her husband and sons to go learn)

All I am saying is I think that because we were redeemed from Miztrayim because of the Tzyinus of women, and we’re still waiting for him.

I have a feeling this topic is going to be a really long thread because it is such a sensitive issue among jewish women. It is really a hard thing for women to give up, but if is going to bring Moshiach easier, then why not do it. I think some women do wear a sheitel because they want to blend in a little more and not be seen as so obviously jewish. Really, be honest with yourselves about this. If your Rav issued a takanah tomorrow, that wigs are not really tzinus and are therefore no longer acceptable, would you be willing to go along with it?? Let’s say there was a working woman with a major meeting that day?? What would you do?? Who are we covering our hair for??? Hashem of course!! You see that is the problem with people. We fear others more, we fear what other people may think of us, we fear the economy collapsing, we fear illnesses, but we don’t have a fear of Hashem, or His messenger, the Rabbonim. Hashem purposely, took away that fear of Him, so we would be able to have bechirah, free will. The goal in life is to try to regain it and put our bitachon in Hashem.

I found a website that has it. It is called “dreaming of moshiach”. It was posted on Tuesday, Nov 4, how scary, Election day. A definte signifigance. When Obama slogan of “Change”, Hashem was sending a direct message to all yidden to change. When we do, we won’t have to worry about Obama,or Iran, or anybody. Who are we in this world to appease. Do you actually, think Hashem thinks that a gorgeous wig is the proper thing to do. The Yetzer Haroh has found a way to make it seem “kosher” for beautiful undetacable wigs. He really has brainwashed us hasn’t he?? Just like a pig has one kosher sign of split hooves, he rolls in the mud with his feet sticking out for all to see “but look I’am kosher” “I have split hooves”” “but look at me, I am kosher my hair is covered with a stunning wig, that a goyish man can’t even tell it is a wig.. but my hair is covered”

The Rav says that these women look like paris fashion models. Really, I have seen some names of these wigs, named after “famous hairstyles” Do you really want to emulate these beings?? Does Hollywood have to dictate the styles on even wigs. I think something is very wrong if we are. Part of being modest is not to be noticed.

    OOMIS

No one says you have to wear a rag on your head. There are some very nice scarves and head coverings out there. And as far as eye catching scarves, I remember my husband commenting on a the color of head scarf, (a bright orange color seen from all the way down the block.) that it was too bright and noticeable. A woman can look attractive, not attracting. Some of these long sheitels are just not not right and they are very attracting. If they(the wig) make another man look at her and think in imodest thought, then she is at fault. Also, the wigs from 50% ago looked like straw. You could tell they were wigs. You know where a woman is suppose to look attractive?? in her home for her husband only!!! Our wonderful mothers ,before we were redeemed from Mitzrayim, that used their coopper mirrors to beautify themselves for their husbands only, not the Egyptian man walking down the street. Do you think they wore wigs?? Do you think that their husbands thought they were less beautiful because they wore a head covering. Because of those same women, we were redeemed from Mitzrayim and Hashem accepted their gift to the Mishkan, because it was used for a holy deed.

One thing about the moslem women on how they cover themselves L’havdil no matter what, their sin, this is surely is a zechus for Yismahael. I think we really need to be even more vigilant in our standard of Tzinyus. I am sure the Rav knows alot more as needs to be done to bring our own geula quickly. My dear sisters it is time once again to rise against the Yetzer Hara and not give in. He is a very cunning being. Surely, our return to even higher standard of Tzinyus will be a zechus for Klal Yisrael. We had the back power than and we have to power to do it again!!
