I’m saying that Moses Mendelsohn was not reform.

But Mendelsohn was frum. By today’s standards, he would be (at the very least) MO. His most radical idea was that Jews should be accepted by the outside world, and that Jews should be fluent in German. Today, there is no Ghetto and we speak English. Which is pretty much what Mendelsohn advocated.

His kids didn’t turn out great. But that doesn’t say anything about his level of frumkeit.

Rabbi Shneyer Leiman has an article in Tradition disproving that story of the Chasam Sofer.

I think we are confusing two things, the definition of ????? and being a decent human being. I don’t see the two as being mutually exclusive. For instance, If someone removes a feeding tube because they think they are alleviating the suffering of a patent, they might have committed ?????, but they still might be a fine person.

So I do think that most people who are OTD are otherwise decent human beings.

Nisht, while many YCT people might be wrong, I would not say that any of them are “evil nasty people”. That’s a pretty terrible thing to say.

And by your indication, most of people alive today are murderers.

We heard you, it’s just that you dodged the question by writing about shirts and pants, instead of discussing the issues of women dancing on Simchas Torah.

No I didn’t. There is no comparison between Hawaiian shirts with yellow polka dot pants and dancing in Judaism.

Except that there is no tradition of wearing Hawaiian shirts with yellow polka dot pants to celebrate events in Judaism.

Just because in the past women haven’t danced on Simchas Torah, it doesn’t mean that they can’t. There is absolutely nothing wrong with women celebrating the Torah by dancing. Even if they can’t hold a sefer torah.

Joseph, there is a different between going to a concert and Simchas Torah. By the concert, people go because they want to. If they want to do something that is more hands on, they can. Hakafos on the other hand is an institutionalized practice that occurs in every shul. There is no plan B for women who want to celebrate the Torah in a way that they are not only spectators.

postSem, while I have never been married and have never attended such classes, I believe that if two people are mature enough to marry, they can learn these halachos together.

I don’t see why this is an issue of tznius. Sure, it’s a sensitive topic, but the whole idea of marrying someone is a sensitive topic. If two people are going to live together, certainly they can learn together!

Not to get into a debate, but when you are motzi shem ra on entire community of frum, Torah observent Jews, you have “crossed the line”.

Whatever good frumteens might have done, it is far outweighed by its krum and hateful hashkafa. The only time I ever had a thought of going OTD (B’H it was only a thought) was after becoming involved with that website.

    Rabbi Aldestein on frumteens:

“I find Frumteens hashkafic pronouncements odious and repugnant. When I interviewed the mysterious Moderator, I told him that I would have to point out in print that our readers myself included reject his views. I made good on that promise.

The mistake which people made (for which I have to take some responsibility) is seeing the article as some sort of endorsement of the Frumteens site, or of Mr. Frumteens. I thought I had made it abundantly clear that the site was valuable in giving parents a glimpse into the world of troubled teens. I continue to believe that many parents are in denial about what is happening in our community, and that hearing first person accounts might give some of them a jump-start into getting more involved. I have no reason to doubt that Frumteens provides a rare window into a little-understood world.

The review did not recommend Frumteens as a place that kids should go. (It really couldnt. The readership of Jewish Action is overwhelmingly Modern Orthodox; Frumteens is geared almost exclusively to the right.) It did explain how the site attempts to help kids, and by the accounts that several of the people in the Jewish Action heard, Frumteens does do much good. I dont see why that should be taken away from it, even if other parts of the same site spew the most contemptible venom.”
