Matan1Participant
lakewhut, what about gay marriage?
Matan1ParticipantDaasYochid, what exactly makes triangle k not reliable? Is it the issue of glatt?
Matan1Participant“With only men voting weβd have had Republicans in charge of both the presidency and Congress for many consecutive decades by now.”
So if a woman would vote Republican, can she get special permission to vote? Or maybe we should just ban Democrats, and have politicians appointed by a special board of thought police?
Matan1Participant“Rav Avraham Kook as well as Rav Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld as well as all the Gedolim were opposed to granting women suffrage.”
All the Gedolim, wow. Joe, if everyone was in agreement, why single out a Religious Zionist like Rav Kook? Seems like an odd choice for you.
Matan1ParticipantProbably because people care more about looks than learning.

Which is why I always tell my date about my conditions and the meds I take. I don’t need a shatchan to tell her that; I’m an adult, and mature enough to tel my date that.
December 30, 2017 10:00 pm at 10:00 pm in reply to: Keeping Mental Illness A Secret In Shidduchimπ€ π€π€π°π€΅ #1439574Matan1ParticipantFerd : “This is a major issue. I know a girl that married a guy only to find out two years in that he is on tons of meds. What a disaster”.
What is so terrible about someone taking medication? I take several myself, for different mental illnesses. They enable me to be successful in my career and family life, and I have been on 4th or 5th dates where I mentioned that do take meds. B’H all the women on those dates were vey understandable and supportive.
There is no need to hide the fact that so many of us in the Orthodox community take medication for mental illnesses.December 24, 2017 11:05 pm at 11:05 pm in reply to: The Chofetz Chaim’s Best Friend — How not to be friends or a spouse #1435663Matan1ParticipantJoseph, you say the issue is not about having friends. But you quote* Rav Miller saying “A chaver means somebody who helps you in your business”. That doesn’t sound like a chaver. That sounds like an accountant.
*Please don’t respond by saying something like “I was just citing a source”. I want to know what you think.
December 24, 2017 12:23 am at 12:23 am in reply to: The Chofetz Chaim’s Best Friend — How not to be friends or a spouse #1434264Matan1ParticipantThen what is your interpretation of this quote?
December 23, 2017 10:39 pm at 10:39 pm in reply to: The Chofetz Chaim’s Best Friend — How not to be friends or a spouse #1434239Matan1ParticipantI am asking you how to interpret this quote from Rav Miller.
December 23, 2017 8:21 pm at 8:21 pm in reply to: The Chofetz Chaim’s Best Friend — How not to be friends or a spouse #1434200Matan1ParticipantAre you saying Rav Miller, as cited by the Chofetz Chaim, believes that one shouldn’t have friends?
December 23, 2017 6:27 pm at 6:27 pm in reply to: The Chofetz Chaim’s Best Friend — How not to be friends or a spouse #1434130Matan1ParticipantAre you saying one shouldn’t have friends?
October 8, 2017 8:26 pm at 8:26 pm in reply to: The likelihood of raising a half black child as yeshivish #1379165Matan1ParticipantLeib, Judaism isn’t about bloodlines. It’s about Torah and Mitzvos. The best thing you could want for your sons is to marry girls who are dedicated to the Jewish way of life.
Also, why are Ashkenazim a first choice far and away?
Matan1ParticipantNaziism was not socialist. The name is drawn from party members in the 20’s who were socialist. Nazi ideology went though many changes, especially in the 20’s, when there were left wing party members who advocated a socialist Germany, like the Strasser brothers. But those sides lost out.
July 5, 2017 8:47 pm at 8:47 pm in reply to: Requesting information about frumteens and R’ Yaakov Shapiro (hear me out mods!) #1311521Matan1ParticipantJoseph, I’m sure Rabbi Adlerstein is grateful for you explaining his views to him.
Matan1ParticipantSo don’t play in the heat.
Matan1Participant1) I don’t think high school students should be playing football.
2) Require everyone to have a heart examination before playing.Matan1ParticipantOne more time, you can prevent sport injuries with proper precautions. And the worst injuries are not as bad as anaphylaxis. Heart conditions can be tested for.
Matan1ParticipantHealth, are you honestly saying that the wants of a picky eater come before the needs of those allergic?
Matan1ParticipantAs DY said, I’m worried about the physical and emotional health of these children. I’m not worried about the child feeling inconvenienced. I fear for his self esteem. Eating lunch alone, or even getting to pick two friends to eat with, can have detrimental effect.
Matan1ParticipantSo you have no problem having a kid eat his lunch by himself, while his friends and classmates get to eat together? Do you think that’s good for that child?
Matan1ParticipantThere are preventative measures to make sports safe. Batting helmets, shin guards…
There are preventative measures to make allergens safe. Banning them
Matan1ParticipantThis whole thread is confusing. On one side we have the risk of anaphylaxis, which leads me to side with those who want a peanut ban. On the other side we have…. what do we have? No one here has made a reasonable argument why they should be allowed despite the risks.
Matan1ParticipantWhat other options have worked?
Matan1ParticipantHealth, you agree with me that regarding sports every precaution should be taken. If those safety measures are in place, we have no need to ban sports (not referring to contact football).
With allergies, talking every precaution requires the school to prohibit peanuts. There is no other alternative that I’m aware of.
Matan1ParticipantOr they could add throat guards to all players. Besides, that was a fluke accident. There has only been one professional baseball player to die from being hit by a pitch, in 1920.
Matan1ParticipantWhen did I manipulate anything? You cited an article about football, and I responded by asking how many yeshiva students play tackle football.
You brought football into this conversation, and I responded. No manipulation.
Matan1ParticipantThat’s why there are throat guards to protect these injuries. .
Matan1Participantknow of any?
Matan1ParticipantHow many yeshivos do you know where kids are playing tackle football?
Matan1ParticipantInjuries, sure, but death? Sports related deaths are preventable with proper screening and rules.
Matan1ParticipantBut have time to troll…
Matan1ParticipantOr you could test for heart conditions before playing. Another good way to find out.
Matan1ParticipantI am. What is inherently dangerous about sports?
Matan1ParticipantSports aren’t an inherently dangerous activity. Exposing someone with a peanut allergy to a peanut is.
Matan1ParticipantWell, I think if you explained your reasoning it could help us understand your argument.
Matan1ParticipantSyag, it would help if you could explain your reasoning.
Matan1ParticipantJoseph, there is no gay club in YU. The meeting you refer to was to support those struggling with these desires, not promoting any behavior.
Listen to R’ Lamm’s shiur in full, not just that soundbite.
Matan1ParticipantJoseph, what chilull Hashem in YU are you talking about?
Matan1ParticipantThe proof is that no connection has been found.
Matan1ParticipantSpeaking as a graduate level Psychology student and soon to be therapist, I think you should give the get as soon as you can and start therapy for your PTSD. If your diagnosis is like you say it is, you must be in a great deal of pain. What you need is someone who can support you. It doesn’t seem like your wife is that person.
Even if you don’t give the get, you must seek help for yourself. There are several therapies that are effective in PTSD patients. Do yourself a favor and find a therapist to work with.
Matan1ParticipantNothing about the Rambam in the introduction.
Matan1ParticipantWhere in R’ David’s sefer does he say that?
Matan1ParticipantIn your statement, you say that Sephardim, Breslovers, Lubavitch and Telzers follow their own minhagim and rabbeim, while chareidim don’t. This implies that the former groups are not chareidim.
Matan1ParticipantI mentioned sfardim, but my question applies to all the groups you mentioned.
Matan1ParticipantJoseph wrote “Sephardim, Breslovers, Lubavitch and Telzers are kehilos that each have unique minhagim and/or rabbonim”, implying that sephardim are not chareidim.
Matan1ParticipantSo Sfardim can’t be chareidi?
Matan1Participant“Yet all the experts say that the incidence has increased greatly.”
Correlation is not causation.
Matan1ParticipantWhat about the way Yaakov met Rachel? Perhaps we should emulate that.
Matan1ParticipantNothing to do with a lower level or having more heteirim. You assume that we can learn the halachos of having children from the halachos of honoring one’s parents. Do you have a source for this?
