In response to @ubiquitin and @BY1212:
Blaming US foreign policy for Russian actions does not necessarily mean Russia’s actions are justified. So it can be simultaneously true that the expansion of NATO eastward provoked Russia but just because one is provoked does not justify the invasion of a sovereign nation.
MarxistParticipantcoffee addict- He rejoined the Paris Climate Agreement.
MarxistParticipantI think it’s also important to point out that even at the beginning of Zionism there were differences amongst the leaders as to what the movement entailed. Achad Ha’am is different from Herzl, for example. And Ben-Gurion was different than Begin in later times. It’s not always best to group them all under the label “Zionists” without explaining what exactly is meant.
MarxistParticipant“Sanders is not and has never been a Democrat.”
While that is technically true, it is misleading. He ran to be the Democratic nominee for President in both 2016 and 2020. He caucuses with Democrats in Congress and is generally viewed as the main figure of the left-wing faction of the party.
MarxistParticipantThere is a difference between stating that some Gedolei Yisrael told Jews to stay in Europe and laying the blame for the death of Yidden at their feet.
MarxistParticipant@Syag Lchochma:
As I said, I was only speaking from my experience with anti-maskers. Many of the ones I know mocked me and others for wearing a mask and some of them had this childish joy of bucking authority. I was not attributing that attitude to you.
MarxistParticipant” that it isn’t about defiance, and that your opinion may not be the only one out there”
I can only speak from my experience but from the people I know who resisted masking it seemed to be just an adolescent attitude to authority. Most of the mainstream medical advice has been to mask up. I know there were some dissidents but I would like to ask you can you name a mainstream medical or health organization that argues that masks don’t provide any benefit to stopping the spread of COVID?
MarxistParticipant“would you rather simply be alive or really live your life?”
My life didn’t really decrease in enjoyment when I wore a mask when venturing out. Honestly, this whole hatred of masks thing is something I never really understood. What is the big deal of putting on a mask when going into crowded spaces? Are people really so childish that they need to resist any direction from authority figures and experts?

There is not necessarily a contradiction between with what Rav Yisrael Chaim Kaplan reports and what Rabbi Reisman and other talmidim report. Rav Yaakov could have been extremely relieved and happy with Israel’s victory at the moment but on later reflection conclude that there was no outright nissim. His views towards the Medinah were probably quite nuanced and hard to fit into a neatly defined box.February 1, 2022 4:09 pm at 4:09 pm in reply to: Re forced draft on Haredim passed by Seculars (& Arabs) #2056740MarxistParticipant@akuperma: From what I’ve seen, it seems like this draft law is not going to work with forced conscription like that. Rather, I think that there will be a quota imposed on the Chareidi community with government funding to Yeshivas reduced if it’s not met. It also lowers the age of exemption. It seems to focus much more on the economic aspect of this problem and more about trying to push Chareidim into the workforce than in the army necessarily.

Rule #1 of history: Myths and legends grow over time and through generations. Gosh, in this thread alone you gave us an example: the claim that Israel’s victory in the Six-Day War was unexpected and close to miraculous which you argue (using research or quoting others’ research) is a myth.

While it does have many good references, the author’s blatant bias is apparent on every page and the neutral balancing of sources is not displayed.
